I would be very disappointed if rogue turned out like DH 2.0. rogues should be EQUALLY focused on melee vs ranged, if not MORE focused on melee.
This was one of the things that ruined DH and why so few ppl like DH now: melee is shunned. Blizzard better not fall into the same trap again.
I don’t care how it was in D1, 99% of d4 players will never have even touched it. Rogue MUST be at least equally melee focused or you will drive tons of players away and disappoint them. Please don’t make the same mistake twice blizzard.
I would rephrase that by saying that it should be able to choose to either focus fully on ranged, either focus fully on melee, either be a bit of both (typically, I’d rather be able to go fully non-spell ranged on one of the characters).
But I do believe that’s already what’s intended, so don’t worry.
The developer has confirmed you can have all range or all melee, or hybrid, & not be “2nd class citizen” his word if you want to focus on one or another or hybrid.
The Rogue is a highly mobile and agile hybrid between melee and range who imbues poisons and other things into her weapons, and drops traps — she borrows elements from the Diablo I rogue; the Diablo II assassin; throwing weapons from the Amazon; and the Diablo III demon hunter.
Rogue can switch between melee and range seemlessly without delay.
Rogue can drop Caltrops to damage opponents that walk into them.
Rogue can lace her weapons with cursed shadow to explode enemies which damage nearby targets; frost to slow and chill enemies; toxins to poison her enemies (this can spread to other mobs); or acid to melt her enemies.
Rogue can imbue daggers or arrows with any of those substances.
Rogue has an ability known as Dash to charge through enemies.
Rogue’s cold imbued attacks trigger chill quicker when synergized with friendly Sorceress’s cold attacks.
The Rogue can equip one-hand daggers and one-hand swords for slashing and stabbing; and also bows and crossbows for ranged attacks.
Primary Stats: Dexterity. However, as the iteration and balance process evolves throughout development things might change. Currently, Dexterity provides extra skill damage and evade chance. Strength increases resource regeneration. Intelligence increases her crit.
The Rogue will encounter other Rogue quests out there where she will assist other rogue guild factions to access specialized training that enhances her playstyle.
They will. Developers promised that there will be options to switch back and forth between a cutthroat and a ranger. Also Demon Hunters in the current Diablo 3 RoS, you won’t believe it, have a melee option and quite a few builds where they don’t exactly need bows to cast.
That never was the case back in Diablo 1 and their depiction in Diablo 2 at all. No idea what you would assume or read.
Rogue is fine, I mean they decided to go that way cause it’s more representative than not… Could’ve gone for a conquistador/warrior with swords, spears, and crossbows but they decided to go “classic” style for the sake of nostalgia
Sure, that decision may downsize the choice a bit for another melee class but it’s not like you can’t play melee from the any of the classes so far (yes, even the Sorc has a melee build with high life return with willpower & fast/er cast from wands)
???
Near as I can tell Demon Hunter remains one of the most popular classes to play and I’ve never heard anyone complain that they are not ‘melee’ enough.
You forgot to add an ‘or else’.
TONS of players? Or just you?
From everything I’ve seen and read about the Rogue, it looks as though you’re going to get your wish so I’m not sure why you felt the need to post this.
Also, there are going to be TONS of players (like me) who will buy and play D4 no matter what the classes are, or what their range is, and make up our minds if it’s good or not after we’ve tried it.
I think you should let the rogue develop differently through skilling, which I assume anyway.
That’s what skill trees are for, and that’s what makes the classes exciting and increases the replayability value enormously.
The Rogue can be a pure fast Melee, but he should be able to become a slowed down range character. Also to have a contrast in it and to be able to fully focus on ranged combat.
It would be very unattractive, for example, if I end up flipping around as a range like a fast DW dagger melee.
The Range should play in such a way that he has to run less, he has a completely different feel, slower from a safe distance, etc. than a melee fighter.
I feel like Blizz is trying to make every class a button mashing class again, which is already a huge mistake and a failure.
For this I do not even need to turn on the PC and do me the mischief, I know that even so from experience and logical understanding that this monotonous synchronization of the characters is for the dustbin.
Let’s hope that Blizz does not make the same mistake as in D3…
