i have no idea what you’re talking about.

The point is, most builds are good as some things and weaker at others. There shouldn’t be builds that are excellent at everything. That’d be like having a gun with the fire rate of an AK-47, the accuracy of a 50 cal sniper rifle, and it shoots RPGs rather than rounds.

What’s that? Outside bossfights, that’s really not a thing, and even for bosses that’s no guarantee.

The only issues in this scenario are

  1. Map fishing is possible. No downsides to rerolling until you get the I.Win map.
  2. Respeccing is easy, free and instant. No downside in choosing the I.Win build for each thing you do. So the basic concept of some builds being better or worse for different things fall apart.

All i’m really getting from this is call of duty bad and diablo 3 is call of duty therefore bad.

D3 builds still have traits and some are better in certain scenarios than others. (High density, close elites, blues, yellows, wallers, illusionists, juggernauts, big hit box, small hit box, fast mobs that follow, mobs that attack fast, etc).

There is no easy way to avoid fishing for your specialization using RNG maps without forcing certain scenarios into the generation, which would probably make the game feel more static and boring.

The devs haven’t addressed every complaint in D3 either. Hence why we still have 15+ tiers of power between sets.

IMHO, the OP’s perspective is something you hear from players that are about to burn out.

This is why I prefer solo

Leaving a dungeon without consequences just shouldn’t be a thing.
The game world should punish “heroes” who run from battles.

In a simplistic non-“immersive” way, it could be that you just cant enter another GRift for 15 minutes, if you abandon one.
More immersive versions could be stuff like town NPCs shunning you, because you ran from battle, instead of saving or revenging the town folks, as you had promised. They wont trade with you, offer you any quests, bounties (why bother when you are dishonorable) etc.
Of course, those penalties would not really matter unless losing access to those things mattered.
So in reality I am probably more in favor of the non-immersive type of design, where developers can just pick a consequence they know will matter.

Maybe lower droprates. Monsters didnt bother equipping their best items anymore, since the “heroes” who are fighting them have turned out to be jokes.

Baal of Duty?

Call of duty has zombies. Diablo has zombies. They’re like, literally the same game!

Desert Eagle?  :joy: Only an armchair commando would select a desert eagle for a sidearm.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

What is the reward for sticking it out? We only fish for leaderboards. We deal with crappy RNG for our exp runs. Intelligent players know when it makes sense to forge ahead and pass a speed bump.

The GR game mode doesn’t reward exploration, or increase the quality of loot if you found a legendary item 10 floors deep, or provide better experience if you kill an elite with 6 severe affixes. Those things would change the decision making.

Ugh, lost me. Why would I want to do that?

Now, if you’d said something interesting like “imagine Redneck Rampage…” I’d have kept reading.

Oh, but I did. Yeah.

Players not content with their choice have two options: 1) find another option or 2) quit.

Ideally, those initial snipers should be encouraging #1.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting (or the rest of the posters here are), but this is about the challenges the game gives you and the tools you get to solve them.

In CoD, you have long, open maps that favor the sniper rifle (high, single-target damage), urban warfare maps that favor the SMG (melee, short-range, single-target or small AoE damage), and maps that favor the use of grenades (medium range, large AoE damage). The game presents you with various tactical situations, and gives you tools to solve them. You’re at a disadvantage if you only take 1 tool. You’re encouraged to carry something that allows you to deal with all of those tactical situations.

In D3, the devs have all but ignored this. While you have various different skills/spells like the various COD guns, the game itself doesn’t really present you much difference in challenges. D3 is designed such that you almost always want big AoE damage. This is the choice you always take because it’s the choice that kills 95%+ of everything on the screen. You don’t make builds that specialize in single-target damage very often (ie the RG killer, like the Impale DH or fury barb) because you’ll never get past the trash.

If I’m understanding this correctly, the complaint is that D3 is too predictable, and there are few reasons to ever want to make different types of builds, when only a small handful of AoE focused builds are the most effective. And the handful of times when the random rift generator gives you something that’s not good for your build, you just leave, make a new game, and fish for a better rift.

Am I understanding the comment correctly?

D3 has always been about fishing for that GG map, be it in Campaign in the days before Adventure Mode, or later with Bounties, Rifts, or Greater Rifts.

I remember farming regular goblins in Act 3 right before Azmodan. I remember experience runs in the same area. If the map wasn’t top notch, quit and make another game. In the long run, it’s more efficient to get experience and better loot. Back in the day, before legendaries fell like rain, I would type BOOM every time one dropped. I played with a few others that did the same. Best way to BOOM? Fishing maps and figuring out the best class/build to BOOM. Even joked about calling ourselves the LEGION OF BOOM! Good times.

I remember doing that in D2 also, especially with people that had maphack.

Same goes with classes and builds. Some will always be better than others in certain situations, especially depending on your style of gameplay. I was able to HC back in the day with a Monk and no other class. I even got to and defeated Diablo. I unlocked all of the banner sigils and accents for each difficulty. I like the Monk, yeah, But I would have rather done that with the Barbarian, just couldn’t.

That’s the nature of the beast, in this case Diablo. Yeah, you do have 2 options. Play the game or don’t. DUH! That’s the same with any game. One would think that you would have figured that out by now. Should be a given, no?

Call of Diablo

MAKE IT HAPPEN ALREADY

That’s maybe immersive, but it sucks from a game play perspective. Entering a rift you have no hope to clear in the allotted time and be “forced” to slog trough it for the sake of slogging trough it really wouldn’t be fun.
