Reforge Qualifier & Focus

{Posted on PTR…Sorry, needs to be here}

Please make a “program qualifier” that provides the following results: When Reforging a PRIMAL it will STAY a primal & RNG all aspects including the Bonus Stat. *NOTE: Don’t make us pay 2x as much or make it way difficult to accomplish this task; just keep it simple & add the program qualifier.

With regard to Focus & Restraint Procs; When a DH uses “Action Shot” (and other Classes similar runes) it should Proc Focus. You ARE shooting…

I agree that re-forging a primal to a fresh one would be of considerable benefit to everyone, but I do believe that it needs to have a hefty cost associated with it.

A perfect primal should be hard to get.

Something like a new material we get from salvaging other primals could work. Perhaps 3-5 salvaged primals, would give enough for a single primal reforge, on top of the current “Reforge Legendary” materials requirement.

Yeah, you are right. It doesn’t make sense the way the tooltip is written. It’s misleading for DH’s. I don’t think any other class would suffer from this as they do not have a dual resource system, which is why it doesn’t work. Vault is also a unique skill in that it is the only one that can do damage by using Discipline, instead of Hatred.
(iirc, haven’t DH’d in a while)

It shouldn’t really matter though, unless you are using the UE/Grenades build, only DH build I can think of, that wouldn’t use a spender.

It should read “spending primary resource”

Though, I wouldn’t complain if this worked. I mean, either update the description, or allow Vault to proc the spender portion of F/R.

I think we should be able to re roll primals but it should coast a lot like a whole lot. Getting a perfect rolled primal should be very difficult.

It is hard enough to just GET a primal, let alone require several for reforge. Like any reforge it will take a LOT of materials to get the perfect one. Take the Condemn Crusaders Shield for example; SO many aspects must be on target for viability to push GR’s.
I recommended this option for Quality of Life gameplay, as most are casual gamers not ABLE to put in hundreds of hours in a season. Just GETTING the proper primal in the first place is a RNG chore, so lets have a way to make it better without breaking the bank or our spirits.

Is it though? To get a good primal yes, I have only found maybe 10 I would actually use since their introduction. (Don’t look at my stupidly lucky male Sader’s shield)

Primals in general? I’ve gotten about 20 of them this season. Useless junk for the most part. Just thought we could use these annoying drops for something actually usefull. Forgotten Souls just doesn’t cut it imo.

Agreed, but then what does a casual player need primals for? A well rolled ancient can be just about as good. I can honestly say, the 2 primals my seasonal monk has, have not really given me an edge over the ancients I replaced. It’s a means to an end.

If it was too easy to get, I feel it would ruin their awesomness somewhat. Its pretty much the only prestige left in the game.

Say a player after forever finally gets the Primal Yang’s they have been looking for. Unfortunately, it didn’t roll discipline and rolled 2 other bad affixes. It is bad enough the player is punished because of poor design by having to re-roll that primal to get the proper affixes, but, on top of that, being greatly punished by having to pay “a hefty cost” on top of it to fix it.

A primal that you need should be a boon when found, not a bad trolling job. It should cost the same it costs to reforge anything else and maintain its tier.

Fair enough, i guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this then. But perhaps hefty was the wrong word to use.

We’ve all experienced this, though I still think it should have an added cost to it.

Like I said earlier, even a new material that you get from scrapping primals makes the price steep enough, on top of current reforging costs. They are rare enough that you won’t be reforging like crazy, but not so steep that it’s not worth even trying.

I think you are not taking into consideration just how much RNG this removes. Not only would you keep your primal, but the only randomness left is the affixes. Its not like you’re going to get bad rolls.

Tbh, I’d love a similar option for ancients as well.

Which reminds me (off topic)

@Blizz: Please oh please give us a new pair of generic pants that have elemental damage. Just some QOL for us LoN/LoD folk, so we don’t have to level a WD every season if we don’t intend on playing as one.

Actually I am. I play mostly UE dh and sometimes htooth/chicken doc. Primals have been around for like what 7-8 seasons or more. I have put in around 1000 hours on dh and have gotten 1 primal Yangs. That is rerolling hundreds with the cube and finding hundreds and hundreds in the game. Mine rolled ok. It had 2 affixes I didn’t want, one being no discipline on the secondary. That was a must reroll.

It is around 1:450 chance to get a primal. With cube reforge that is 2250 of each bounty mat and 22,500 souls if you get it in 450. Even if you get one, and had the ability to reroll it with it staying primal, it may take 1 or 100s or 1000s of rerolls to get the affixes you want with standard reroll costs.

The rng to get one you need is already huge, then you would deal with rng of getting it the way you want it. No extra reforge cost is necessary in my opinion, as most players have put in a ton of time already just to get the primals they want.

Salvaging a primal should not just result in forgotten souls. Why not allow re-rolling primals by making the salvaged primals produce mats that can be used to re-roll primals? Then we can salvage primals we don’t need to re-roll a primal with the mats from the salvaged primals. And it should not be like reforging but more like enchanting wherein we can choose the affix we don’t want to re-roll the affix we do want.

Agreed, but we are talking about reforging primals to new primals.

Most of the RNG involved here has already passed, and has no effect on what is to come next.

In the case of Yangs, you have 4 garuanteed affixes.

  1. Dmg range
  2. Dex
  3. Massive RCR
  4. Legendary power.

You only need 3 random rolls to be optimal.

  1. 10% Damage
  2. 7% IAS
  3. 12 Disc

With re-rolling, this brings it down to 2.

The only RNG left is in these 2 random affixes, and their rolls will be 100% maxed every time.

That’s too much RNG?

Yes pls let us reforge primal to primal with primal materials

Only this way I would even consider it. Otherwise, just no. Game is to much dumbed down allready.

Good Ancient is almost like the primal, this don’t let you do more lv gr, maybe +0lv GR with 13primals vs 13ancient with the same stats. But primals give a visual sodisfaction, like you have completed this gear equip and there are so many items for all classes that is impossible achieve all primals also with reforge option, so is only a QoL.

So pls delete this frustating sensation when we find a useful primal with bad stats and we put it in stash hoping in a future QoL patch.

If complete a build with full primal equipment I am encouraged to use other classes and other builds. Don’t be afraid to lose players once they have completed a character, and perhaps you will encourage more players to continue, obviously players who love that sense of perfectionism and end game gear.

And instead of the optimal primaries you might get:

CDR
life regen
socket
area damage
damage to elites
RCR
chance to bleed
vit

secondaries:
Life on kill
xp gain on monster kill
indestructible
level requirement reduced
chance to fear
chance to stun
chance to blind
chance to freeze
chance to chill
chance to immobilize
chance to knockback

so, ya that is a lot of rng and chance to roll poorly on a reforge. This doesn’t even take into account if the rolls are weighted. We have no idea of knowing if chance to knockback occurs twice as often as discipline.

Unless you hit the lottery, it will take a long, long time to get the primal you want. After suffering though all that rng, the chances your primal will roll with
non-optimal is huge. Now you will be face will even more rng to try to reforge the non-optimal Primal to a optimal primal. Now, after you have gone through all of this, you only have 1 optimal primal out of 13 slots you can have a primal for only 1 build out of 1 of the 7 classes, so no, I do not believe players need to be further punished by having to farm additional difficult to get materials in order to get 1 primal finally rolled optimally.

What would be punishment is when you hit the lottery and get that primal early in the season for your build, except it rolled horribly. You then spend the rest of the season farming for primals just to salvage them, so you can reforge that primal you got at the start of the season. After most the season is gone, and with 50-100 primal reforges, you still have that horrible rolled primal. Many players are going to be in rage quit mode after this. It is going to happen, and it is going to happen a lot. 50-100 reforges is nothing. I have gone 50 reforges without getting an ancient, much less rolls I wanted on a something.

Just keep the primal tier level when reforging as is. Might get it the first try, might be #50 or #100, but won’t be even close to as punishing as having to farm primals to get those 50 or 100 reforges.

As I said earlier, we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this, looks like neither of us is going to convince the other.

But it does expose the underlying question… How much RNG is too much RNG?

But that’s a conversation for another thread. :beers:
