So my PC restarts itself the moment it loads the into “gameplay” when trying to play fullscreen on 3440x1440p.
Menus load fine (even with the black bars), there have been moments where the game loaded in its full glory of 3440x1440 (without black bars about 5% of my attempts) but PC soon resets itself.
I changed it to windowed mode into 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 and it works perfectly fine. Fullscreen mode wont let me change my resolution except its native 3440x1440.
Is there any fix to this or is anyone else having similar issues? Note that my PC restarts itself, the game doesnt give a crash log. This is the only game its ever done this.
PC specs;
- 8700k @ 5ghz
- 6800xt (latest driver)
- 16gb 3000 ram
- WIN10
Can you setup a profile for the game (Game.exe for D2R) under your AMD control panel to force the card to run at a specific FPS?
I have nvidia, and I have forced the game to run at 60FPS with vsync enabled via the nvidia control panel, since the game has no settings for this.
Just wondering if that could resolve your issue like it does with cards running too hot.
I couldnt find anything to make D2 run at 60fps on the AMD control panel but i changed all graphic settings to LOW and tried to run at full screen again and it restarted pc.
I had temp overlays on during the time and it never went over 50 degrees c - i dont mind if i have black bars since it doesnt fully support ultrawide but at the same time, when i do get it running at full screen 3440x1440, i do not get the black bars.
I am totally at a loss as to how this is causing my pc to restart based off the resolution alone!
Maybe something else is running that is interfering with it.
Hi, is your PSU capable enough? It seems that probably some protection is kicking in from its end as 6800xt can peak at 300W draw and as we determined last two days D2R Beta will try to squeeze every watt of power out of any higher end GPU.
There were definitely settings in Radeon control panel for FPS control, i just do not remember how and where they are located. Maybe the answer is somewhere around google.
Another thing which i found that helped me was not only to cap the FPS, but i have completely disabled vsync from nvidia settings and the game. Just left the G-sync of the monitor take care of the smoothing. Immediate 10 degrees drop in temps and few watts drop of power draw. Respectively, maybe only freesync shoul remain as active.
But even on the higher settings and default config, which is squeezing every possible piece of computing power from my GPU, my PSU can keep up quite well and the PC never restarts only the game crashes.
Edit: Its called Radeon Chill where you can set min / max frames → YouTube
I tried Chill and set it to 60fps max, turned off vsync in game and still same issue.
PSU is Corsair HX750i which should be plenty for my setup. As long as i run below 3440x1440 it runs fine but the best resolution i can play outside of 3440x1440 is 1920x1200
Just reporting that the game is working fine at 3440x1440 here, in case anyone is wondering if it is a game/server issue.
Do you have black bars on the sides during gameplay?
That is one very peculiar case…
The PSU is obviously well capable of handling this. Maybe you can check in windows event viewer logs for some clues around the times of restarts.
I guess you can also try to scan and repair the game from bnet app… Its worth a shot
Generally, you wont see it without bars, if i am not mistaken, other players raised this topic recently. It is just how it is implemented at the moment. But nonetheless, the game should be running, not restarting your PC…
I presume your desktop is running natively on this resolution and all in all the GPU is happy with it in the rest of the operations / games?
The game is supposed to have black bars even at 3440x1440, they are smoothed out fading to black at the very edges of the screen. I don’t think this game will allow for full wide all the way to 21:9 (its a middle ground between the two). I’ve read somewhere that devs wanted to support 21:9 but didn’t want to lose the narrow enemy view distance the player has, so I’m thinking that’s the solution they came up with (kinda sucks but better than 16:9)
See, when mine works, im at full 3440x1440 with no black bars! I get the black bars in the menus.
I have tried reinstalling the game, tried it on a different drive and done the repairs which found nothing.
Nothing runs out of the norm, I can run racing simulators and cyberpunk which would require more power than D2R. This I have checked temps, loads and so forth with no oddities so this is baffling to me.
Are you sure you don’t have the game fading out to back at the edges? Can you post a screenshot? I wouldn’t call them black bars, but they do have a fading effect ending in a blurred out black bar? Why would the game treat this differently for some people? Now I’m worried, XD.
I play in 3440x1440 and I have the black bars…given the number of complain on this subject, I really doubt you don’t have the infamous black bars I don’t find them so horrible btw…it’s just full 21:9 would be great, but hey…
Usually, a computer that reboots is a computer that overheats. Or with memory bars that are not matched to run together.
