I wish blizz would make a 3rd check box for character creation besides seasonal/hardcore seasonal. They need a PURE SOLO option, that locks your character out of grouping, and it could have its own solo leader board or at the least have you on the regular leader board but have a symbol showing you’re pure solo. I still have a buddy that plays occasionally but I really just like jumping on for fresh seasons and seeing how fast I can get to 70 and get geared all solo… then I look at the leader boards and get depressed and log off till next season…
Also it would need to lock you out of any gear or gems acquired on any other seasonal character you make.
sounds like you’re living the life of a cubs fan. its alright just remember there’s always next year also as a mainly solo player, I do like this idea. i have to change my character’s set up for the two and game play is totally different at least for barb class.
I don’t really see the point of your request. If you want pure solo and not to be bothered, just remove all your friends and keep your status ‘‘invisible’’ at all times. As for the solo leaderboards they already exist…

What stops these solo clears from gemming up . Augmenting in groups .that usually contain bots. Then diving into a solo gr with gems and augments that have been obtain via group play.

I guess I wouldn’t be against this idea as long as there’s separate conquests for each. Not that I mind leveling a character all on my own, it is just easier when I need a conquest that requires making more than one character, it’s nice to be able to get Power Level from a clanmate so I can just get the conquest like “complete a Grift 55 with 6 sets”.
So if it went something like I could get 2 conquests on SSF and repeat one on either seasonal Softcore or Seasonal Hardcore for the third, I’d get behind it. Otherwise, it isn’t needed even if I do enjoy playing SSF most of the time. I can do that now without any special button to push.

The whole premise for me about this is that I put in some serious solo grind the second the gates open on a season, and I would love to know how I hold up against others doing the same, I could care less about how I compare to someone thats been tearing it up in a 4 person group the entire time with higher drop rates/xp/faster bounties, etc etc… there is no way to track a true solo experience without it being in the game.
Ok smart guy if you follow your apparent rules DJAetius. How is the solo leaderboard then fair when 99% of ppl on it have level gems in groups and your not cause your trying to SSF.

I see your point about the leaderboards - however there will still be botters in them making them not ‘‘fair’’ anyway… Not sure this whole solo thing deserves the precious time of the few devs still working on D3…
To me it doesn’t seem like you care about actual solo play. You care about leaderboards. Even if there was a solo leaderboard just for solo play, there still will be players cheating with bots and filling that leaderboard.
If you truly want to be a solo player, then just play solo, with no public games or help from other players. This should fix it.
If your complaining how hard it is to be on the leaderboards then welcome to Diablo 3! That’s one of the point to why people play. We grind so much just to get our names on there. Get good.
One player enters, one player has to finish the entire GRift. Solo.
The fact that some people simply refuse to prepare in a way thats as effective as someone else preparation doesnt make it any less of a solo accomplishment. Preparation is not competition.
I am in 100% agreement that we should have a solo league. The player base will not be adversely affected and even POE has an SSF option and it’s tremendously popular. And to those saying well why don’t you just instead. You are entirely missing the point. The game is fun as hell solo and there is a large portion of the playerbase already playing that way now. This would just give them an official leaderboard and playmode that cannot be gamed in anyway.
More options is never a bad thing and no one is forcing you to play. It would probably keep me playing much longer than any other addition because the group meta is stale and boring and is entirely anti hack and slash.
The only time I group up is to powerlevel someone, or help my buddy catch up to me faster by making a 2nd character of w/e his class is, to double his loot drops.
It’s not hard to be on the leaderboards, it’s hard to STAY on the leaderboards. I get my GR70 done in a few days of season start (whereas people who run in groups have it in the first night) and I can get on the list till the 90s, then overnight the entire list becomes a top 1000 cookie cutter build of people with hi level gems… it’s unfortunate that the solo players (who actually have chosen the more difficult method) get no representation.
I don’t play non season at all…havent in a very long time. The reason I keep coming back sesaon after season is for the thrill of the “race”. I have a well tuned method for leveling fast legit no cheese, and I enjoy the power jumps I get when I finally get that item i need with the right stats. The problem is that people who are doing the same thing in groups become exponentially more powerful as time goes on. All I want is a tracker leaderboard that shows all the people doing it all completely solo. The leaderboard IS a big part of the allure of the seasonal challenge. Without it, there’s not much the game offers me, seeing as there is no way to keep up. And as far as bots, it’s pretty obvious whos botting, and they get weeded out eventually.
There are many upsides to having this. You would actually be able to see more build variants suceeding for longer in the race, and people that normally stop playing after a week or two might actually feel like they can keep grinding and have something to show for it. Not sure why a suggestion that would help retain player engagement longer meets such resistance and criticism.
As far as the argument of “wasting precious time/resources of the few devs still working on this game” firstly how many themed seasons do you think they can come up with? They have to be welcome to ideas for new things to add. Secondly this would require only a few things to implement: one more search filter on leaderboards, and one more variable with character settings-- no grouping/seperate paragon/ no loot sharing through stash with any other seasonal characters… thats it.
Although I like the idea of a pure solo character, selecting that at the beginning really wouldn’t work for me. See, I like to play with the wife (who doesn’t).
I fall into the category that most solo players seem to, which is ‘I mostly play solo’. Thing is, we play at a level typically well below what my character can do, so no large gains there. Multiplay for me is a step backwards in gems, paragon, drops and mats. In addition a lot of people would miss split bounties. I haven’t played a pub bounty game for 5 seasons so I won’t be missing those.
Is it simply a leader board thing where multijunkies bring in their ill-gotten gains of high gems and paragon to wreck the top1000 solo clears? Just make legendary gems upgradeable only within a solo rift. One line of code could go a long way to even out the gaping chasm between solo and multi play. Not a nerf as much as a brake on the high progression attainable these days. Make GR150 great again!
I love how a majority of the replies against are absolute nonsense. Just don’t look at the boards or turn off your friends list. I have not seen one concrete example of why a SSF league would be a bad thing for those who want it.
More diversity in a game only helps with that game and allows people to enjoy it how they choose. If you don’t want to play SSF then don’t but for those of us who do, unless you can make a cogent argument against, save the nonsensical responses please.
Firstly if the bots cant share anything, it will be blatantly obvious that they are botting because they will be 10 or more GR levels above everyone else and be playing the game 20 hrs a day non stop…
Second, I do enjoy the game… for about 2 weeks. Then I go play one of those other “more competitive” games for a few months while I wait for the season to end and start again.
If I could continue to keep up with the rest of the players minus the obvious botters at the top, I would play a lot longer each season. You want the game to completely die off? just say so… otherwise you need to recognize that I am not the only one that would be inspired by the addition of such a system for the unrepresented solo players.
And @InThayne : you can totally still play with the wife on another character, the pure solo character would be just like making a hardcore character (they dont share stash or paragon or artisans with your SC character either) Having to level from scratch twice in a season would keep people playing longer too!
Honestly by myself solo I can hit lvl 70 in a little over 3hrs if luck is on my side with certain RNGeezus moments.
great idea im think about this idea some times and only problem is people who using Diablo 3 Bots and Programs blizzard dont ban for such behavior then yea…dead end
