Ruby or diamond -which best for defense?

I´ve been seeing a lot of the higher level WD players putting rubies in their slots rather than diamonds. Since diamonds supposedly provide the best “resist all” quality, why would rubies provide better defense or armor, since they are described as a “strength” enhancer?

Intelligence grants resist all while strength/dexterity grants armor. As such, int classes try to get additional armor, while str/dex typically extra all resist. There are some exceptions.

INT classes get AR naturally, at a rate of 1/10 Intelligence. So, you normally want rubies for armour.

FWIW assuming Mundu set…this is a rare build in that, for highest levels, you’ll want amethysts for VIT, combined with the Blood Magic passive. (Let’s you drop Rush of Essence/Manitou for say…CR and Spirit is Willing.)

It depends on how much All Resistance you already have. You can just compare your toughness sheet value with each setup.

What is CR? Sorry I’m not too familiar

Confidence Ritual. Doesn’t have to be this passive…you do you.
Some people opt for the cheat death, etc.

Edit: I should mention…the Blood Ritual setup is only when you run the Capt. Crimson variant, b/c BR adds to your resource reduction, making you…tougher. (Won’t say tanky.)

Simply put, if your resistances times 6 is greater than your armor value, then you’d gain more from an Emerald or a Ruby. This usually happens past 15000 main stat.

Diamonds give the equivalence of 680 armor, and the others only 280, which is the big part of it. But due to relative scaling they are offset a little bit, and the higher your main stat, the bigger the advantage of not stacking resist, but rather Armor. Rule of thumb is to use diamonds until paragon 1200-1500.

Strength and Dexterity modifiers adds armor to your character, while Intelligence adds All Resistance, hold your mouse cursor over you stats and a description will appear.
