Ranking Pet Builds

How do the pet builds rank from best to worst?

The maxroll tierlists are mostly accurate. https://maxroll.gg/d3/category/tierlists
There will always be some subjective calls, and everyone (including me) will have hot takes on build that should be higher or lower, but overall it’s a great starting point.

Unfortunately, they are all pretty much useless save for the Necro Blood Nova Simulacrum (sp) build and the WD Poison Dart Build with Fetishes. Those 2 builds get a bit boring after a while, IMHO.

Now if you just want to have fun, I would suggest the WD gargantuan build with the Helltooth set. If you like pets, again just for fun, add fetishes and zombie dogs, even if the set really doesn’t buff them. Well, I think it does buff the dogs. Just running around using acid storm and/wall of fire and watching the pets kill stuff is hilarious. I just wish it was a bit stronger so I can do speed 90’s. But at least its good enough to tear up T16.

I suppose it depends on how you define a Pet Build. Is it a Pet if it doesn’t move?
Both Typhon and Marauder are technically Pet Builds in that Hydras and Sentries benefit from the Enforcer gem and they are quite strong, though not top tier.

edit: I still don’t understand why they removed Pet status from Phantasms. It’s not like WDs have too much power.
Mundunugu set could have been very good.

According Maxroll’s tier list for season 32, Akkhan is S Tier pet build, Marauder and Zunimassa are A Tier builds, LoD monk - B Tier. But judging by the seasonal leaderboards Marauder is the best pet build ( Gr 150 2.15 min ), then Zuni ( 2.46 ), and LoD monk ( 3.23 ). Akkhan has only 4.50 min.

I think we’ve answered which the best pet builds are. Now, perhaps more interesting, which are the very worst pet builds?? As in, pet skills that cannot be made strong as main dps with any gear setup or supporting skills. Are there any that can’t clear T16?

WD will have some pretty weak ones I guess, and maybe if mirror image counts…

necros sim isnt a Pet, WD dagger of darts is and so is gargs and such

it was over powered into stupidity thats why they had to remove spirit barrage as pets to nerf it… for instance, you could 1shot the 150 rift guardian in 2player with 2 stacked phantasms. thats how strong it was. it is still a very strong WD build

Were you talking about Season or Non-Season? For Season 32, refer to this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo3/comments/1fw0qdx/s32_adjusted_clears_by_set_week_12/

The quick answer is:

DH - Marauder
Crusader - Akkhan
WD - Zunimassa (Darts)
Wiz - Typhon
WD - No Set (Darts)
WD - Arachyr
Monk - Inna

For a more authentic and less useful answer, let’s make the requirements a persistent and a mobile pet. Like a DH’s Sentry isn’t persistent or mobile, it can be autocast with Helltrapper, but good luck waiting around for turrets appear

Also, no other skill should be required to activate damage, like in the Akkhan example, there is a requirement to cast Judgment for Condemn. Condemn and its legendary effects are doing the lion share of damage as well, not Phalanx.

Where does that leave Inna’s 6pc bonus? You start off with 1 or 2 allies, but if you press any button you get 10 pets, and they become exponentially stronger, but they fade away.

While it yields no relevant information to help answer Justice’s question, the most fair comparison is this: you get to mash all 6 skills once at the start of the run, you then have to run through the map without pressing anything.

Example Builds:

  • Crusader’s LoD Phalanx, by themselves, are pretty bad – but they are a true pet, and made persistent with Eternal Union.

  • Demon Hunter’s Companions are persistent out of the box, and deal sad damage on LoD/LoN.

What combinations can you come up with?

Seeing a WD at the top of the rankings was weird for the developers, so 2 nerfs in a row (Phantasm was no longer pets and Gazing Demise) :joy:

Copied this over to the new player section, since more appropriate.

To Orcinus:

Monk Inna Mystic Ally is probably the easiest pet build, tough and fast enough, perfect for most cases ( excluding high Greater Rifts ), but its pets aren’t exactly “permanent” - you have to push the pet button from time to time to do more damage.
