Primals making me depressed

I’m running the GoD DH again this season. So far I have found three Primal Shadow pieces, two of them really good - including a Holly Point Shot with cold damage. I know, I know, RNG blah blah blah. I have some pretty good GoD pieces but no Primals. The Shadow set is good and I enjoyed it for three seasons, getting good drops for an obsolete set is incredibly depressing.

I wish Primals had never been added to the game, they’ve ruined the loot hunt for me. (YMMV)

When you think of primals as a necessity, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Your goal should be for a nice ancient version. Primals are just a bonus, that is if you do find one with decent attributes. Often times Primals aren’t that much better than a nicely rolled ancient version.

Don’t worry about finding them. It’s not worth beating yourself up over. When a good usable primal does drop, let it come as a surprise!

I do not receive many primals and when I do they are mostly junk, so I don’t care anymore.

And that’s the big problem with primals and why it was an enormous mistake to add them to the game. People seem to think they are a necessity.

At least they didn’t get implemented as they were originally designed, meaning 30% higher stats. Then they would actually have been a mandatory choice which would’ve been worse.

By this point primals are here to stay. If any change should be done to them, it’s a significant reduction of the affix RNG. Remove a whole lot of affixes from the pool an item can roll with that no build ever uses. Take offhands like quivers as an example, nobody wants a Holy Point Shot to roll with any other normal skill affix other than Impale, just remove all other skill affixes from the pool.

I don’t think reduction of the affix pool should be done for primals, as that would make them much easier to gear up with. However I do agree that a few select items should be changed to always have one specific attribute fixed to them. So with your example given, Holy Point Shot should always come with the Impale skill damage bonus, regardless of it’s normal/ancient/primal status. Another one that needs a change is Flavor of Time, it should have the guaranteed run speed changed to a guaranteed socket.

That is exactly what they are supposed to be. A perfectly rolled Ancient (as in max stats for an Ancient - not always the ones you want).

The first iteration of Primals were actually better than Ancients by a fair bit. People were really concerned about power creep and the feeling that not getting them (and them being super rare) would be too punishing.

The end result was Primals were nerfed to be perfectly rolled Ancients instead. So, for people who already had good Ancient rolls they were not going to do much. For those who had poor Ancient RNG, they would be a boost.

If only current Primal is stronger than Ancient by 30% and it rolls perfect stats ala Primal v.1 + Primal v.2. This will be the ultimate weapon and I would have run the bounty like there is no tomorrow until I got these Primal items for my character.

Current Primal? Doesn’t even worth an effort to look for them as long as you have almost perfect Ancient items.

So far i have found NO DAM PRIMAL THATS USEFUL… oh never mind. back to what you where going on about. LMAO

Yeah, P1600 and not a single primal equipped.

I made a Christmas wish for everyone to get a useful primal, but I guess you were on the naughty list. Sorry.

I am in the same boat. I got 4 primal DH set pieces, none for GoD. Just got a primal belt, that’s as good as it gets for me. Been looking for a primal dawn for a few seasons now. No luck.

But that’s why we play the game, right? Because when that one perfect piece drops, its all worth it. Sort like playing golf. You can have a horrible day and hit that one perfect shot.

V1 was completely fine, most just didn’t see that then because they weren’t running speed 100’s and getting hundreds of drops per hour and didn’t have the insight to see this would have been infinitely better than grinding power via paragons. “perfect stat” rolls on ancient power values are completely and entirely overrated to the point of being utterly useless in comparison to augments and paragon.

Oh well, D4 will hopefully learn better from this. So far so good with new legendaries essentially being farm forever, however.

Lucky, I found none on my Wiz main… So I stopped playing…

Never understood the stigma of Primals. Even if I find a terrible one, it’s 15 souls I didn’t have before. I’ve found 30ish this season. 3 usable, 1 of those being GG (primal Illlusory boots for ZDH). I consider that a win. The unrealistic expectation of every primal being useful is the real problem. That and the mentality that you should use a primal because it’s primal and not because it has the best stats. Sometimes you find a primal that’s worse than the non-ancient you have equipped. That’s RNG.

I personally think Primals are a nice addition to the game. Enjoy getting one and more disappointed when it turns out to be junk.

Now if there was only a way to use those junk primals to work towards one you truly need.

For example… salvage 1 primal into a primal soul… then use cube to reforge an ancient into a primal with those primal souls

i.e. 10 primal souls + 10 Ram Gifts + Ancient = Primal Version of same Ancient with same stats. Allowing another mystic reroll.

I think 10 bad primals is a fair trade for 1 desired one…

It gives us something more to work towards in the later stages of a season once you have a glut of Ram Gifts you no longer need

cheers

There are 2 levels of depression regarding primal items.

But to compensate there are also 2 levels of excitement.

Right item? Yes/No. Right rolls? Yes/No.

I can’t complain, got a stash+ filled with primals (including those I am wearing), 30% of them are used in my GoD DH (including: Yang good rolls, set shoulders, focus ring chd/AD/damage/socket, boots, Flavor of Time - not perfect, dmg range instead of cold %, Dawn).
Rest are non-class specific items, and a large collection of quivers. Including 2 very good rolled DML and 1 9CS which is completely unusable (dex, vit, bolas, resource cost reduction, IAS).

They are not needed, ancients (and sometimes even normal items - case in point gloves with perfect trifecta values) are more than enough to get you where you need to go.

The only real % deal for me is on defensive items, like Wraps of Clarity. There is a huge difference between 45% and 50% DR, much bigger than between 190% on belt and 200% (primary skills dmg). I recently spent another 120 gem to aug a newly pair of ancient WoC bracers with 50% DR over the ones I previously had which had only 49%

Keep hunting and just play the game stuff will drop and someday eventually sun will shine the right way for you

Yeah, it’s all RNG if you get it or not, and still roll-depending if it’s usable or not -

, , , with all that, the name “PRIMAL” sounds really attractive to me… so WANT.

I’ve got a Shiled of the Steed, not even ancient, but with fine rolls and afraid of getting a primal one with stupid rolls…

I’m on the other spectrum of this. Knowing that I could potentially get a gg perfectly rolled item, brought me back to the loot hunt.

I hope this is satire.
