there has been discussions in some of the streams I’ve been in lately. some think s29 ptr will come before d4 launch and others think after d4 launch but before season 1. any info we can get on this or is it still too early?
S28 is just now at 2 months. They have not giving any info so everyone is speculating. No one know anything.
I would be highly surprised if PTR would be online before 6/6, if anything I would imagine they would intentionally hold back as to not interfere with D4.
Sit back and relax. My guess, S28 will last at least another 2 months. D4 has a Beta on May 12, then early release on June 1st, then full release on June 6th. I can’t imagine a PTR for a new season before July. Just my 2 cents.
I thought I had read S29 was going to be the last season before D4, which would mean they’d have to squeeze its launch in just before D4 since D2:R’s new season is launching May 4th and they mentioned they’re trying to spread D2:R/D3 and D4 seasons out (What happened to ''resets every 4 months'' - #24 by PezRadar1 - General Discussion - Diablo 2 Resurrected Forums).
That would mean it’d have to be kind of rushed timeline wise compared to how past seasons worked with PTRs and then a patch and then several days before the next season started.
I guess that might have just been a streamer or fan prediction though since I can’t find any official blizzard comment on it.
It would be kind of neat to have a quick D2:R play into a quick D3 play before D4 I think. Kind of like watching the previous movies/seasons of a show before the new release.
S29 is the last season to have a new theme they will recycle after S29.
Will Diablo III continue to have new Season themes or will they start repeating after Season 28?
Season 29 will have a new Season theme. Rod Fergusson elaborated further “it won’t be as rich as Season 28”. Starting with Season 30 previous Seasons will be repeated. There will be “a mix and match of previous cosmetics and features that made up previous Seasons”. Future development efforts will go into Diablo IV.
That’s probably what I was thinking of. I think it would have made sense for the last significant season of D3 before they go into full maintenance mode to happen before D4, but that would mean it’d have to be just over a week of D2:R season 4 before D4 server slam, then D3 S29 on the 19th just before D4.
You only really need a week or two before June since not many D3 players play beyond that into a D3 season anyway, but it would be a bit cramped I guess.
They said that S29 launch would be a bit after the first season launch of D4 right?
And normally they run PTR just the weeks straight before the season.
And they probably don’t want S29 PTR to overlap with D4 launch.
With those assumptions, they’d push forward so that PTR startes only a bit after D4 launch, or they split with S29 PTR before D4 launch, then longer than usual break before S29 launch? I’d guess they’ll just push everything S29 back to after D4 has settled in.
But really, I’ve no idea, I think everyone’s just speculating at this point. ![]()
I hope S28 goes 6 months, having a blast.
My guess is that S29 will be at least two months after D4 Season 1. I personally don’t think they will drop the S29 PTR until D4’s first season has had at least 1 month of play.
Me too. I’ve been super busy lately… I’ve gotten to GR141 but haven’t soloed GR150 yet. Would be the first time I’ve wanted a season to last that long.
I absolutely agree!
this season should be the longest and it also seems to me that 6 months is the ideal time for him.
Would be cool if they just took S28 and shoved all it’s content straight into the non-season side.
Certainly would increase the longevity for me at least. I have a roster full of characters that I would love to play this on.
Despite tremendous rewards brought by the S28 Altar, this is the first time I’ve just stopped signing into D3 altogether.
Sure there were RL obligations drawing my attention, but TBH, I really had no desire returning to a festival of speed GR150 clears. The carrot was placed close to the nose and I chomped it down way too early in the season.
It’s hard to draw enthusiasm about D3 when D4 is around the corner, but here goes:
What are everyone’s thoughts on S29 being more challenging than recent ones?
Not like S23/26, but a QoL that adds some sweeping depth, a tame power up, and maybe a few interesting mods for GRs.
I 100% agree with you. I thought I would enjoy S28 more and was pretty hyped at the start because of all the buffs. But surprisingly, I was bored pretty quickly. Too easy, maybe? I barely logon anymore. I’m more interested in D4 and can’t wait for June.
S28 is great from a solo player perspective. No reason to be bored.
Haven’t seen any of the usual posts like in earlier seasons where people a few days or weeks into season go: I’ve finished season. When is next PTR??? Booooriiing!!!
I think a lot of people only expect to get a week or less out of any D3 season and see no reason to post about it anymore.
I mostly stopped playing S28 after finishing the season journey and the altar as I usually do. Played it less than some previous seasons since nobody on my friends list was playing it.
Rifting and paragon farming just aren’t activities that keep most players interested for long no matter what the theme is.
Unless s29 is a planned thing / diablo 4 themed promo i would not expect to see ptr anytime soon.
Assuming that S29 does not need a PTR and the theme is strictly a D4 promo, they’d have to have announced S28 end date by this Sunday to give it 2 weeks. Then, start S29 on the 19th May for there to be any play time before D4 early access starts.
I certainly hope they don’t do this… better to introduce a mid season theme instead and do a proper patch/theme that’s tested for S29.
dear devs, please take a big look at CoE + karini rings. This combo creates big lags in GR group plays.
Yesterday 4man group: zdh, zbarb, and two wiz. one wiz played with 130% Area Damage, other three 0% AD. Both wiz played with focus & restraint rings.
There were only two mini-lags (2sec each time) in our plenty GR150 speedruns (~6min).
This was an amazing experience for me, first time this season. No lags at very high GRs.
Google lists several sites saying s28 ends in August. Doubt there will be much of a PTR since s29 is supposed to be dummied down. All effort will be in D4 from here on out.
I like that D4 is close enough to D3 to cater to those that enjoy D3. The war will be fought between D4 and D2:R. D4 will draw more D3 players than D2 players. I don’t think D4 will have enough OG elements to pry the diehards away from D2 the way it can D3. Will probably still play D3 some between D4 seasons for the nostalgia of old seasons.
