I love /players x command in SP. Use it all the time. I don’t think it is smart to include it in an environment that will be botted to hell and back, though. Ruins the economy.
Easy enough to find various run games and MF in those games to achieve your desired player count.
I hate it when mf guys enter my game while I’m already struggling with monsters. This is exactly the reason why I demand a new game mode, that prevents this kind of game abuse. And no, I dont want a password game, I want people in my game that join for teamplay, not for selfish boss hunt and make monsters harder to kill… sad
The idea that it discourages group play is simply wrong. The things people mostly do in public games are all things they will continue to do in groups. IE: XP runs, PvP, fresh playthroughs
The idea that it benefits bots too much is untrue. Botters with multiple accounts could already bot in 8 player games or even have them join random fresh public games, do specific areas and leave. It by far is a better benefit to legit players and more neutral for bots.
I would agree it may affect the economy since more legit players will be playing in the equivalent of 8 player games to MF, but I don’t think it would ruin it. It’s not like 8 player games have valuable items raining from the sky. If seasons are shorter overall, this would complement shorter ladder seasons.
This is more beneficial to the social aspects of the game not harmful. The current system encourages people to join public games, not bother joining the group and going off on their own for better drops and XP. That is anti-social behavior. There are even guides out promoting this kind behavior, so it may be even more common in D2:R than it was in the original game if they leave things as they are.
If I ever enter your game to mf and you are proper struggling just say. I will either leave quite shortly thereafter np, or maybe there might be some form of quick partied assistance you might prefer! jus ask as I didn’t find a ‘psychic’ skill to spend points on yet
Sorry dude but that’s exactly what’s going to happen. You choice is simple play solo with a password or have an open game people can join (and maybe mf all your bosses while your in act1).
Oh boy. It’s almost like you want to be a little dictator. Well, it sounds like you want to play with a group of friends or like-minded individuals who will all play in the same zones. Clans are designed for that.
Also, there’s really no reason you should be struggling against monsters until hell mode, and only then due to immunities.
No, its better how it is. Play single player and use it. Play online without it, or join games with people in them.
Adding this to online floods tons more items into the game. No good reason to change it.
yep for me to buy the game AND play bnet it either needs the players command or personal loot. If it has neither, and no mod support, I don’t see the point in playing D2R over D2 with all the added stuff out there.
If 8 player LK is that valuable, what will stop botters with 8 accounts from automatically doing it 24/7 or from multiboxers making their very own 8 player game to farm it with? How many people will be joining random public games and going there on their own?
Any scenario you can describe in which one player having access to 8 player level XP or loot is too good will still be happening, just a lot fewer players will be able to take advantage of it. That just means they’ll be at a significant disadvantage.
Many people play solo on bnet and in other online games frequently. Many people played solo a lot in the original game. The point is that you have the option to then go play with other people at times and your character is stored on bnet servers.
The players/difficulty command also wouldn’t be exclusively useful for solo players. It would be useful for small groups of friends in private games as well.
Limiting access to the improvements of 8 player games isn’t really what bnet is for at all. Encouraging people to join random public games and go off on their own just for player count was never intended and isn’t really desirable.
Playing with other people especially in public games with FFA loot, PK’s, Bots, Grabbit, Hackers, and un moderated toxicity turned the game into a rat race.
People preferer to play alone most of the time because public game’s for the most part are sht lol
People USE public games for the exp boost or mf boost only most of the time. Only the try harding discord groups who form teams weeks ahead of reset really play in proper multiplayer on D2. Everyone joins does what they need to do as fast as possible before the game empties then leaves.
The main reason people want this is so they can have an easier time MFing on /players 5 or /players 7. That’s a perk of playing offline, but it’s technically a console command that is not meant for battle net multiplayer. The economy on battle net will be good enough that you can trade your way to gear, rather than have to solo farm it all yourself. Getting the gear you want will not be a problem because of the trade economy. And getting XP won’t be a problem because of public XP farming games. Therefore, don’t change what isn’t broken. And don’t introduce a “broken” mechanic to online multiplayer.
Think of the horrible implications if implemented:
It will allow bots to farm items at a significantly increased rate, and I don’t expect Blizzard to prevent all bots.
As a result of both player activity, and botting, the economy will inflate at a much increased rate, which may lead to strange economic situations where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Or it may lead to high value items losing their value too quickly, and the carrot people are chasing is caught much sooner. Either of these scenarios will negatively impact player retention and the longevity of a healthy player count on battle net.
It would completely change the the ladder race dynamics and give increased favoritism to classes/builds that are already highly favorable in farming Hell /players 8, like javazons, hammerdins, and sorcs. It would create a much less interesting, less diverse and less competitive ladder race.
It would discourage group games for XP grinding, for those builds that can solo /players 8 games. Even if it may be marginally faster XP in a group, many players would still XP farm solo so they have full access to all drops. Then you’d be stuck with large quantities of multiplayer XP farming games filling up with class compositions like 6 barbs, and 2 bear druids. Many others will simply be in their own solo /players 8 games.
The sum of the above points equates to the game and the community suffering greatly - discouraged ladder players, certain classes will be discouraged, the economy will be much worse, and fewer players would have fun and stick with the game. Some people have claimed that the cutthroat nature of the loot system in D2 will negatively impact the community and argue for ploot as a “fix”. That is totally false and we know because of D2’s long history of successful multiplayer. However, if you want to find one way to really kill the community and incentive to play in public games on battle net, allowing /players commands on is possibly the very best way to do it.
For me mostly trading. Some baal runs. Having chars in the “cloud”. Just because one mostly enjoys playing solo does not mean he doesn’t make use of bnet at all.
Is this supposed to be argument to counter what i said? If yes, its not a good one.
You do realize what will happen when you allow /players x right? Every damn botter will start running solo games on p3 or 5 to get a lot more loot.
If you let players use /p X majority will not need to join public games at all. Why the hell you should join public game with weak randoms when you can get all loot and exp solo? Baalruns would be filled with just melee characters who struggle to exp solo.
