Question about the Gem of Ease

So is it even worth using after roughly 600 Paragon? I’ve only been able to level mine up to 72 and it only gives 9,000+ Experience. But since I need roughly tens of millions of Experience to level by then, why bother?

Gem of ease is meant to be used for leveling alts. The level 25 bonus is also a big bonus if you want to level your alts solo.

It is used for self leveling 1-70 and for powerleveling others.

It has no practical use once you hit level 70, other than for augmenting.

If you DO decide to use it for an augment, make sure you add the proper gems in with it, or it will use another recipe to remove the level requirement from your item, and waste your gem.

This is PER kill. So yea, it helps. All-be-it, probably not as much from doing higher levels with a damage dealing gem because when you equip that, it’s also a minor nerf to your GR level… What i’ve always though it as. Run GR35’s and get it to level 25 and remove the level requirement from a universal weapon and armor and you can then level up from 1 to 70 at T6 in only a couple Rift Runs. That’s about the extent of it, imo.

Its also added to the BASE XP (if i remember the xp formula) the monster is worth so this is before multipliers. Its not a “bad” boost but as stated, used far more with leveling alts. which is the main reason for the gem (losing the crit from the weapon for a small increase in XP isn’t worth it).

Mainly people level multiple GoE’s to 25 and use the cube to remove the level requirement on level 70 gear so an alt can level extremely quick on T6.
Those that use the GoE for augmenting are playing with fire and really as a PSA, dont use the GoE for the Despair Augment. 1 mistake in the cube will cost you your gem and you will most likely post in the bug report forums that the augment didn’t work and you lost your gem. ANY other gem will give a transmute fail if you mess up the recipe but using a GoE will not since the reduce level requirement only requires the GoE (recipe page DOES NOT MATTER)

It’s not worth having it in your weapon if you need to deal damage. That 130% CHD that you get from an Emerald is too much to pass on. I do have a Gem of Ease that I would use on my zBarb on occasion because why not - it might add up to give me an extra level over time and it’s not like I need anything else socketed in that slot - but overall, it’s pretty useless.

The gem, as others have mentioned, is to rapidly level up new characters, as evident from its level 25 bonus of making any weapon its in to a level 1 char. With a high level gem of ease you can melt any enemies on low torment levels for new characters and get to level 60 in literally like 5-10 minutes. Level 60-70 takes a bit longer but usually no more than 30-60 minutes.

Let’s say for the sake of math you’ve leveled it up to 10,000 exp per kill.

And lets say you average 100 kills every 5 minutes (some higher on big kill bonuses some lower on downtime). That means if you play for 60 minutes you get:

60/5 = 12 x 100 = 1,200 x 10,000 = 12,000,000 bonus exp. Not including of course if you have a maxed red gem at 4.1% exp bonus and then I’m unsure if the multiple kill bonus exp is calculated too, such as, if you reach diabolical and get 4x if this becomes 48,000,000 bonus exp and then multiplied again by 4.1% and then even multiplied further by 5% if you have the Cain set. Anyone confirm that?

So yes - it helps - at the sacrifice of bonus damage. I would honestly prefer if Bliz added some more unique weapon legendary gems, but whatever.

I only use the GoE for plvling people.

HC plvling, as the leveler I wear it in my weapon and can plvl in 5-7 minutes anyone on T6.

Boon of Hoarder + Custerian Wristguards would probably net you more exp than using Gem of Ease.

Not really. In T6 the gold multiplier isn’t that large.

OP has to be doing more than T6 - that’s who I was referring to (not the alt leveling thing that was mentioned later).

Even then if I recall the XP bonus from the GoE is affected by the XP multiplier from the torment difficulty since its affecting base monster XP (might be mistaken as I haven’t looked at the xp formula in a while).
