RNG is the best

Alright, who stole all my luck this season, and why do I always have to be behind the bell curve so someone else can be in front?

I know what RNG is. And I know that this is part of the game, but after many attempts, I have decided to post my own pity topic in the hopes that rngesus will finally smile on my cause sacrificing puppies and kittens didnt appease him.

67 Izual runs, zero staff of herding drops.

Out of 109 of attemtps to spawn caverns of frost by quitting and reloading, I have only spawned it 11 times, only spawned it with chiltara 4 times, and received no GGs.

74 attempts at ancient hell fire amulet with no success.

Yes, I have actually tracked it, so please allow my compensatory drops to occur now that I have made my post.

In before the trolls.

You’re just having a spurt of bad luck. It happens to us all. Take a short break, let your frustration cool down and go back to it. We’re not even a month into the season, plenty of time.

I’m even trying to let them be better. For shame.

He never drops the staff of herding.
“Trolling” aside you seem to be hit by awful bad luck. Which is sad of course and destroying the sense of progress in the game.

Some things for the staff can be farmed on normal but some seem to be better farmed at higher levels

That’s highly improbable. It sounds more like you aren’t checking all six spawn points.

One time, I ran Izual a ton and got nothing. Then frustrated, I checked Haedrig… I had it already.

This happens occasionally. Especially if you encounter an Odious Collector Goblin on your way to Izual. You may pick up extra Plans and teach them to Haedrig without even noticing that one of them is the Plan: Staff of Herding.

Tip:

Always check with Haedrig the Blacksmith before setting out to farm for the Plan: Staff of Herding.

Really? The only thing I know that can improve the odds isn’t difficulty settings it’s switching from Adventure to Campaign. By running Campaign you can guarantee the Caverns show in Act III which effectively doubles your chances of getting the Gibbering Gem. But the rest are flat percentage drop chances irrespective of level or difficulty.

Of all the documents I’ve researched from 2012 to 2023, only 2 of them even talked about Game Difficulty when farming the components for the Staff of Herding.

Icy Veins

Adventure Mode or Campaign Mode and Difficulty Settings

We farmed the staff after the release of Patch 2.1.0 and we found that the difficulty setting seemed to have no influence on the drop rates

Diablo 3 Artisans

Plans: Staff of Herding

To craft a staff of Herding you will need the following materials:

  1. Black Mushroom – Found in Level 1 of the Cathedral (Act I any difficulty)
  2. Leoric’s Shinbone – Found in Leoric’s Manor (Act I any difficulty)
  3. Liquid Rainbow – Found in the Southwestern area of the Dahlgur Oasis (Act II any difficulty)
  4. Writ’s Bell – Found at the vendor Squirt the Peddler in Caldeum Bazaar (Act II any difficulty)
  5. Gibbering Gemstone – Found in Caverns of Frost, drops off the rare mob Chiltara (Act III any difficulty)
  6. and 50,000 gold

All the other documents, past or current, did not even mention “Game Difficulty”.

Seeing as it is a 50% spawn, you must have legendary bad luck. Flipping a coin 109 times and only getting 11 tails is extremely long odds.

Most likely OP’s problem. Op may also only be loading to get the bounties with “Caverns of Frost” or “Kill Chiltara”.

Incorrect. Whether it be Campaign or Adventure mode, Caverns is 50% spawn and Icefall is 50% spawn. Now Chiltara is different. She is 80% spawn in Caverns on Adventure mode and 100% spawn in Caverns on Campaign.

I got every part for the staff in 3 games, so my bad.

I got mine at 50+ crafts so that at least ain’t on me.

In 2.5 hours of play yesterday I had 8 primal ancients drop, half of them were all core pieces for my necro build.

Guess I stole someone else’s luck

Maybe I should have bought lottery ticket instead.

I got the liquid rainbow during a random bounty, first time I was even in the area this season. Sorry for taking your luck.

Sorry, that one is me. Took me 4 tries.

The key word is “seem”
It’s based on what I’ve seen in youtube videos, in comments on youtube videos, on discussion forums and the likes.
There is no proof, it’s just what people experience themselves. Like if someone has tried getting something to drop on normal or another level many times and suddenly gets it after changing to T7, they will says that farming on T7 is the best.

He is right the craven of frost 10% to 20% of the time. It happen the same way with my grand daughter and her Step Grandma. They said there were times they would get the Ice Cave like 10 times in a row.

The one that is harder now is the Rainbow Bottle. That cave shows up about 10% of the time and then the chest is about 10% of the time too.

The Shinbone, Mushroom, & Rainbow Bottle are now harder to get then the Gem Stone. Plus I’m only going on what they have told me.

This shinbone must be in the easy category because of its location. It is fast to check for it when making all the new games in the search of the hard-to-find items.

I got the cave two times out of two games, the chest in the second so clearly the cave is 100% and the chest is 50%.

Alright, since my pity post, I crafted 14 more amulets before getting an ancient.

I did 100 resets and got caverns 7 times. Chiltara twice and no GG.

On the 101st attempt, I pulled kill chiltara instead of clear caverns, which hasnt happend in the 200+ quit/reload attemtps.

Finally dropped the GG.

4 more Izual encounters no staff.

Couple things, I meant plans, not the actual staff in my initial post.

No plans in Haedrig. I thought of that and checked prior to posting. I was like wouldn’t that really suck if I already jad them!

I was not checking all spawn locations for the caverns, but I did check the two right by the way point.

I was only looking for the actual bounty, not all 6 locations.

Now back to farming our lovable traitor.

Good luck, friend. It’ll drop, just don’t let yourself get frustrated.

In season 28, I did over 11 hours of runs to get the Gibbering Gemstone.
This season, I got it on my 2nd run.
RNG at its finest.

Yes, I know the drop rate was increased to 20% but it’s still damned lucky.

Okay, I guess I’m the S.O.B. that stole your luck–I just crafted my 2nd Staff of herding for the season because I’m still trying to get the #$%&*@#$ rainbow portrait frame. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
