Request for D4 to have customizable UI

I’d like the option to have a customizable UI in D4. I prefer minimalistic UI’s showing the bare minimum needed. Can this be implemented or would you guys care more about having a specific look to your user interface?

If you don’t want to implement customizable UI options could we mod the UI for the next game? The UI for Diablo 3 has really been an eye sore for me since release and I never got to change it.

On wow my UI consists of my energy/mana/combo points on a bar with no health bar visible or action bars visible I just hide everything and if I need something on one of the bars I just highlight the bars to show them. All of my abilities are bound to 1-6 on my keyboard and on my MOBA mouse with shift click’s on the same buttons for different abilities. So honestly I really never need to see my action bars at all.

I mostly just heal when my screen gets red on the edges or if I feel like I took too many hits or too much damage too quickly. I don’t really look at my health bar or in Diablo 3’s case on hardcore I don’t look at it at all. I’d prefer it not to be there personally. The screen edge effects for damage taken really do away with the need to see your health, for me at least.

So in short I’m trying to make the case for a minimal user interface. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I sure hope they don’t, ARPGs aren’t MMOs

No, it needs to look and feel like Diablo 3.

I hope people are being sarcastic.

Yeah, D4 should have a customizable UI, if for no other reason than some of us prefer to have our UI elements in other places of the screen.

I don’t understand why people want less freedom. It’s the same people that don’t want us to have an offline option for LAN gaming. It’s really a betrayal to the games roots. I’d personally like to have an offline mode so I can play hardcore non competitively before seasons are introduced. I’d most likely play online to compete with other’s of the same class during seasons.

Oh stop it. The games roots. Much of the game was was afterthought because Brevik didn’t want to do things or never thought of it. Always online to combat cheating wasn’t a thing. No one considered it back then. I am an advocate of a private mode, for those wanting not to be apart of a shared world.

I’m sorry you don’t like facts man but the truth is the truth.

Brevik had no intention to add MP. He viewed it as a solo experience. Blizzard Irvine insisted he put in MP code. The roots of Diablo was a turn based single player game. Those are the facts. MP, and real time combat were never considered until the guys everyone loves to hate on said do it.

I don’t know why you keep bringing up someone not apart of the company. It doesn’t do you any good. Seems like you’re trying to make a case that’s requires circular logic to be believed. Much like religious people trying to prove their gods. The bottom line is the final product for d1 and d2 are exactly the roots of the game franchise that so many beloved. While three sold well the community dipped out hella fast.

That’s just how things are nowadays. There’s far more competition these days than back in 2000.

While I will agree with you the market is spread thin by so many options it doesn’t mean a compelling game can’t last. PoE is a free to play game and is constantly innovating and making a better game for the most part. If you have a fun gameplay loop people will be inclined to play for more than a week. But if you lack a fun and addicting gameplay loop people will get bored because of the lack of engagement and dopamine hits.

Counter Strike is another example of a game that’s been out for a long time and still has a persistent playerbase between 600-700k with spikes into the millions despite being an old game.

Good games will retain their players. Bad games will hemorrhage players. Take for example Diablo 3 and Halo reach. Halo reach just came out on PC and at it’s peak had nearly 200k but because they released a poor port its between 5-15k players max. Now for Diablo 3 go check out the reddit page to see how many people come by to look for Diablo news. There was supposedly 30m sales for Diablo 3 and yet there’s only 668 people on reddit reading about Diablo. Counter strike has 6.5k currently reading about it. Both CSGO and Diablo 3 released in the same year for perspective.

You’re talking about different kinds of games though.

PoE is a Diablo-type game, but it’s business model was always similar to MMO’s with new content being added regularly. D3 was never designed like that, it was designed to be like D2.

CS is a competitive PvP game, that’s a different beast altogether.

I also honestly wouldn’t put much value on the numbers of reddit users. Games that receive regular updates have something to talk about. Games that barely get updates not so much. Just take a look at other reddits for games that were super popular like The Last of Us or Spider-Man.

False the RMAH was supposed to generate constant income for blizzard and pay for future content much like how Overwatch handled content prior to the PVE dlc they’re releasing because the game is dying aka not generating enough money for them. But once blizzard was forced to shut down their money laundering scheme from the RMAH they refused to make anymore content for the game and slowly drip fed the community assets that were half baked and began working on another Diablo sequel to constantly generate revenue. There’s been at least two canceled Diablo projects since D3’s launch.

That’s why Diablo 4 and the mobile game will have MTX to constantly siphon wealth from their fans.

And to be transparent I have advocated for MTX to use whales to pay for the communities continual content updates. But so far they haven’t announced their MTX ideas or if the content will be free to the community yet. So far I’m disappointed with their lack of communication. I should also note that they censored that post twice so a lot of stuff has been gutted from it.

And PoE sees the same amount of activity spikes and dips immediately after new content that D3 does. A point lost on a few.

How do you prove that? Does Diablo release concurrent users for seasons? Does PoE do the same? It’s an interesting assumption to make and requires some evidence. The people that I know that play PoE do it seemingly religiously. I personally can’t stand the game and don’t know how others find enjoyment in it but I guess that’s just me. I prefer to play an Action Role Playing Game. You know where you have a role that you’re playing instead of making up who you are on the fly.

Nothing official but somone posted traffic estimates that led that poster to assume anywhere between 200k-300k as the seasons start.

As for PoE, GGG did a speech at a recent GDC and showed that they explode at new leagues then quickly drop off. They were as high as 1M at one point IIRC, but again a couple weeks later activity falls greatly. This is just a trend with seasonal structured games. People get in early do their thing, then leave until something new comes along. Only the diehards stick around constantly.

Gone are the old days where you log in daily and play for hours every day all the time.

I totally agree, there is no reason why Blizzard could not make D4’s UI be customizable. Meaning they provide the in game tools like SWTOR does. No player made all controlled by the game.

I honestly don’t see why they wouldn’t give you the freedom to modify their UI within the parameters they lay out. I’d like to remove the map and console friendly arrow pointing the way and actually explore the game again.

I’d also like to remove the action bar and health/resource bar from my screen to remove clutter.

I really do prefer to have next to nothing on my screen and be immersed in the game I’m playing. One of the things that breaks that for me in WoW is the stupid world quest system with random talking heads popping up telling you what to do. It’s why I quit retail and went to classic. I don’t need an on rails experience saying “if you look to your left you’ll see a quest and to your right another quest”
I can think for myself and don’t need to be told what to do.
