How do I see what rank I am? I have gotten some amulet drops that require rank 25 to activate their skills.
Legendary gems’ levels are increased by doing Greater Rifts. If you do a Greater Rift and complete it within 15 min. when Urshi appears you can click on her. A window will open where you can select a gem to upgrade. You can get 3, 4, or 5 upgrades. 3 if you don’t empower the rift and die during it. 4 either if you empower the rift and die at some point during it, or not empowered and you don’t die. Or 5 if you empower the rift and don’t die while completing.
You’ll have a percentage chance to upgrade gems. For a 100% chance to upgrade the gem, the Greater Rift will have to be at least 9 tiers above the level you upgrade the gem to.
So, it’s not your rank. It’s the gems rank that the game is talking about.
I appreciate this info Idolis. I still need to know how to improve my personal rank so that I can access specific skills not open to a mere rank 13 ( which is where I am) I am 155 Paragon level. I can’t do greater rifts higher then a t4. I am equipped with royal gems and set gear.
If you navigate back to the old forum, you will find a helpful guide in New Player Help written by storytime 42 called How to Farm…
Hopefully, someone will move it over here.
The rank is the individual Gems rank. To level it up, you need to do GRs successfully(defeat the rift guardian before time runs out). This will allow you to level up your legendary gems. The higher the GR level, the better chance of succeeding in the gem level. The higher the gem level, the higher GR you need to hit 100% success rate.
There is no “player rank” you can see in D3.
You have two kinds of levels
1.) your “normal” level, where 70 is the maximum. Usually, you can go from 1 to 70 in a few hours, even without power-leveling and stuff. During this process, more and more skills and different runes for the skills become available.
2.) your “paragon” level. This is just an increasing number, and with each level you can spend some points in different categories to become stronger.
The rank of legendary gems has nothing to do with this. You can use legendary gems whenever you want, even on level 1. However, you can “level” legendary gems by doing Greater Rifts. And once a gem reaches level (or rank, as it is called) 25, it becomes more powerful, as a secondary effect is activated. But you can use it before rank 25.
post is a little confusing. but Im sure if you need help gearing up ask in chat people are prolly willing to carry you for some levels/gear.
This as well. I don’t play often, and have what I would call “stupid questions”. General chat has been awesome in helping me figure out what needs done. Just because there are sometimes a few toxic people, don’t judge everyone there by them.
ty Sylax. Yes I was tempted to reply to a toxic post but Thank God the forums itself said I needed time to let others post blah blah blah. So I just bit my tongue. YES much more positives then the negative no it all.
Necroman666 are u suggesting I find a guild? I only saw two possibly active. I really find myself playing the wizzy only. Ive made all the others except Monk. Couldn’t get into it. I like wild Dps and move my feet off the stuff on the ground trying to kill me.So on the gems, should I go all intelligence with a damage gem in weapon - or sprinkle a couple resists?
In almost every case, an emerald in the weapon is the best choice. Only on the way to level 70 a ruby is better.
For armor, it depends on the class and your defense. Dex and Str classes can use emeralds/Rubies for more damage, or diamonds for more toughness. Int classes may use Topaz for more damage, or emeralds/rubies for more toughness.
In case I’m the one you’re calling a know-it-all, I do apologize for not understanding your post.
I’m pretty sure there are no amulets that have a level requirement for their powers to activate. So I assumed that you were talking about a legendary gem that was placed in the amulet. I guess that’s what I get for assuming.
Anyway, like I said, the only time I can think of that you wouldn’t be able to use the legendary power of an amulet is while leveling from 1-70 and you find, just an example, a level 61 item when you’re only level 60.
But you said later on that you’ve got paragon levels so I know that wasn’t what you were talking about.
But now, I’m not sure what you’re saying. So let me ask for some clarification…
Are you leveling up a second character and that character is only level 13?
But then that doesn’t make sense either since you had to level up the first character in order to get paragon levels so I’m guessing you know how to level.
At any rate, your post was a bit confusing and I’m sorry I misinterpreted what you meant.
If I understand correctly, the difficulty may lie in being able to level a gem up to 25.
Getting a gem to 25 requires completing Greater Rifts above 25 within the 15 minute limit.
What can help with that is finding some good Legendary powers to extract to the cube and finding Class Specific set pieces, which is why I recommended storytime42’s Farming Guide.
One more piece of Tal Rasha set will start bringing down Meteors and boost ability immensely.
Oh, now I get it!
You were asking how you could improve your build!
Man, I should have guessed that. I didn’t look at your profile and I guess I should have. I don’t know much about wizards but yessquire has good advice.
Another option since you’re only missing one piece for the two piece set bonus, you could run Act 1 bounties for the Ring of Royal Granduer. It would also come in handy when you find more pieces of the set because it lowers the piece requirement for set bonuses by 1 helping you to complete the set even if you haven’t found all the pieces.
OP, as a new D3 player, you should consider creating a new character and playing Season17, where you have a set of tasks/goals that you would normally be doing with starting/leveling new character. Focus on one class that you like to play. You can then use the seasonal roadmap to not only get a feel for how things need to be done, but it will reward you with one complete set for that class you are playing (only one set given per season) when you complete up to chapter 4. You can then use that set to farm for better gear.
As part of the season, there are goals to do Greater Rifts and level legendary gems.
Note: You need complete Normal Rifts to get Greater Rift Keystones. The higher difficulty level that you play will unlock associated Greater Rift levels you can access in the pull-down list (e.g., Torment 4 will unlock Greater Rift level 19).
If you want to increase your chances at upgrading gems, you can choose the empowered option that costs gold to add one additional chance. If you don’t die during the Greater Rift, you get 1 additional chance. So 3+1+1 upgrade chances are possible.
If you want to guarantee 100% success chance, you should select a Greater Rift level +10 above the current Gem level and tack on your total upgrade chances (e.g., current gem = 10, empowered option checked, greater rift 25 should be selected for 100% upgrade chance).
Google “diablo 3 upgrading legendary gems” and “diablo 3 season” for more info.
If you’re not playing seasons I would suggest that first. You get some extra bonuses along your season journey. Plus that’s where most players are. There are channels on your menus for power. Leveling/gear share/etc. Most wizards/classes this seasons are probably already fully geared so I’m sure they won’t mind sharing some loot. I play often enough you can me and if I’m on I don’t mind sharing some advice and gears and whatnot but regardless there is plenty of helpful players out there. Necroman666#1831 is my tag.
I guess you meant “legendary gem”, not “amulet”. The secondary bonus need the gem’s (not your hero’s) rank to be 25 to activate.
The rank is shown at upper right corner.

Others had told you how to level up gems.
Summon @storytime42 … where are you?

I finally understand why I was confused. The rank is the various gems I have whether in stash or on me. I was missing the solo greater rift ( empowered). I started with t1 and am up to t3 and can usually finish in under 10 min ( unless I get lost cause I was not careful enough to do the edges and missed an offshoot.
Yes this has been about getting the best build/gear for how I am playing. None of the seasonal set gear mimic my skill choices. Thanks all for your helpful advice.
on an offshoot - is there a link to various recipes one can get for different classes?
The other ting I was confused about is, when u complete a GF, it says rank 13 - which never has changed yet.
You meant build guides? These two are commonly referenced:
https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/
https://www.diablofans.com/
GF = Girl Friend? ![]()
Or you meant GR = Greater Rift.
After you kill the RG (rift guardian), Urshi will appear to level up your gems (if you kill RG within time limit). The upgrade is not guaranteed successful. The success chance is shown on the UI.
If the GR level is 10 or more higher than the gem’s rank, the chance is 100%.
Otherwise, the chance reduced accordingly.
e.g. your gem has rank 13, you need to complete GR23 to get 100%.
At rank 14, GR23 has only 90% success rate.
This is sort of correct but the number is off. At that example, a Greater Rift 23 has a 100% chance to upgrade to Rank 14. Lot’s of people just do 10, because it lines up with GR equivalents to Torment Levels and after that it’s just easier to think 10 instead of 9.
As another example. If his gem was rank 23 and he wanted to rank it up to rank 24. He could run a GR 23 and have the same 60% chance of an upgrade as running a GR 24.
