Ring Question on COE and Skull Clasp

can anyone explain why COE over Skull Clasp?

COE works 1/5 of time at max

Skull Clasp WW damage is all the time

the set enhances WW , does it not add?

just an OG trying to figure it out

WW does very little damage in this build. So, Skull Grasp doesn’t really help your dps much- far less than CoE.

As Rage mentioned, Skull Grasp only gives a boost to Whirlwind damage, and the vast majority of our damage in the WW/Rend build actually comes from Rend. So, Skull Grasp is a major, and permanent boost to a skill that does very little damage, and COE is 4 seconds of excellent damage boost to our main damaging skill out of every 16 seconds. You can time this so you’re doing manual Rends, stood in an Oculus circle, on Physical cycle and see hugely increased damage.

How much discrepancy between the abilities is it? Well, here’s my non-seasonal Barb…

Whirlwind

  • DPS: 346,316,981,194

Rend

  • DPS: 109,039,122,599,063

109,039,122,599,063 / 346,316,981,194 = 314.85

In other words, Rend is doing almost 315 times more damage than WW. Even boosting WW by 400%, i.e. a five times multiplier, would mean that Rend would still be doing almost 63 times more damage than WW.
