Have the three Prime Evils always supported each other or have they ever opposed one another.
How did Diablo end up as the big bad demon. Is he really more powerful than his two brothers.

It clearly states they would pit battles and aggression against and amongst themselves.
For the most part, they always supported one another. The only known exceptions is whenever they’re pit against one another, usually Diablo and Baal, as it’s usually done by Mephisto’s scheming. Followed by one of the Eternal Conflict battles that happened right at Heaven’s Gate, which seemed would end with Hell’s Victory. However then either Diablo turned on the other great evils, and/or all the great evils began fighting one another over the spoils which ended getting them repelled from the High Heavens.
Beyond that however, I would say that the Prime Evils work well most of the time, in fact I’d even argue that their unity is on par, if not greater, with that of the Angiris Council. However, the events of Diablo 3 (and RoS) may have had consequences on the relationship of the Prime Evils and Greater Evils, since they were used by Diablo in order to become The Singular Prime Evil, we know at the very least that Mephisto, Azmodan, and Andariel weren’t pleased with the idea. Baal and Duriel didn’t seemed to mind, but since Diablo was struck down, that may no longer be the case, especially since all the great evils managed to separate themselves from Diablo.
Diablo was likely always considered the big bad, since even the dawn of the Eternal Conflict. He is considered by Mephisto to be the Harbinger of the Prime Evils, the strongest of all the Great Evils by Cain, and the worst of the Prime Evils by Tyrael. As for whether he truly is the strongest, we likely won’t ever know unless events in D4 actually unveil such information to us. That said, despite Diablo’s might, it is Mephisto who usually leads the Prime Evils and by extension, Hell itself.
no the prime evils have never opposed each other, and because they each have unique powers they rely on each other to open pathways towards achieving their goal that they couldn’t do so alone. Any mention of the brothers opposing each other was just a ruse, a plan to achieve dominance. When the prime evils rule all worlds, then they will finally oppose each other.
Diablo is not the “strongest” in power, they have equal power but not the same powers. If we’re talking brute physical power then Diablo is the strongest.
In human lore Diablo is certainly the most powerful, but in Diablo game lore Diablo isnt really the son of god turned fallen angel. They really got weird with the God lore, so it’s pretty bad lore when the game is named after the son of God devil and yet they made god sort of a weird dragon spirit thingy that spit out evil instead of a god that created angels and one rebelled and became diablo. The crossover started in D3 and got really bad i wish they actually cared about the writing and kept it closer to the original idea with religion and the devil.
Well it is of course not really a lore reason, but in the end he is the big bad, because that was the name that struck Brevik or one of those brothers with inspiration when they had to name their lead monster for D1.
