Question about Caldesann’s Despair

Hi,

I need some explanation, if anybody can help. I’m using PS4, reached GR70 already.
I ranked up a few legendary gems aling with Pain Enhancer.
I had an ancient ring, so I put them together with 3 royal gems too.
After transmuting I can’t see

Critical hits cause the enemy to bleed for 5000% damage as Physical over 3 seconds.

information on the ring, only Caldesann’s Despair rank 50.
Does this mean that I didn’t get this value, or just not visible?

caldesans despair consumes the gem used to give the ancient item an enchantment

the pain enhancer was lvl 50 im guessing so you “used” the gem to get the enchantment

You can find some introduction of Caldesann’s Despair recipes in the game guide.

Using this recipe with 3 Flawless Royal Rubies will augment an item with Strength, 3 Flawless Royal Topazes will add Intelligence, 3 Flawless Royal Emeralds will add Dexterity, and 3 Flawless Royal Amethysts will add Vitality.

Each rank adds +5 Str/Int/Dex/Vit depends on what gems (ruby, topaz, …) you use.
The rank on the legendary gem determines the Caldesann’s Despair rank.
So Caldesann’s Despair rank 50 = 250 Str/Int/Dex/Vit

You can re-augment the items but the new rank REPLACE the old one, not accumulated.

Thanks for the info. So if I understand well this kind of transmute only apply for the royal gems. The legendary gem is just a necessary ingredient. If I actually use the gem (like Pain Enhancer) I shouldn’t put it in, only those gems, which I don’t use.

More precisely, Flawless Royal gems.

Which gem doesn’t matter but its rank does. As you should know by now, the gems shall be destroyed by transmute.

Note also that, some legendary gems have maximum rank (50, 99, 100, …). If you target to augment rank 75, don’t level up those gem with cap at 50, for example.

Thanks, I understand now!

the gem will actually tel you its cap it will say 0/50 ranks meaning you have 0 of the 50 ranks possible.

if you rank gems for the caldesan enchant always use gems that dont have any cap at all just to be safe.

and never ever use the gem of ease for caldesan it is the only gem with a special use in the cube it can be used to remove the lvl requirement of an item (at rank 25) so a new lvl 1 character can use a lvl70 item.

Just re-iterating so this stands out. I’ve seen a decent amount of posts complaining about it.

It still works, but can also be accidentally wasted as Zealos explained above.

Better to avoid using this particular gem.

hello all. I have the wastes set with crimsons and zodiac. some of my gear are already augmented but i cannot augment the rest. where ever i read noone is mentioning anything about set limitations about augment and i have read articles talking about all items augmented.
Can someone drop some light in this ?

Thanks

only ancient and primal ancient items can be augmented. Looking at your profile you have all your ancients augmented. so that seems to be the problem

in my seasonal char i have only 4 parts augmented.
about the rest it denies . Unless it takes into account my off season player as well if that’s what you mean

Pay attention to the items that you can and can’t augment. Then read the recipe again. You can only augment Ancient items. Not sure how much more simple anyone can explain this. Your items that you cannot augment aren’t ancient.

You currently now have 5 items augmented.

That is because the other 8 items equipped by your Seasonal Barbarian on the Europe Region are:

  1. Gauntlet of the Wastes (Gloves NOT Ancient or Primal)
  2. Puzzle Ring (Ring NOT Ancient or Primal)
  3. Captain Crimson’s Thrust (Pants NOT Ancient or Primal)
  4. Bul-Kathos’s Solemn Vow (Mighty Weapon NOT Ancient or Primal)
  5. Helm of the Wastes (Helm NOT Ancient or Primal)
  6. The Flavor of Time (Amulet NOT Ancient or Primal)
  7. Mortick’s Brace (Bracers NOT Ancient or Primal)
  8. Sabaton of the Wastes (Boots NOT Ancient or Primal)

And, as Zealos tried to tell you, only Ancient or Primal items can be augmented. It even says this in Kanai’s Cube if you open the Recipe Book to Page 10. Under the Recipe title it says “Augment Ancient Item”. Ancient items include Primal items. It DOES NOT say Augment Legendary Item. (See image below):

I hope that helps.

You were right i noticed and came here to delete the last post but i was way too late…
Thank you for your replies everyone !

i wasn’t trying to augment the puzzle ring , you caught me out of GR :stuck_out_tongue:

Ummm, why are you wearing a Puzzle Ring? Has no one told you what they are used for?

That’s irrelevant. You did not seem to understand the difference between Legendary items and Ancient items. And I was responding to the comment you posted about not being able to augment the rest of your items. I was merely trying to clarify which items you could not augment based on the current items you had equipped according to your Armory Profile.

Hopefully, you now understand that only Ancient items can be augmented. This includes: Ancient items, Primal items, Ancient Set items and Primal Set items.

Nefertiri makes a good point. Equipping a Puzzle Ring is no longer beneficial to players. If you place a Puzzle Ring in Kanai’s Cube, with no other items or Mats, and click the Transmute button, it will open a Portal in town to The Vault. This Portal will stay open indefinitely, so you can make trips back to town to empty your Inventory if needed. Even after you kill Greed, the Portal will stay open. Make sure you pick up all the items and Gold that drop during the battle with Greed first. As soon as you click on Greed’s Strongbox (the large Chest) a sixty-second timer will start. You have a full minute to pick up the loot that drops from the Chest. When the timer expires the Portal will close, allowing you to open a new Portal to The Vault, provided you have more Puzzle Rings.

Note: Ancient Puzzle Rings will open Ancient Vaults with mobs of Goblins and much more loot. Primal Puzzle Rings do not open Primal Vaults, they currently only open Ancient Vaults.

because of the color and the "Legendary " i never payed attention in the absense or not of the word " ancient ".
At least you guys pointed that fact because i came across another post with a guy who doesn’t pay much attention (like me  ) and people were instructing him in their replies to empty his inventory into the stash…
Right after reading that i made this post …

i know about the vault but thanks for mentioning it in case i hadn’t noticed that as well (i cannot but admit it lol).
i just got a puzzle ring with a socket and because of the admitedly distant relation between atributes with the boon of the hoarder i just categorised them in the same category and socketed it there when i started playing diablo.
After that i guess it’s the power of the habbit

I’m just glad you posted here instead of the Bug Report Forum. Otherwise, the replies you received might have been a bit more toxic.

Anyway, I hope you now know what to look for when augmenting your items.

Tip: Never use the Gem of Ease to augment your items. It will work, but it is too easy to forget your 3 Flawless Royal Gems and you end up using the wrong Recipe (Removes Level Requirement) and losing your Gems too.
Good hunting!
