Shared loot from mobs!

I know this will probably never happen with kids and their participation awards these days… but bring back a system of shared open world loot!

Diablo is a dark and dangerous place where players should constantly be looking over their shoulders. It would be great to go back to the D2 feel and pit players against each other in grabbing loot. If not in the instances, then at least in the open world.

It was great picking up something someone else wanted, followed by them begging you to trade with them and offering a ton of loot.

As an added element, it would be awesome to have the option to turn on players who picked up something that I wanted and kill them to win it back… This type of game play or mode would be so much fun…

Embrace the darkness please.

You’re right about that, and thank goodness for that.

Shared loot was one of the worst things in D2.

This is an easy NO from me.

I didn’t pay 60 bucks to get loot stolen from me.

I just don’t understand why? It makes the loot chase so much harder and more thrilling. Just played D2 with a friend the other night and I picked up a drop we both wanted. So satisfying to have won.

A PVP element to the looting system enhances the trading economy and actually makes getting stuff more exciting for everyone.

So many young egoists playing today. Shared loot was one of the high points of Diablo 2. Made “playing together” so much more real. Today players play to achieve their own spoils, together with others for the benefit of speed towards that goal.

Diablo without open loot isn’t Diablo… Its World of Warcraft.

It’s mostly a difference in opinion, you considered it fun and thrilling to get loot from the ground from others, I considered it a pain.

Talking about egoism, how is it altruistic to pick an item that someone else needed and keep it for yourself or bargain for trade with him after you both killed the same boss?

WoW has rolls Need and Greed for important loot. What are you talking about dude?

I consider it a pain as well. It was simply frustrating. If you did not rush ahead, spam pickup, had a slower internet connection, etc you got screwed. That was not fun at all. Stealing loot is not something that takes skill and it is not even an aspect of RNG. Imagine, you finally kill a mob and someone runs over and takes your drops.

Thankfully they are not going back to that. Are there any games that still allow kill stealing or loot stealing?

If there was an affix for “+% chance to find CURSED loot”…
And runewords for “cause explosions” “on pickup of cursed loot”

Pickup my stuff? Kaboom

I’m not saying that D2’s system was perfect, but if anything, it added so much more to the trading economy. I’m sure the smart minds at blizzard could come up with a system that captures the dark and dangerous spirit of Diablo… whether there is a ground timer on your items, or an option to duel over certain loot.

Or at the very least, let me see what dropped for the people around me, if not grayed out, to encourage trading. Everything centers around loot and getting it. Making a good trade can be just as rewarding if not more then finding something. Not to mention beating another player to win it.

This would be valid gameplay in a potential survival type mode of D4.

But not followed by this rather by a PvP duel. Just as it is the case with wild animals in nature.

I could definitely see potential in such PvPvE mode where you need some items from the mobs through the world to survive and you fight with other players for the kills and the items.

But we have to see first how PvP will work, because I am quite skeptical about it. MOBAs are way more interesting for such type of gameplay.

How about no? This is coming from someone who plugged hundreds of hours in to D1 and D2…

People will use scripts to auto pick up everything as it drops, we’ve seen this hell before in D2 when you need that 1 last item to complete your build and some Chinese gear seller gets it and sells it for 15 bucks… F-that noise dude… dumbest suggestion ever… that is a total step backwards.

I believe PoE does, but only if you select the Free For All loot option. Otherwise, no, they’re instanced.

Those who think open loot is a good thing haven’t thought this through.

Open loot in D4 will encourage a ninja looter mentality particularly with parties consisting of random players running dungeons and especially world events.

What kind of game does D4 become if the main objective of one or several players is to hoover up all the loot for themselves and leaving nothing for everyone else?

How does anyone justify a game to be fun when players kill a tough boss only for their rewards to be stolen?

Shared loot in a party with friends might work but not everyone has that luxury.

Individual loot solves this problem. There’s no need to fix it a second time.

I was recently alpha tested an upcoming MMO where I had spent hours farming and taking down tough enemies, paranoid that someone was stalking me. I was eventually ganked and EVERYTHING I had farmed was stolen. After that… I WAS HOOKED. I had something to work towards after this moment. I was determined to find and murder this player and enact my revenge.

With an open loot system, “ninja looters” can get flagged, and hunted down if they are found stalking, or have bounties placed on them. It would just be another way of enjoying the game with a deeper PVP system built into the dangerous world of Sanctuary.

PVP systems like this built into D4, or at least separate PVP servers, would be a welcomed feature and give more purpose to guilds to unite and create competitive rivalries.

And I’m not saying D4 should be exactly like this, the point is that open loot is just one way of pitting players against each other. More game play mechanics to that end would be exciting and give more meaning to the end game.
