That’s great news but repeating those words in a tweet wouldn’t be too hard. Even with 140 character limit of a tweet or so. After they answered the question they could reply to their own and create a small thread of replies.
When that’s the case people wonder what changed or didn’t.
I wouldn’t take such remark serious. Diablo Immortal ported to PC and it’s meant for PC gamers now. Practicality beats emotions; game on PC so it’s made for PC, not mobile.
The job posting was the thing that confused people. https://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/66235-diablo-4-will-have-an-in-game-shop/
And it’s already filled if you check the source link. To quote:
Manage the virtual product offers of the Diablo IV in-game storefront throughout each season to deliver an exceptional player experience.
That sounds abit familiar; don’t you think?
No worries, I don’t take offense from that, Beef. At least from you. Also surprise, they gonna baby us. https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/vcs8am/until_blizzard_outright_say_there_wont_be_any_pay/icjbaua/
You can read the PezRadar’s comment here. He refrained from commenting on monetization model directly at reddit, perhaps he wasn’t eligible to response and pointed third quarter updates or earlier.
Is that outlet you linked, be a trusted source and very well known one? That “we won’t sell power” thing could be as well the interpretation of the author because that’s doesn’t look like a full article and missing some coherency.
I just hope it’s true and they clear all suspicions with an update, but after seeing the job postings, no details on monetization model and their recent comments, I started to have questions.
To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if they double down on the flick. They can make a system where power comes from character levels but most useful items having a high level requirement. With some casual explanation Blizzard start selling premium extra experience buffs additional to the battle passes that last a very short duration instead. There you go, you’re selling power without selling power.
The most worrying so far was the recent “we will talk about monetization in an upcoming blog post”.
If they think they need a blog post to explain/excuse what they are doing, it seems really bad.
When all that is needed would be 1-2 sentences.
Did Wyatt get a new job recently?
Any kind of selling XP buffs or lvl boosts is selling power.
Yes and no. People asked if they gonna sell gear in D:I, as in power, the reply was “we won’t sell gear” but the in-game shop went too far with legendary gems which took negative light. The most important part of all this that they they imported D:I to PC too.
I know it was a direct response to PC players wanting to play this openly after the kneejerk responses at Blizzcon '18. Sadly the whole ordeal made with mobile monetization model in mind and port to PC arrived with tons of bugs and incompatibility problems.
Now as a result, you have bunch of confused and concerned fans worrying so. Instead of a shown of good will, people took this as an immense sign of what’s coming up next and ask if that’s a way of seeping mobile model hard monetization into PC or not. The thing is, they haven’t really talked about monetization in detail, and nobody can credit a less known media outlet.
Yes, gems aren’t gear, they’re only part of end-game item chase but people asked if they gonna sell gear in shop as in “power”. And they feel duped when they loaded all the power to legendary gems.
They haven’t made a noticeable remark in monetization model of D4 yet at first hand but they will at the upcoming update. People need to hear it after they have been vague at the previous game.
They told you why they made a PC client and you ignored it claimingnit was something else. Joe Shelley at Blizzcon said no power and has said that when asked ever since. So again, they say something and you don’t believe it.
If that was the case it shouldn’t be too hard repeating it in a tweet. That’s why people worry. They use terms like “anchored around cosmetics” or “built around cosmetics” loosely, this is what people heard before. Monetization shop could be as well 90% cosmetics but rest 10% be about power buffs and it still be “anchored” or “built around”. You may not sell gear, but you can as well sell power and change the game systems from alpha to full release; making resonance, an entirely new stat, a big part of the power player can possess all of a sudden.
People look for between lines and you shouldn’t blame them for it.
I’m not obliged to, neither someone else. If that wasn’t a large scale concern they wouldn’t need an entire blog to address the issue and questions.
People want a direct remark first hand because it was made a concern with D:I release. If it was really public and available to all, I believe they wouldn’t promise a huge blog post dedicated to their monetization model ahead. If it was widely available like you suggested, head media figures in Diablo and Blizzard community (say, Rhykker, Asmon, Raxx, wudijo) would catch that and serve it to their fans.
You have to excuse me but I think half-baked articles that end with “more to come” on less known media outlets leave so much space for personal interpretations from author. In case Joe Shelley really said that back at Blizzcon '19 and I don’t remember it, I’m sorry. People worried if D:I on PC was a sign of goodwill or a sign of what’s to arrive with D4.
This is how you see the events and I don’t think I can change that. With all due respect I take my leave. Most possibly they will try their best to clear that impression but people still be on the lookout for any indirect means and sadly you can’t change this.
Even if people buy into the weak argument that gems aren’t gear (I mean, come on…), the gems also directly makes your gear stronger through resonance. You literally are purchasing gear upgrades. And then there is gear awakening as well.
He wasn’t just misleading, but outright lying.
in addition, with the fact that the PRC authorities been looking into gaming addiction and even introduce laws recently to restrict gaming time for ppl below certain age, this is hardly surprising given the predatory and insidious pay mechanism nature built into Immortal.
