Question about farmed Items

I am sorry, maybe this is a stupid question, but will the Items we have farmed allready in normal, classic LoD remain and move to “Ressurected” ?
Or do we need to farm everything once again? Complete new beginning?

From the videos and information given the D2 R realms are different and you wont be able to transfer existing chars to it.

Everyone will start out fresh on both ladder/seasons or non-ladder when the game goes live.

Thank you very much for the information! A pitty

I mean…did you think that through?
Why, oh why, would they let you transfer a character from a game from like 20 years ago? Do you know how much work that would require on their end?

Not trying to be rude my dude, but this is genuinely kind of a bad question. Glad you asked it, because I am sure hundreds of other people wondered that and are afraid to ask…So I guess there is that.

Do you? Game quite literaly runs mostly on same code. I’m assuming here you don’t work on the team that’s making the game, so implying that you do know anything about how hard it would be is incredibly arrogant.

And? Does that mean they can just simply transfer character from an outdated Battle.net system to a new thing? does that magically make millions of chracters magically appear in their new system? Does that mean they automatically have the systems in place to allow a smooth transfer?
I do not work on their team, but I am aware of the work required to accomplish what OP asked. I mean, I have only been working in Coding and Programming for 10 years…

But sure, it’s super arrogant of me, with ONLY 10 years experience, to assume such simple things.

Go be toxic somewhere else, unless you have some kind of valid point. Don’t bother responding, because you will be ignored by me from here out. HAve a good one dude, hopefully you figure out your real life issues that make you so damn toxic and rude to strangers.

Your 10 years of work means nothing when you don’t work on the project. You can’t even possibly have an idea of the work required to accomplish what OP asked while having absolutely no inside view on the project, yet you climb on your “10 years experience” like that gives you magical powers.

Nether of you know anything more than what is publicly announced.

While the base grid remains, the engine on top is changed. There are also changed to several other game features such as stash, item tags, item displays, etc.

Without working on the project none of us can say exactly what it would take to move the chars.

However - the issue is dealt with. Diablo 2 2000 and LOD will stay exactly as they are on Bnet. People can continue to play there. Nobody loses the software they bought or the chars they played (as long as they log in every 90 days).

If people want to play the new D2R they can buy that and play that with chars made in the current system on the current Bnet - which will have more security features.

I don’t think so, and I hope not. I love that this is a fresh start. I am excited to delve back in and build up various characters and find all the good items.

Well that was my whole point tbh, but thanks anyway.

Is this actually confirmed? I’m not really following it much besides what was said during Blizzconline. After the whole W3R debacle I’m not holding my breath waiting for blizzard to do the obvious right things.

Different teams working on different games.

yes, this was confirmed that this is a separate game and the original is not being affected. Of course, you never know what the future holds, but that is the stance now. I am excited for D2R, though I am happy they are leaving the original alone, because you never know, haha.

Yes. Naveed above me is correct.

D2 on old Bnet is staying exactly like it is. Good and bad aspects both.

D2R will have:

  • online play on Modern Bnet which keeps item and char saves server side. Modern Bnet anti cheat software will be implemented.
  • offline mode after you verify your game license online once. (and maybe every so often after?)
  • Modding ability although they have not explained how that will work or what the limits are.
  • No balance changes at D2R release
  • No PvP changes
  • No trade changes other than the ability to link items in trade chat so people can see stats and the ability to compare an item to what you are wearing. It won’t tell you which to wear, just show you stats for both.

Right now I get the impression the team knows what they are doing and are handling it well.

Yeah, I did hear about modding support of sorts and that got me off guard. Indeed it looks like they are doing it right this time around.

They even said something about making more data available in the game API for modders to use. To me that sounds like UI data display type mods such as the WoW addons that change game data display. WoW addons are written in a sandbox Blizz controls. If they allow those then they MIGHT even be usable online?

We have a lot to learn still about what the new modding will allow. I am just glad they are open to it. I honestly did not expect it.

I read an article on IGN where D2R’s Game Producer stated that some old D2 save files would carry over to D2R (on the PC). His quote was:

“Yes! Keep your old save files. Back when we were working on the remaster, we wondered if the old save files would work, so we kind of shoved it in and it worked. So, yes, your local single player save files will carry over.”

Yeah, just read that. Who would have thought that a game essentialy running on same code would easily have compatible saves?

But it’s just local. It makes sense to not just import over the whole online playerbase because of the rampant duping.
