Nice, a new player section. Copied over from general:
Preface: I played thru D3 when it was releaseg exactly one single time on lowest difficulty setting to see how the story form d2/lod would continue and then quit since I didn’t like d3 one bit.
I had repeatedly heard that RoS turned it into a different game and really imporved it, but I still never bothered with RoS.
When d2r was released I grabbed it when it was offered at a 50% discount and since RoS supposedly had improved d3 by a lot I decided to grab the complete edition (d2r d3 ros and the necromancer thingie).
I don’t know if I might get into d3 this time around, but I’d give it a shot and try out ros. And since I like builds which are accompanied by their own private army, I’m thinking about a pet build.
I’ve checked out maxroll’s tier lists - but they don’t tell me anything. So what would everyone’s suggestion be regarding a pet build for someone who hasn’t touched the game in a dozen years and will be 100% untwinked SSF? Mind I don’t really like how revives in d2 vanished after a while, I prefer permanent pets like skeletons, golems, the amazon’s valkyrie or the druid’s zoo.
So I’m looking at the WD or necro.
Now mind that I might not get past the loweset difficulty in case I dislike d3, and in this case the answer will probably be: The game is so easy on lowest difficulty, why u us bothering, n00b!?
Thank you!
And while we’re at it: IIRC, D3’s skill damage depended on the damage of the equipped weapon. Is this correct or is my memory playing tricks on me?
Was this later changed?
[And while not the d4 forums, how is it in d4? Like in d3 or like in d2 that skill damage is independant of weapon damage?]
The game can kindof be divided up into three phases:
level up to lvl 70
find the correct lvl 70 legendary and set pieces that work together in a build
continue grinding to optimise gear, accumulate paragon levels and eventually push leaderboards
The experienced try-hard players blast through the first two steps in a few hours at the start of each season, and all the tierlists from maxroll are made for late game players with near perfect gear and plenty of paragon points.
People enjoy the game in different ways though, and there is no right or wrong. It seems you’re mostly looking for pets in the leveling process for now (which takes many hours if played as intended), and for that I think it’s enough to just scroll through the skills at for example the blizz game guide https://eu.diablo3.blizzard.com/en-us/game/. I’d think the wd and necro are the best choices as you said. Note that unlike D2, nothing is locked in permanently, you are free to swap back and forth between skills as much as you want at no cost.
These pet focused builds are not at the top for very high end pushing, or for speeding through the levelling process, but any skills will take you through the campaign and 1 to 70, especially at lowest difficulty.
And yes, pet damage scales with your gear. Look at your sheet damage and sheet toughness. So most of the times you want to equip gear that increases those, especially damage.
