Primal Ancient Updated?

+1000 atm is the base stat but what about 1250?

No. All that does is add more unnecessary power creep and makes primals mandatory items in any build which is even worse.

If there’s an update to be made to primals, then it should be a complete removal of that item tier. Simply convert existing primals to regular ancients while maintaining their stats.

The original version of primals were an extra 20-30% number bonus on top of ancients. However, this would have made primals mandatory for progression, especially the weapon and possibly rings too, and thus it was changed (in that PTR) to instead provide an item with perfect attribute rolls.

What would be more interesting for me would be to see alternate types of modifications of ancients in addition to primal ancients:

  • Angelic Ancient - Ancient item with the ability to have 2 affixes rerolled at the mystic.

  • Cosmic Ancient - Ancient item with an extra secondary affix.

  • Demonic Ancient - Ancient item with an extra primary affix, but a negative affix too (e.g. damage taken +5%).

These are just a few examples, but I think they illustrate the idea.

This is the problem with people in an ten year old game:
People post ideas that are missing original understanding.

to whit:
Original Primal idea by Blizzard was overwhelmingly destroyed by idiots upon dozens and thousands of idiots freaking out about this piece of gear that will make one God-like.

Only through time did most realize how stupid they were as the changed primal was usually no better than a well rolled Ancient.

So OP, you never get back something you already gave up!

The original iteration of primals was shot down because it was a horrible idea. It was unnecessary power creep and would have made primals mandatory. I’m not saying the current iteration is a good one but it’s better than the original. An entire item tier should never be mandatory for any build.

I have to say, Iria has some good ideas. Like the Demonic Ancient, that would’ve been an interesting iteration for primals. That would allow an item to have extra power but with something negative to balance it.

The original primals were not remotely “mandatory.” They were optimal, and opened another tier for high level players. People got enraged by power creep, failing to realize that in an older game, power creep is the closest to updates you will get.

Actually there’s two problems with Primals having better stats than Ancients.

  1. They’d be sort of mandatory for the top of the leaderboards, and it’s possible, because they’re so rare that even a top end player won’t get the perfect primal they need to get to the top. While someone that’s a bit more lucky, but less skilled to beat them.

  2. Because they’re available to anybody, but rare, a lucky player that’s less skilled getting one would enrage the elitists.

So they just made Ancients with maxed out stats, so that a lucky player would have no advantage over the “more deserving”.

Love this idea; i am sure some would say power creep

Adding one

  • Shadow Ancient - ability to re-roll one secondary stat as well as one primary stat

I feel the original Primal was the way to go.
The current Primal is ridiculous, as it is only good when the rolls are what a build works with.
I salvage 99% of all the pri’s that drop for me.

I like the idea of Primals being a rare reagent in order to reroll ancients. That way, even if you get a bad one, you still are excited to cube it and reroll something that could be awesome.

Agreed. power creep is what is needed to to advance the one or two GR levels. except that we have to re-farm the item all over again which is totally madness.

Primal ancients shouldn’t be avaiable for as low grs as 70. It should start dropping after doing like 120.

Or maybe there shoule be way to have 100% chance for primal drop like daily/weekly quest-line so it’s not all about lack and no-lifing.

Original Primal idea was horribly bad, and I’ll tell you why:

It made the great items better, but it didn’t help the items that were bad to begin with.

Under that system, if I got a Grandfather sword it would still suck just as much as it does now. However, the fact that it has 30% increased stats and would STILL BE WORTHLESS would piss me off. And if I actually got a good item that had 30% increased stats but still couldn’t used it because it rolled badly, that would be an even worse experience.

At least with Primals only having maximized stats it doesn’t bother as much when they’re bad or almost good because it’s possible for Ancients to be close enough to that level.

Under version 1 you’d still have salved 99% of the Primals that dropped for you because a 30% increase wouldn’t have been good enough to trump Ancients if they rolled badly or were bad items to begin with.

Of course they would have been mandatory, especially weapons. Seriously, what’s the first thing everyone does if they complete their gear set and don’t have their weapon as Ancient? They flippin’ reroll and upgrade it until it’s Ancient. Why? Because an Ancient weapon is a significant increase in damage.

Power creep is not content and will never be content.

What about 2500 then augmenting it for 500? Think of the vast possibilities open right before you!..
…
Oh right… You gonna run the same linear tread mill again just to do it over and over for hitting the same goalpost in a shorter time period then brag about it online for your ego. How about not doing that and enjoying what you got so far?
Group play will always out-do solo play as long as botters are present and they ain’t gonna go anywhere without infrastructure changes to main servers.
Hate to break it to you but you less likely to become the first guy to solo GR150 first at least not before we get a GR255 increase on the scale.

You never would know this, because it never happened.
You are just imagining things in your mind.

Are you trying to say that most ancients you find come with orange powers? Are you also saying that every primal you’ve found has the same?

Because if you are, then I’m betting that you at least equip an ancient or primal even if it doesn’t have a orange power and I’m going to tell a little secret.

If you’re equipping ancient’s that don’t have orange or green text, then you’re doing it wrong.

powercreep is never unnecessary, i call it evolution

Angelic and demonic would be awesome. I have suggested being able to reroll 2nd affix, even if the cost of the second was huge. Demonic would be fun just to listen to people complain.

Power creep is not evolution, it’s power creep and completely unnecessary.
