Primal Ancient of a wrong class as 1st drop

Hello!
I’ve just beat greater rift level 75 and got my 1st primal ancient item! For some reason mine was for a wrong class. I’ve got the shield for Crusader while playing as a Necromancer. The shield called “Vo’Toyias Spiker”.
I know that I can use that shield as a Necro, but that is very lame to get other class drops.

Bad luck but unfortunately not a bug, always a slim chance for legendary items to drop for classes besides the one youre playing

All legendary drops, including the guaranteed primal, are subject to Smart Loot v2. This means 85% of the drops are for the class you’re playing when the loot drops, the other 15% of the drops are for the other six classes.

This was stated in the announcement blog when the guaranteed primal was first introduced (a number of seasons ago), i.e. they deliberately spelled out this could happen.

This is not a bug.

didn’t they say that the first one would be something you’re class can use even if it is completely useless? It’s also possible you bugged it by doing a 75 instead of a 70…i remember one season someone saying they didn’t even get a primal and someone else was saying always do the 70 first (to unlock Primals) even if you have the option of going higher…

You only get the guaranteed Primal drop:

  • With a Seasonal Character.
  • Upon successfully completing a Greater Rift Level 70 or higher Solo.
  • “Successfully completing” means killing the Rift Guardian before the 15 minutes expire.
  • You only get one guaranteed Primal item per Region per Season. Not per Character. Although, once unlocked, they’re unlocked for all your Seasonal Characters. At the end of the Season it will carry over to non-Season.

You can easily check to see if you’ve unlocked Primal drops for the Season by looking at your Achievements. (See image below).

If you have The Primal Soul-o Achievement and a 1200+ Blood Shards cap, then you have unlocked Primal drops.

The guaranteed Primal item that drops is subject to D3’s Smart Loot. There is an 85% chance it will be an item your Class can use and 15% chance it will be for another Class.

Finally, we want to make sure everyone is clear when they can start collecting Primal Legendaries; upon completing your first Greater Rift 70 or higher Solo, you’ll receive an achievement indicating your accomplishment and the Greater Rift boss will be guaranteed to drop a Primal Legendary. This drop is subject to all other loot rules—meaning while there’s a large chance it will be suited for your class, randomness does play a factor.

You’re guaranteed to get one, not that it’ll be for your class.
The 85% from Smart Loot v2 is the large chance they’re talking about.

Not a bug.

ah ic
so it’s already hard enough to get a primal that you need but they there’s a 15% chance on top of that you’ll get something that’s not even for your class… ooh boy

This is one of those occasions where sh!t happens.

Lol nope. It’s just RNG. Most of the free 1st primals I’ve gotten have been for other classes, or if it’s a general item rolls with int even when I’m playing barb.

I did once get APDs that my barb could use while doing season with DH though.

It’s just a bonus to show that you’ve unlocked them, since they are rare enough many would question if they did. All but the APDs I’ve mentioned above were 15 souls for me (which is consistent with most of the primals I get anyway…)
