It’s no secret that the current Blizzard is just dried out husk of its former self when it actually released good game after good game. Now it’s basically a corporate entity that cut the face off the old blizzards corpse and wears it proudly as if nothing changed. Based on:
How they handled Diablo 3 (ARNT YOU THANKFUL?)
How they reacted to fans wanting old WoW (YOU THINK YOU DO BUT YOU DONT)
How they released reforged (SORRY IF YOU DIDNT GET THE EXPERIENCE YOU WANTED)
Mobile gaming in a company known for its outstanding PC games (DO YOU NOT HAVE PHONES?)
I have really deep concerns that diablo 4 is just going to be another childlike imitation of what inexperienced interns think diablo should be; likely being whipped in a dark room by Bobby himself to rush the development for a fast cash grab.
Well, after watching Rhykker express his opinions on the quarterly update and imagining it myself, i’d say I am hopeful and looking forward to it. I think the team is a new iteration with a fresh perspective.
Rhykker was the dude that was shilling how good Wolcen was right before release since he got a dev copy of the full game. Then on release it was one of the worst ARPG launches of all time. I don’t trust the dude as far as I can throw him. And no it wasn’t just server issues that he couldn’t predict since he was playing solo offline mode, it was all the bugs in the game, lack of meaningful endgame etc etc
I actually think the current team has done about as good of a job as they could have done. Jay Wilson’s D3 was a mediocre ARPG and a horrible Diablo game imho. The current game isn’t nearly that bad but has limitations to it that were just simply too built into the core gameplay to really fix well. While I much prefer Grim Dawn I actually have a lot of respect for what the current team on D3 managed to evolve the game to.
Have to agree that it seemed a bit out of place
Have no opinion as I don’t really care for Warcraft that much (yes, I’ve heard but hard to feel the burn when you don’t care)
This shouldn’t necessarily harm the PC side that much and, yes, I realize that it appears both BlizzAct and Bethesda have managed to screw up their core titles when doing this but, in theory, this shouldn’t really matter
Who couldn’t have some concerns to be honest. I’ve essentially quit Blizzard except for what D4 might bring and SC Cartoon fun. Diablo and Magic are really the only two franchises that I am a “fanboy” of and have the nostalgia lens for. Simply put D4, for me, will be Blizzard’s last chance to not have them become a nameless developer to me like EA, Ubisoft, etc. We have quite some time to go and I obviously hope to probably an absurd level that the D4 property rekindles some magic.
We’ll see what happens… I’m neither HYPED! nor pessimistic on D4… just guarded hope towards a franchise I don’t want to have to bury.
When was that? Because I’ve been playing their games for decades and I remember a lot of delays, cancellations, bad launches, and missteps. There have been moments of brilliance but they were few and far between. Mostly what Blizzard was known for is fixing their games instead of abandoning them. Not everyone liked the final results but at least they put in the effort.
Honestly, so far, it seems they are catering more towards console players…
A lot of the stuff they are doing is to make it “easier” for console players, do they think all console players have brain damage and can’t handle more than 3 stats?
Also the inventory system, getting rid of different sized items (Now an Amulet or Ring is the same size as a Two Handed Axe) in D4, will make it easier for the console player. Now your backpack is a glorified trashcan where you can dump 40 pieces of armor in, so you can go and trash them all for mats.
Let’s not forget that PoE is on Consoles now, and they didn’t gimp it at all for the Console version.
As if all PC players are MENSA member or something. As if putting point int your main stat, END, and what ever you need to equip a piece of gear was not easy or posed some challenging thought.
It’s about dumbing the entirety of the game down - the whole experience. It’s very obvious that they are catering to the console and mobile ports. The grids, the 90 degree layouts and simple skill trees.
No one’s saying PC gamers are smarter, but the over simplification of the UI, interface and trees is quite obvious. it’s geared toward the limitations of the contoller/UI.
Nothing wrong with streamlining and making things easier to read and navigate. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing. Skill trees aren’t really skill trees just a more restrictive passive ability system. It was never meant to be a proper skill tre if you will.
They just don’t want to do item tetris, it is just annoying to players. It has nothing to do with making it easier for console or any other type of players. Item tetris isn’t all that hard to do for anyone. It is just extra time spent that should be spent slaughtering hell’s minions. Instead you want someone to take extra time to figure out how to get the most items so they can keep going back and forth to sell them all.
You might like multiple trips to town after a few minutes or so of play but not everyone does.
Yeah, I get what you are saying, but to me I see it differently.
They have been slowing taking away what made Diablo, “Diablo” to me… With getting rid of stats, changing itemzation to just another legendary item hunt (when I still think D2 has the best itemzation in any game.) Now getting rid of item “tetris” (Which I just see it as a cool way to show your items in your bag, I have always liked the look of the armors and weapons and how they varied in size, it just is more appealing to me.)
I compare it to Retail WoW & Classic WoW, some people like those extra hoops and like more of a hardcore mindset, rather than the streamlined version. While others like the more simple approach to a game, and just want to get to the action as fast as possible.
So yeah, it all boils down to preference.
Either way, I am excited for D4, and I hope they do not compromise on the PC version at all (Oh wait, they already are, look at the Character UI, and getting rid of item tetris), since they trying to do the whole PC/Console thing.
I’m shocked too. do nothing and still not broke? I apply to them and will drink 2 liters of beer before work. at work i will look at a wall for 8 hours and enjoy my life.
Wow, just wow tetris is hardcore I fail to see how it is hardcore. Nothing hard about figuring out how to get the most items in your bag. It is just annoying. Actually D4’s one cell, which btw is more like 1.5-1.75 cells in D3 if you have noticed. Seeing them on your character is where they really count the most to me.
You know, at first I was against the fact that different items are all the same size slots, then I thought about it and a lot of games have gone this route that are far more complex than Diablo will ever be. Pillars of Eternity, Baldur’s Gate series, Icewind Dale series are just a few that already have the “one size fits all”. I don’t think it’s as big a concern as some make it sound when there are other parts of the gameplay that are far more important.
I’m more concerned with how the mechanics, affixes, and itemization will affect gameplay than I am about the inventory now. I find the lack of attributes disturbing for a game that is suppoesd to be an ARPG and not just a hack’n’slash arcade game, but I’m waiting to see how the other affixes on gear and how skills can affect gameplay.
So long as they don’t believe ‘MOAR ZEROES’ is the best content a game can get, I’ll try to keep an open mind.
