Re-Rolling question

A crossbow dropped on a DH, and it came with Dex on it, as it should.

I wanted to use it on my Monk’s follower (scoundrel). Picked it up on my monk and took it Myriam to try to maximize the Dex on it.

When rerolling it with a monk why is it constantly rolling Intelligence?

982 dex is nearly maximum. Why you want more dex?

And why do you not maximize it with your dh? Was it a gift from someone?

To get the follower to 25,000. But that’s not related to the question; it could have been 825.

I’m currently logged into/playing the monk, where the follower who’s going to use it is. Both are Dex users, neither should be producing Int on rerolls as far as I understand it.

Get similar on DH when you have a Sunkeeper (1 handed mace) which rolls intelligence. Echoing Fury did the same too.

One of those curiosities where the item isn’t part of the characters loot table so it can roll dex or int. It’s curious to me because it doesn’t roll strength.

(Also, if you’re needing to hit 25k, throw a Dex augment on the weapon, that’ll tip it over!)

No strength user can equip crossbows, I would imagine that’s the reason.

is it rerolling dex and intel? i see you have dex rerolled in the screenshot
maybe im losing it

They haven’t applied the intelligence results. Why pick a stat you can’t use? So they kept picking the original stat value.

But I’m with Zurtle. Throw a Dex augment on it and be done with it. Or use a DH to re-roll the stat.

the guardian set works on followers. 2 items and a rorg and 25k. boom

You’ve already rolled dex on it using your DH presumably, why not just use your DH to keep rerolling to maximise the dex?

As to your query, sounds like a bug.

that thought pattern was related to the 1-handed mace rather than a bow but yes, I could’ve been clearer around that.

Only Demon Hunters and Witch Doctors can wield bows. They are both guaranteed (through the Smart Loot system) to roll their respective class-specific main stat on bows. Witch Doctors will get INT. Demon Hunters will get DEX.

But… you rerolled the bow with a monk, and monks cannot equip bows. Therefore, you don’t get the class-specific guarantee. Consequently, the game chose an appropriate stat for the bow based on the classes that can wield a bow.

Unfortunately for you, the RNG rolled INT a few times (but could have rolled DEX just as easily) and you were left with your dilemma.

Ahhh, so the Monk was the monkey in the riddle

Seems that it situation appears due to monks and str classes can’t using this type but int classes can. I think item can randomly roll Dex but better to roll it with DH.

To answer some questions.

The rolled dex is the original Dex that came with the drop. While rerolling, the Int kept appearing so I would just keep selecting the original Dex.

I was rolling on my monk because that’s what I was playing at the time. Also, I never planed to equip it on the monk. It was for the scoundrel follower.

This wasn’t an situation of a few rolls of Int. Every main stat appearance was Int, about 8 times before I stopped to post here.

A while later I dropped and remade the game. Once back on the monk the crossbow rolled Dex only like expected, no Ints for the entire reroll session. And since I’ve never seen this happen on any class/character before, I assume it just glitched out.

Zarkano has the most likely answer. You got multiple flips of the same side of the stat coin in both game sessions: all INT for the first session, then all DEX for the second session.

There is also one more piece of the puzzle we don’t know: In the first game, were you in a party at any point, and if so, was it someone else that made the game? If so and they were an INT specific class, it’s quite likely the server chose that stat as the priority since bows and crossbows can be equipped on a witch doctor. D3’s stat rolling system is one of its odder quirks. When you remade the game, it reverted to the main stat priority of the lead character, your monk. In any case, welcome to stat voodoo 101. Next time save yourself a headache and do as others above have advised - reroll the stat using the class that the item is meant for. That will guarantee proper mainstat rolling.

So far, all groups I’ve been in, I’ve made.

The item’s history is:

  • Dropped on the DH (as expected)
  • Stashed it for a Monk that I would make later in the season
  • Later in the season (many remakes), made a Monk
  • Grabbed from stash, placed on scoundrel
  • Many Monk games later (many remakes), took all items off scoundrel to reroll the Dex to near max (that was yesterday)
  • Rolled all items, all of which could be equipped on any class, all rerolled Dex, except for the crossbow which rolled Int everytime.
  • Remade game, crossbow rerolled Dex everytime

Thus, there were many remakes between the drop and the rerolls.

Most seasons I make a “roller” char to change the main stat on items. For example, both this and last season I created a Str char to change items, which dropped on my Wiz, to Str for the templar follower. Many of which could be equipped by any class (Occulus, Flavor, Goldskin, RoRG, etc). However, never in any season/character/situation have I ever seen a character reroll a mainstat that isn’t their own.

I’m fairly convinced it was a one-off bug based off the remake changing 100% Int rerolls to 100% Dex rerolls. Plus, my never having seen this in all the rerolls I’ve done in this game ever.
