Season ending with short notice?

I was just playing in Asia and got a notice that the Season will end at the top of the hour! No more notice than that?
Did I miss a blog or article somewhere?
Yep, Season just ended in Asia and the characters rolled over.
I can’t believe I only got 20 minutes notice. Way to go, Blizzard!

WTF happen on asia i just check and season end so europe is next in 8 hours ???

Asia has been weird in the past. Hard to believe that Blizzard wouldn’t tell us in advance.

They announced the Darkening. One would think that Season end would be equally important.
We shall see tomorrow if EU and NA follow suit, or if someone pushed the wrong key in Asia.

Sometimes you get a shutdown message for server maintenance, out of the blue. Perhaps they have sent a wrong message to your server by accident. Are you sure the Season just ended in all Asia region servers?

Absolutely. Season characters are now Non-Season and there are mail messages.
At least, in Korea. I don’t play Taiwan.

For anyone who doubts, you can go to Asia sever and test whether you can create a seasonal character now.

Since season 33 ended on Jan 5th, that would imply season 34 will come on Jan 10th.

Well, what’s the new theme? No notice at all till now!

Indeed, Diablo 3 is deteriorating now!

I play all 3 Regions on two accounts. I was trying to complete the Altar in Asia when it shut down.
Some advance notice would have been nice.

Asia season has definitely ended for now. Season chars cannot be created and previous season chars now have a stack of mail with items. No 4th cube slot.
If it’s a bug, maybe it will be rolled back?
if it’s intended, we might see EU season end at 5pm CET (UTC+1) Sun Jan-5, and NA season end at 5pm PST, if following previous timings.

You know, back when I complained that we should be able to get actual D3-related news on D3 official forums, this isn’t what I meant.

I wasn’t talking about logging in on a random Sunday prior to going grocery shopping, and discovering “oh hey, bee tee dubs the season just ended in Asia” being posted from rando’s.

I was really rather instead hoping for ACTUAL BLUE’s to DO THEIR JOBS. But I guess that’s too much to ask for…

Thanks for the heads up everyone. When nobody looks out for the community, at least the community still looks out for itself. Looks like I’m banging out the rest of the journey to get my pet today, prior to 8PM EST, just in case…

EDIT: fixed hypothetical start date

I just had a disturbing hypothesis:

We had TWO extra weeks for Season 32. Now, everyone’s been doing math to estimate end dates, based on the assumption we went back to an 86 day system, or one that does NOT have two extra weeks baked into it. THAT’s the source of people’s guesses that Season 33 would end Jan 19th, and the new one would start Jan 24th.

But, funny thing… guess how much time there is between Jan 19th, and Jan 5th?

Two. Weeks.

Might could be coincidence, I mean it’d certainly be shoddy piss-poor planning and programming on their part, but what if… what IF they “pre-programmed” season start and end dates? Back when they were “flipping the switch” to make this game Maintenance Mode™?

What if they have to go BACK INTO that dbase and MANUALLY adjust starts and ends? Again, it wouldn’t make sense, it’d be VERY stupid… but this is BLIZZARD we’re talking about. Does anyone still legitimately have high confidence in them to not make this kind of mistake?

They might very well have forgotten to adjust this season’s end date. TODAY would have been the “expected” end date for S33 if not for that 2 week extension from prior Season.

If “the source of people’s guesses”  are accurate, that would be Jan 24th.

New Seasons have always started on Friday. (Not Saturday).


Nothing that Blizzard does, or doesn’t do, surprises me anymore.

What surprises me is when they get something right.

This is one of those times where I don’t WANT to be right.

Worst part is, they won’t fix it. And we all know it. It’s Sunday, and the entire reason this happened to begin with is because they don’t want to / won’t bother to put resources into doing this game’s maintenance properly. They’re NOT going to call someone into the office to tweak a dbase value.

Here’s something that doesn’t add up though: why did we not get a formal announcement, if these things were pre-planned? Of course, I have a few theories about that as well:

  1. The announcements themselves aren’t pre-drafted, and a human would have had to craft an announcement later this week.
  2. The announcements WERE delayed to coincide with the “expected” end date of 19th, even though the internal end date flag for the actual game was overlooked.

Had some of the best gear i’ve seen in ages and was all ready to push this week and just get rug pulled by a no advanced warning season end again

How hard can it be to give an advanced warning, why do we keep not getting one?
