Please Blizzard: Let Me Move Around Properly Using Left-Click

The fact that I cannot setup my game in a way such that my left click functionality is simply “move and interact” is a travesty.

I know all about force move, and I hate it. I’ve tried endless keybind setups from mouse wheel to space bar to shift to caps lock and so on - it feels so tedious to me and I hate playing like this.

I just want to move around, loot, and open doors by left clicking, but Blizzard is forcing me to bind (or forgo) an ability to left click which screws up my ability to move or causes me to accidentally activate the skill if God forbid I misclick a monster or a destructible item.

I tried binding force move to the middle mouse button and then using a macro to swap left click and the middle mouse button - I can finally move around using my left click, yey! But now I gotta remember to use the middle mouse button every time I want to interact with any object including looting and navigating menus and so on. Not worth the hassle…

You wanna know why I love playing Wizard? Because I can bind Teleport to my left mouse button, allowing me to MOVE AND INTERACT without any issues by simply left-clicking. Even if I click an enemy, the skill doesn’t activate. I have to hold force stand still to activate the skill - and I love it. I don’t think any other character has a skill that works like this - at least not a skill that more or less goes into every build.

A really easy way to fix this issue and immensely improve the game for me and others would be to give us the option under Gameplay settings to make every skill assigned to left click to work like Wizard’s Teleport currently does - i.e. you have to hold down the force stand still modifier to activate the ability. Otherwise it simply lets you move and interact.

Alternatively - but this probably requires more work - it would also work if you designed a move and interact ability that could be assigned to your left click - but then you’d need to figure out what to do about the ability that usually goes to the left click (maybe you could allow the current “left click ability” to be assigned to another hotkey).

The only ways around these problems I have found that worked for me was binding the wheel on the mouse. (and using a mouse with a free spin wheel).

I also have force move bound to the number 5 key, and force stand still bound to the ` key. So they are in easy reach of my left hand when using skill slots 1-4.

Some character builds play better with the wheel for movement (WD for one) and others don’t, like my MS DHer. I use the ~ and hold it still while firing.

I will agree however.

Having the ability to map ANY of the controls/commands how we all see fit to accommodate our individual playstyle is important.

For an example, I play Overwatch. All FPS style games I have ever played I have always used a very odd setup. I don’t use the WASD layout at all. I use the actual arrow keys between the numpad location and the alphabet keys. And I map all the skills accordingly. The keyboard lays at an angle to accommodate my left hand even.

But at least with Overwatch you can completely layout keys how you want. Not with D3.

As a Necro you can assign aura of frailty and move and interact without a triggering a skill.

Otherwise I try to pick a skill with a long cool down that I want to spam.

BBV for WD in Mundugu set up

I put rend for WW Barb since I barely cast it unless pushing.

Champ for Sader and I force move if I want to cast it without enemies around.

Monk I usually leave TR since I’m just channeling anyway.

DH… I haven’t bother playing one in years since … well they haven’t changed in years… maybe S21 I will find out?

Otherwise I try to pick a skill with a long cool down that I want to spam.

The issue with this “solution” is that your character will not move in case you click on an enemy/destructible object while the skill is on cooldown. And like previously mentioned, you might end up using the ability at an undesirable moment if you misclick a monster/destructible object.

Good news! D4 will solve this for you.

Well great. A change like that should not require a new game.
If this ok now according to Blizzard Gaming Standards - why the hell can’t we get it as a QOL change for D3?
If they have time to implement a useless stash search nobody asked for or a useless D2 Diablo as a season gimmick, sure a rebind Skill1 to key can’t be a problem?

D3 is 8 years old and on life support, out with the old, in with the new. Bring on D4 already.

Shouldn’t but donyou know how D3 was coded? It could be a limitation of the way the game was made and it worth taking g resources to change.
