I’ve said it before, but Runewords were basically a primitive form of crafting. So, while crafting does exist in D3, in its current state, it’s not really adequate. A coat of paint of gibberish words/sounds is not what crafting needs to improve, either.
So, food for thought, what if after this season ends, ethereals can be crafted exclusively.
When D3 was released we all were upset, that we lost runewords and skilltrees.
But we got used to it and hope they bring both back with D4.
I dont think, that they would add runewords in D3 exept maybe as season theme, like ethereals
Considering that most of the socket-able item types only have up to 1 socket, excluding chest and pants (which can have up to 3 and 2 sockets respectively), I don’t see runewords being brought back without at least some moderate alterations.
Not to mention that bringing runes to D3 now would only adds more crap you need to stash away until you can build a rune word - and then be disappointed by dumb RNG. Just no. I like D2 Runewords, but honestly… they have no room in D3. The gamer does not need them.
Instead we should ask for long overdue updates to this huge boat load of trash legendaries polluting the loot pool… and balance revisions to sets and skills. Hopefully the next patch notes will offer something interesting.
On that note, I hope the current season meets an early end. The sooner the better. From my point of view, it’s one of the more annyoing and boring ones they did so far. I did not delete my useless seasonal character so far, because normally they add extra goblins or double caches right after I do that.
Runewords worked in D2 but not in D3 with its current state. As mentioned, in most cases runes would only add more unnecessary crap to be stored to the limited stash. Had runewords been implemented with RoS release and the sets had never been overhauled to become the nominal base for builds, maybe then they could have worked.
Instead of adding more useless crap I’d overhaul the existing useless crap. A whole heap of legendaries are just instasalvage for not having a legendary power or having a completely useless or underpowered one.
Normally I am not the type that uses “all”, but in this special case during that time period while D3 was released, it really was what I experienced:
So by “we all” I ment 1. every english and german gaming article I was reading about D3 short before and during release time, 2. myself (after reading the first of those articles) and 3. all posts about that topic in one Diablo forum. I guess it was indiablo.
At that time I saw not one single hyped by the new rune system. Really every single opinion was against it.
(But players may have changed their opinion through the years. I admit it is convenient. But I look forward to D4 and the return of a skilltree that cannot be unlocked up to 100%.)
Back to topic.
It is easy to explain why everyone was against it at that time:
because this new system lowered the niveau and was more casual orientated.
Also at that early time every single opinion I found was upset to lose skilltree-points and stat poinst to skill by yourself and thought D3 is too cartoonish colorful and Blizz gave Deckard Cain an unworthy death.
Only the RMAH had twisted opinions. But most voices were against opening a RMAH and later most voices were against closing it, as far as I could see. Changes often are hard.
Conclusion:
It is not my fault that I did not find anyone who was hyped by the new rune system and new skill system during release time. My experience really was “everyone was against it”.
But I can admit one thing:
I had no chance to see into every single head world wide.
So maybe there was someone in China who was hyped by the casual system because I cannot read asian articles. Or maybe there was someone hyped by casuality but just did not talk about it. But the probability is very low because most humans like to defend their opinion, if others dont agree. (Best example the D2R ploot discussion.)
At least someone from Blizz though more casual is better.
So are you trying to claim that every single person that bought D3 was against it
there was a few million copies bought in the first week from what I understand
and I was in the forums at that early stage and didn’t see nowhere near the traffic in there complaining about that issue and I didn’t have an issue with it, and neither did my uncle or brother in law
And only the haters came on to complain everyone else was busy playing the game otherwise they would of stopped playing and come in to complain
kind of like when the servers crashed on day one forums were busy that day
While this is true you can’t take a small percentage of people that came in to complain about the game as everyone
What I find in real life is:-
If someone buys something and doesn’t do what is expected or work the way they were told they are quick to take it back and get a refund and complain about it
Very very few people actually come back and say great job
And with stores if you don’t like the store you don’t go back
Well I did see a video from Blizzard that stated that D3 was meant to be casual and for the WoW players to casually play while taking a break or whatever they do in WoW, I’m not a WoW player although annoyed that it was made to be casual for WoW players instead of being made for the Diablo players
