Rimeheart vs Smoldering Core on cube

Using Meteor comet (ice), has anyone tried if Rimeheart is viable/efficient in GR?

update: Tried it. It can’t keep up with core’s damage. What a waste, rimeheart has so much potential if the chance was increased from 20% to 100%.

Increasing the chance wouldn’t help much, since the effect has an internal cooldown. Unless that icd is removed or at least significantly shortened, you won’t get Rimeheart to a viable level.

Rimeheart has no other multiplier so the damage is pitiful just like manald. it’s good for GR 40.

Even 1 single stack of smoldering core does more damage by far.

Yep. That’s another factor. But let’s paint a picture to illustrate the issue. A comparable effect/mechanic would be Firebird’s combustion proc:

Rimeheart proc: 10000% wpn dmg (cold) on hit, chance 20%, icd
Combustion: 3000% wpn damage (as fire) on hit with fire skill (x50 @ full stacks)

Now, let’s ignore proc chances and icd on Rimeheart for a moment - assuming it works exactly as Firebird would. Hitting an enemy with cold damage procs Rimeheart. As simple as that. Even then Firebird would still be 15 (!) times stronger.

And now imagine that with a 20% chance to proc and the internal cooldown which will cause the hitrate to drop to about 1 times every few seconds. Firebird easily deals some hundreds times the damage. That’s how bad Rimeheart is. Manald Heal isn’t that bad, since it can trigger at a way higher rate compared to Rimeheart, but it’s still really meh when you have Firebird as the benchmark.

To make items like Rimeheart useful they would need to completely change how it works. The damage has to scale. For example, if the effect worked in a way similar to this, with some restrictions on top - but without icd:

RIMEHEART:
+40-50% to cold damage
Cold damage dealt to frozen or chilled enemies has a chance to repeat N times.

Then the item could see some use.

It’s rimeheart. It’s a steaming pile. If they wanted to tweak it, something like “chilled enemies take 100% more damage, and Frozen enemies take 250%”, or something.

yep, i was doing my math genious thing and calculations and i got something like this for a DMO Magic Missile cold rune vs Rimeheart

1 Magic Missile cast = 1.6 Trillion
1 Rimeheart proc = 20 Billion

Time to change the weapon proc to something besides “turns into 1 Forgotten Soul”.

There are many items in this game that are bad and this item is just one of them. Then the rest of the items were only made for cometic show and nothing els.

But it could be 3 or maybe even 15 Forgotten Souls…just saying.
