I’ve been reading forums and google searches and can’t find a simple answer. If I started a game on normal is it impossible now for me to complete the season journey with this character because I cannot raise the difficulty level to Torment I from normal? Does this also mean that the only way to complete the season journey is either to do it with multiple characters, increasing the difficulty as you go, or starting level one on Master level so you can bump once up to Torment eventually? It seems you can only raise difficulty one time and that’s it so I guess I can’t complete the season journey with this character if I understand it correctly.
You can change the difficulty from the main menu at any time. It’s only in-game that you have limited options.

You can lower the difficulty in game, you just can’t raise it in game. Let’s say you start a Torment VI game and it is a bit much to handle, you can lower it to Torment V or IV or III, etc. without making a new game: you can’t start a game at Torment I, rush through mobs with ease, then raise to Torment VI before fighting a boss (to get higher drops) - prevents ‘cheating’.
And another important thing about season journey, especially if you want the rewards from conqueror and guardian, is that you don’t have to do the tasks in each chapter in the order they appear. You can skip ahead and do some of them later (often completing several tasks in one go).
