This will change pvp, making it easier to tele-stomp, cast skills such as blizzard farther etc. Anyone half serious about pvp that does fpk would have to buy an ultra wide monitor. Sure if you’re just running in random pubs with a charger or meme build it won’t matter as much.
Lmao imagine playing PVP against this person. (32:9 ratio footage)
And yeah , mobs on the sides of the screen just sit there doing nothing. Blizz sorc or trapsin easy mode.
Hum … may be …
-
Auto match players with same screen ratio
-
Force all party members in a same game to use same screen ratio.
Hope that it will help
I know a lot of people love the blood moor, but maybe d2 needs dedicated pvp arena games that have some of the more absurd ratios disabled.
I dunno, I pvp a fair bit and I feel pvp might be on very thin ice right now.
There are valid arguments from both sides of the spectrum, therefore I propose a set of solutions to the extended screen range issue, with respect to ideas already mentioned above (feel free to find fault, correct, or add ideas to the list):
- Let players decide the rule of combat beforehand (i.e., enforce aspect ratio, or allow any ratio),
- Optionally: the host sets the rule of combat,
- Alternatively: Any player who enables PVP automatically gets restricted to the aspect ratio of the lowest ratio between the players for the duration of the event,
- In addition to the above, hovering over the player’s avatar shows their aspect ratio,
- Allow non-PVP players to play in any aspect ratio.
Giving players options might be the best move forward because it is the players who shape the game, have different opinions and playstyles. Rather than a strong handed approach, could we not find a happy medium by allowing choices? The honorable may want a fair game, while casual players may not care as much and just want to have fun.
For argument sake against my own solutions, would giving the players these options be too detrimental to the PVP scene?
I think a fog of war for the radius in which you can see and click other players would be a pretty decent solution.
It might be interesting to involve light radius in some way, but… meh… just make it fair or better yet make an arena about the size of bloodmoore where you can control for PVP issues related to new advantages brought by the new rendering engine
Gheeds Arena with proper pvp betting (gold only - only for the lulz)
that is so broken xD
Agree 100% with DHA , this is game breaking and scary for the end game (pvp)
Yeah… that’s not good at all
There definitely needs to be some sort of limit to what you can see on the screen, regardless of the resolution you are playing. PVP - obviously this is absolutely game breaking for the high-level pvp community, maybe not so much for public duels or whatever but still.
DHA and others have made the points clear, so I do not see a reason to reiterate them. Instead to make the point, this is a random vid of DHA on barb in coordinated team duels back in 2012: Diablo II - Some fpk on barb - YouTube (just pulled this off the jsp vid collection list as an example)
Even just watching the first two rounds in the video, you can imagine how having different teleport distances (even if that distance is fixed for all players) can completely change how the game is played. A lot of these guys have been playing d2 pvp for well over 15 years, and its a big deal to us. (Sadly, I will admit lol)
However, even in PVM you can see mobs wont react until you reach just outside the original 800x600 res aspect, but the majority of skills in the game will traveller farther than that distance (or even further than your map goes for skills like bone spirit or guided arrow) allowing you to pick off the enemies without them even reacting. Thus youde either need to be okay with cheesing the game or re-coding the monsters to react at different distances, both of which change the core game. And if nothing else, its been clear that this is something the devs are against.
On a side note, its fantastic to see some of the core “bugs” which have become pvp staple mechanics like weapon-switch glitch, “c/t” (further) casting, and skill-bugging (i think the pvm streamers call this “swap-casting” for some reason? probably just didnt know this was widely used even 15 years ago lol) still working. That honestly has given us a lot of hope that this game can be good, and will further extend the life of something we thought was basically (well, relatively at least) dead for the last 5-8 years!
They dont change anything, trust be. Again, in 2021 Games should support 21:9. Maybe we should play in 4:3 because 16:9 has advantages compared to 4:3, too ;).
Its not the fault of Ultra Wide players when you live in a cave (in terms of hardware) in 2021 ;).
Problem here: Diablo 2 PvP is only that important because D2 lacks hard of a real endgame content.
Building efficiency is D2’s endgame content. I would argue it’s better endgame than 99% of Arpgs, even the ones with “new” content every 3 months.
Stop being delusional it is more than obvious it’ll get fixed.
how you so sure about that?
Lol. It doesnt got fixed because there is no problem o_0. Diablo 2 is NOT announced as a PvP “only” game. PvP is a additive for D2. Lets bet, that game will support ultrawide like now in the alpha becaus there is NO Problem.
Its more then obsvious that Ultawide will dont get a “nerf” in 2021.
You don’t play pvp, it doesnt mean there is no pvp and there is no pvp community.
There is and it’s strong. It’s those guys that kept playing d2 for 15+ years and mastered pvp to an art
And from US East, US West, Europe and Asia. There is pvpers, there was pvpers. Clans, tournaments, GM rules, GM 1vs1, 4vs4.
And this Is not 10 ppl thats hundreds.
If you think it’s pvmers that kept d2 alive for 20 years, you are delusional.
Nobody talk about nerf or what ever but playing with a view from the Moon is obviously stupid and game breaking for both PvP and PvM.
If you don’t understand, it’s not my problem.
Because there is no game on the market that would allow huge adventage just because someone can afford expensive monitor.
That’s a common logic and Blizzard never made a game that would allow something like this.
I mean can you imagine playing WoW or SC where you can see twice as much as your opponents? PvE or PvP it doesn’t matter it’s just wrong.
Don’t get me wrong im full for ultra-wide support as long as it doesn’t do this.
I dont play PvP? I play PvP in Diablo 2. But please, dont live in the year 2001 anymore.
