Today, I was chatting away in General Chat whilst running some rifts and a fellow Barbarian was lamenting (see what I did there) his lack of Ramaladni’s Gifts. So, I offered to group up with him so that if I got Gifts I could drop them for him. Well, we ran a load of T16 rifts, I gave him a Gift, then we did some 2-man GRs. In the space of around 90 minutes I got these…
So far in S19 I’ve found 4 primals. Mantle of Channeling (the freebie from clearing GR70 solo the first time), 2 pieces of IK set and Fury of the Vanished Peak.
The IK ones are very welcome, I have 2 others in non-season. The IK gloves rolle Str, Vit, IAS and CHC, which to roll to CHD? I’m leaning towards Str to be sacrificed.
I’d call it unfair. But then again, RNG is always very whimsical.
whimsical my butt(won’t let you say a s s on forums) its notorious garbage thats what rng is. it is developers being to lazy to write code that would get rid of rng
RNG has always been part of the Diablo loot system. It’s one that folks on this very forum brigaded and screamed about and demanded lest the game no longer be Diablo.
Smart Loot does indeed restrict the search space.
Limits most drops to class-appropriate loot
Limits the affixes on items to ones that could be of use on that item
Strongly favors main stat on all items
Concept of primary and secondary stats guarantees the majority of affixes will add power to the item, while only 2 of them will be supporting/accessory affixes.
That’s all a huge effort to reduce the RNG in the game. Further, you have a ton of catch-up mechanisms to offset bad luck.
Kadala gambling
Kanai’s cube DB recipe, reforge recipe
The idea that you can store legendary affixes in the cube at all
The Mystic for rerolling a stat on an item of your choice
D3 has many, many mechanisms to reduce RNG while not removing the chaotic randomness that feeds the loot hunt addiction. IMO, it’s a good thing.
Smart Loot is one of my favorite things about D3. You mean I can actually find gear that my character can use instead of thousands of useless items for other classes?
It really is a breath of fresh air compared to other aRPG games.
Also took me a while to get a Zodiac this season, next day the game throws a Primal Zodiac at me.
Too bad a Primal is kinda wasted on that item imo since nothing really changes on it and a half decent Ancient is the ~same but I will take it anyway.
@Meteor
I also had a double Primal drop from a GR in S17,needless to say that did not happen again.
Personally, I agree with you. As a casual player myself who always plays SSF, Smart Loot made the endgame accessible to me and allowed me to have a lot of fun with a game that otherwise would have exhausted me because I despise grinding for the sake of grinding. WoW could get me to do it b/c their were guaranteed rewards. Diablo has no such thing.
My point was that this argument was the accepted view when D3 was in development, and is likely strongly supported, especially those who see D2 as a golden age and think trading can offset ridiculously low drop rates.
