Popularity/interest comparison

I see a lot of Diablo 3 critique meet with white knights claiming that Diablo 3 is far more popular than diablo 2 and D2R

But since blizzard doesn’t share the player count metrics

The closest we can get to valid or invalidate this claim is the interest it generates

Both games are very similar, they are both loot driven arpg, so comparing them on viewership has them on a equal footing

Both D2R and Diablo 3 are getting a patch this week so they are also on equal footing there. D3 getting a season on 15th and D2R on 28th

Based on twitch viewership

Average viewership last 7 days:

D3: 401

D2R:1215

Hours watched last 7 days:

D3:67k

D2R: 204k

Live viewers at the moment of this post:

D3:55

D2R:822

To add insult to injury… old D2 currently has 150 viewers

Funny results, that being said, I would welcome other data to mesure such debate

Update:

And we now have the equal comparison number

Diablo 3 season 26 twitch peak viewers: 35k

D2R ladder 1 peak viewers: 45k

pretty convenient that it is in between seasons, ain’t it?

A better measure/estimate might be made once the actual seasons start, and then tracking for a few weeks. As players ‘finish’ one season, they may migrate to a different one.

I haven’t been keeping up with D2R (I enjoyed D2 and the story, but I’ve no desire to pay a whole new pricetag for an (albeit arguably) same game - so I don’t know if the D2R has already had a season, or will use a mechanic similar to ‘Season Journey’

So is D2R… I even stated that this makes them on even footing lol

Hell, D3 even has the advantage of having the new patch already running since yesterday, that’s usually an interest booster

Does D2R have seasons? What season are they on?

If I relied on popularity to choose which game I play, then it probably wouldn’t be D3 or D2R. But since I play the game I like best, then my choice it very clear. D3 by a long shot.

D2R is a bit nostalgic, but so are black & white movies. I wouldn’t want to spend my time watching one.

Bring on D4!

It’s called ladders and D2R is on ladder#0

But technically D2R ladder#1 is diablo 2 ladder 29

Does it really matter that much, that you need to call people names for having opinions?

For them? Yes. Because they hate D3.

It’s kinda funny, how one is bored and seeks attention and suddenly comes 2 other accounts to spam posts

That’s your best argument lol?

The other being an obvious troll spewing dirty and personal insults and you same I’m the same because I said “white knight” lol

White knight: a person or thing that comes to someone’s aid

You need to throw out the D2R comparisons because it is not D2 and brand new or compare peak D3 numbers to D2R numbers.

That was my argument about you telling me, that I am insulting you cause you remind me of the forum troll. When you clearly is seen, calling people white knights. In the context you were using it, you insulted others cause they have the opinion of, that d3 is more popular than d2. Stop lying. And yes, I believe you are one of the alt accounts to brav.

Some people enjoy playing the forum game as much or more than playing the actual game.
