Regular Gem Bag

As we all know, stash slots and items slots on the characters are scarce at times. One thing I think would be a nice solution to this would be a special "bag" or button and menu for regular gems. Not the legendary, but just the regular. Logically, a gem is smaller than a coin. We can carry billions of coins, but only so many gems? So we obviously have a magical coin bag.

Why not a menu that lists all the sizes and types in a grid. Then just a count of how many you have. It would let a person hold onto as many as they want and frees up both slots on the characters and in the stash. Also, when doing things like the evil land of horned horses, it would mean less trips to town because the drops of two different cuts of gems would not load up your slots as quick.

Another advantage would be when swapping sets. Right now, you swap and your inventory gets flooded with all the gems that get removed. Now you have to put things back just to get the slots back. If you have 2 or 3 types of gems on a character, that can add up. Head, prime, and weapon may all be different. And if you like resist or vitality, all 5 might be there. But if they popped off and went to a gem storage bag, that would be a lot less of a pain in the anatomy.

Due to the leveling aspect, legendary would not be there. Still, it would mean a ton of bank slots and inventory slots back for what I feel is a reasonable change.

I’d be fine with getting gems out of our stash.

It is amusing how a little gem takes up the same amount space as a belt or half the space of a weapon. It was really annoying in D2 since gems didn’t stack. It think it would be a nice QoL change.

Would be nice to pull them out plus would mean i wouldn’t sell the lowest level gems when leveling. Would be nice to gain the 15 slots (Marq, Imp and F. Royal for each).

I like this idea! Hope it catches on. :+1:

Gems could be included in the materials tab.
We only need them to do for marquise, imperial and royal flawless qualities, only 15 types.

I’m sorry to say, but this would be incredibly difficult to implement. You would have 50 different types of gems to add.

For example:

Amethyst, Flawless Amethyst, Square Amethyst, Flawless Square Amethyst, Star Amethyst, Marquise Amethyst, Imperial Amethyst, Flawless Imperial Amethyst, Royal Amethyst, Flawless Royal Amethyst

That’s 10, then you have 10 for diamond, emerald, ruby, topaz (50)

And why do you think that is hard? Look at the number of items in other menus. The grid would not be tiny, I admit that. But make the longest side into tall. It is not that much after that. Also, I am not certain that gems are individual items, like everything else is. I can move a regular gem from one person to another, and still not break my armory slots. So the underlying code for them being generic is already there. It is just a slightly different way of organizing them.

Once you’ve reached level 61 and marquise gems start dropping, nobody’s interested in gems of lower ranks than that, so this proposed grid system would have 35 squares for gems that nobody wants.

Of course gems take up a lot of space cuz they’re huge you stack them 5000 of each. If anything rings and ammy’s take more space as you can only have one item per slot.

I’d rather get the extra stash tabs.

Yes, but you want a uniform system. It is 10 cuts of 5 types of gems. So a 5x10 grid. The bank is a 7 wide by 10 tall grid. So basically, 2 narrower than the bank. It would come out like the pane for details or the crafting stuff that is not inventory items. This would give you drag and drop or however the console selects without too much space or difficulty. When I looked at the number of gems, etc. I found it to be smaller than I expected. The bank makes for a nice, visual reference.

Personally, I think the deluxe version should have 2 extra tabs. Everything else in there is worthless as far as I can tell. And that would make them more money than giving us a gem bag. I just think the gem bag also addresses some other issues, like when gems get removed forcibly and dumped in your inventory because you swapped gear.

I don’t want a system where at least 50% of it is permanently wasted space.

It all comes down to storage management. When you have played games wirh storage problems for a long time you get really good at it. I make a different toon for each build I am running. 1 WOL monk and 1 Zdps. I keep 1 extra piece of armor for each in their inventory until I get ready to play that toon and then I put it in the stash. After playing I put it back in their inventory before logging out. I crush any thing that is not an upgrade for the toon I am playing. With as much stuff that drops items are easily replaced. I also upgrade my gems a lot. No worries about gold as it rains from the sky when wearing a set of gold find gear while running keys. My stash is almost always empty except when farming paragon at that time I will throw items in storage for later inspection.

i lose 10 slots in my carried inventory, just for 2x5 gems…
i asked for this years ago
good to propose it each few months

Not you as a person, but the generic you as in the people making it as programmers. Now, another possibility would be like RUNtoFUN has suggested. Just make it 2x5 for gems. Then it would just be an inventory system that only takes gems. That would at least allow you to populate it with the most dropped gems. Still some issues, but much better than what it is.

@Lystell Yes, but when people are still working towards sets, etc. the management here is more like, make one toon, get it 100% perfected, then finally try another. But they make the achievements, etc. around trying them all. Also, you don’t know what you like until you play with them all at 70 and have some idea of the set gear. This makes two philosophies that are in opposition until you get to where you are past the need for experimenting with most of the items and classes.

I play a different toon each season this season was wiz, next is Necro. No achievements left for me to do other than look for gear and get the cosmetic from season. As I said before, been playing the Diablo franchise for a long time. Really wish there was more to do in the game.

I get why they wont add them to the currency tab, but this would nice.

It would give us 15 stash cubes back.
