The Scavenged Scabbard bounty in watch tower in Act 1 is still bugged. The final part of the quest “return vendel’s scabbard” cannot be completed, because the item in level 2 cannot be clicked.
Please fix!
Maybe if you bothered posting how to replicate this bug, it might be fixed. Otherwise you are just b*ing for the sake of it.
wow someone’s toxic… here’s a step-by-step guide for ya:
- open a game, check if you get that bounty.
- if not, remake the game until you get the bounty.
- try to do the bounty.
I’ve done that many many times and never had a problem with the bounty.
Which region were you playing on ?
Were you playing solo or as part of a group ?
if solo, what hero class ?
Were you playing season or non-season ?
What difficulty level were you playing ?
Did you capture the issue on a video by any chance ?
I remember reading reports on the issue… both on D3 forums and on Reddit… but, never had the issue. Perhaps I’m just lucky.
Fact is, I’ve done this bounty a lot of times. And you don’t even have to wait for it to be a bounty, since the Watch Tower is a fairly common event in the game.
I have run into the bug a couple of times during the last bonus bounty season, both times using the Helltooth chicken WD. Both times happened when I didn’t click on Vendel first, but just made a beeline to the scabbard. I thought this might be what was causing the bug. I tried replicating it, and failed to do so after 10 tries. And those were the only two times I encountered this bug. I never encountered it with my DH, even though that is the main class I play.
As far as I can tell, it seems to be purely random whether you get this bug or not, which is why it is so difficult to fix.
If this happens again, try toggling between Fullscreen and Windowed (Fullscreen) in the Video Options.
As others stated, give as much detail as you can when you encountered the bug. Screenshots and video captures are very helpful. For example:
Bounty: Scavenged Scabbard
- Start Game.
- Check for Bounty: Scavenged Scabbard in Act I, Southern Highlands. Leave Game and restart if necessary.
- Take the Act I Waypoint to the Southern Highlands.
- Follow the Quest arrow on the mini-Map to the Watch Tower.
- Enter the Watch Tower Level 1 and follow the Quest arrow on the mini-Map to the entrance of the Watch Tower Level 2.
- Enter Watch Tower Level 2 and talk to Vendel the Armorsmith.
- Explore the Watch Tower Level 2 until you find a narrow ⊓ shaped passage off of the main corridor.
- Enter the narrow passage and kill Armorer’s Bane and its Minions.
- Click on the Jeweled Scabbard to pick it up.
- Talk to Vendel the Armorsmith to complete the Bounty.

I am having the same bug. I am on Torment XVI. I saw this green thing on the floor that must be the scabbard - but there is no way to click on it. I thought maybe there was some other trick to “activate” it, so I ran all around the map again, killed everything, broke every barrel, opened every chest, same issue. I have a screen shot of it but I don’t know how to post it.
There is no “add image” button on this chat editor. I see an HTML editor, but I’m not so concerned about it I’m going to web host the photo so I can embed a link. Let me post this comment and then I will try to find out how you attach images to forum posts.
but p.s. in addition to this bug on the bounty I would like to feature request - please make it more obvious how you attach images to posts.
OK, I give up. I can’t figure out how to attach an image to a post (at least, not in less than 2 minutes), and this really isn’t worth any more of my time.
Since I can’t attach the screen shot, to the tech team I would like to report this happened between 2:45 am and 3 am on Tue, Feb 1 2022. Maybe you can track my account activity through the server game logs if there is such a thing. I kinda doubt it - that would be a lot of data to store somewhere.
And to whoever was the snarky person posting above, please be kind. We’re not making it up. This is a real bug. Just because your experience doesn’t line up with our experience doesn’t mean it’s not happening. If you disregard information from people that doesn’t line up with your own experience, then by definition you will never learn anything you don’t already know. You need to trust that other people aren’t stupid, at least not all of us, and maybe put some faith in the testimony of your fellow man.
My advice to everyone else: If you want to run Act 1 bounties, check first if the “Scavenged Scabbard” bounty is listed - before you waste your time running any other bounties. If so, exit the game and reload.

You should have started a new thread for this issue. Necro-bumping threads is frowned on in these forums. And this one is over 2 years old. (Just so you know, if you need to post a different issue in the future. Always check the date of the OP and the last post before replying.).
I would ask you if you talked to Vendel the Armorsmith first. But, you cannot avoid this. If you don’t initiate the conversation by clicking on him, he will run after you and initiate it automatically. There’s no way to avoid it.
You were on Watch Tower Level 2, right?
The Scabbard is always located in the same place. That is: It is located in a narrow passage that U-turns off of one of the hallways. As you approach it, you should also encounter the Rare Elite, Armorer’s Bane. (See image below).

No one has ever claimed that this isn’t a real bug. In fact, it is well known and has been reported several times. The issue is that it is intermittent and no one has managed to repeat it reliably.
No, the problem is that you have provided exactly ZERO new information. Blizzard has never claimed to have fixed this bug in any of their patch notes, so it is no surprise that it keeps poppling up. If you really want to add something to this conversation, a screenshot isn’t going to help since everybody knows what the scabbard looks like. What would help would be a step-by-step set of instructions on how to recreate this bug for the developers.
Also, there is no need to avoid this bounty, since most of the times it will work fine. That is the issue with all the known bounty bugs: they are intermittent. Most of the time they work fine, but occasionally they fail, and no one knows why.
