Is there a good way to farm these, or is it just brute force? Do as many GR’s as fast and as high as you can until they drop?
Yep. It is the way!
If like me you keep getting GR burn-out… a good way to farm Primals is take advantage of Altar of Rites Double Bounty Box and farm them crazy and use the materials to mass craft Set Bonus on the Blacksmith (besides the garantee GR70 Primal, all others I dropped was that way).
Another GR burn-out option is farm Hellfire Keys and craft several Hellfire Amulets or Rings… but, this consume too much FSouls, Gems and Gold (well… isn’t a issue hehe)
Explain that please. Just craft set pieces at the BS until I get primals?
Yes. That.
Chose any set piece, Cain’s, Crimson guard… etc. Each piece uses two Bounty materials, if not mistaken
Exemple: I choose to craft guardian belts until it was primal. When the materials ended, went into another piece that uses different materials… rense repeat till they crafted Primals.
Cool thank you. I’ll try that. I was starting to get disheartened. I need 2 more primals to unlock the last potion power, and then 6 more to unlock the last power of the tree. I can’t imagine how much you have to play to get all those primal drops.
For me it was the easy part, after unlock GR70, did this Blacksmith strat and was easy. Hard part was that freak Gibberish Gemstone.
Good Luck, my friend!
I have gotten lucky with the chests that spawn while running bounties, Greed and even Kadala for primal ancients. I still have not seen a petrified scream on EU yet. My alter and season journey are done on NA.
Just clearing T16 rifts top to bottom will get you more primals than you can shake a stick at.
Any time you could get an “ancient” you have the chance to get a “primal.” So this includes upgrading rares in the cube, as well as re-rolling legendaries in cube, but NOT the set re-roll cube recipe (as it specifies “resulting item cannot be ancient”).
There’s no real short-cut to getting them, aside from speed. You want to do whatever you do, as fast and efficiently as possible, so that you get more drops per unit time, which in turn means more chances at primals per unit time.
One other thing to note, is that you want to shoot for GR100+ as your farming target. At 100 you have 12 guaranteed legendary drops from GRG and therefore 12 shots at a primal (though obviously if it rolls a rama or a scream, those can’t be ancient and therefore can’t be primal). Anything lower and you have 11 or fewer guaranteed. Anything higher nets you more shards + experience, so it’s still good to go higher! But don’t go “too high” to the point where you sacrifice your speed.
That might work or not, depends on luck. But speaking from my personal experience it happened more often than not that a primal or goblin packs popped up after killing the RG.
Also, for this season, keep in mind that Kadala has a higher change to show legendary items. These can be primal as well. And if you have unlocked the final seal and gamble a primal, you receive a second primal one on top. So that’s also something to look out for.
T16 Nehpalem or greater rifts?
i got a primal in a random chest.
i also got 2 primals in a row in GRs 100.
they can be anywhere, as long as you can get the drops quickly.
getting the herding thing seems harder.
They drop at both these activities. Doing GRs will also net you more experience and paragons. So GRs is the mother of end game. Even if you don’t get primals , you get progression through paragons. Nephalim rifts are there for keys, gold, death’s breaths, regular gems, etc.
You should concentrate on farming GRs. The highest level you can clear in 3-4 minutes And of course augment all your ancient/primals to be as strong as you possibly can.
That’s the best “all around” strategy yes, for primals specifically doing sub 1 minute grift 90+ is king though, which is not that hard to do with an appropriate build. Doing 1 min 90:s will net you 3 times as much legendaries (approximately) as a 3 min 120 in a given time frame.
You will of course sacrifice quite a lot of XP.
i just got a primal from nightmare.
they can drop everywhere.
Like everything, virtually, in Diablo it is all about repetition so, yes, doing the highest GR as quickly as possible to guarantee a better drop rate. Although, do not forget Kadala can also drop Primals… and with a x2 rate boost, that is helpful (if it actually works - there is debate) and getting Shards for her to gamble with also requires high GRs. So they are doubly effective.
It works, just not for all item slots.
And as we all know XP is the ultimate power boost. IMO you should farm for XP not loot as the loot will come as a by product.
The only time I haven’t had two drop is if I get one from the cube or bounty cache. Kadala does drop two if that buff is active. So does Greed in the vault.
I needed 2 more Primals to unlock the double drops from the altar. I actually got a double Primal drop from a T16 rift guardian. I used both to unlock my double Primals from the altar and now have yet to get a Primal since.
