Patch Notes Season 25

It’s been almost two months since season started. Isn’t it about time for the new patch notes and PTR?

I bet we see something in 2-3 weeks.

If they release the PTR notes before D2R, it’s additional advertising for the franchise, which may generate a few more pre-orders. on the other hand, if they do it after D2R launches, they will be less spread-thin, but may not get the same amount of testing (Not that they ever really cared about our PTR testing).

I guess it’ll depend on how interconnected the Diablo team is. It wouldn’t surprise me to see D3 support cut significantly now, and resources diverted to D2R.

For the most part D2R is finished, if anything the majority of the D2R developers might move on to D4.

Disagree. Definite changes coming to D2R. The question is the width and breadth of those changes that will be made. My understand is VV is responsible for graphical changes/updates to D2R, but Blizzard will implement actual gameplay changes coming down the pipe (after launch).

VV moved over to Blizzard with 200 people, it does not take that many to patch a 21 year old game with a face lift. If I recall they already said that some of them (VV) were working on D4. MissC might know more. VV job posting for D4 are already showing up. A job listing on Blizzard’s website revealed that Vicarious Visions was looking for a writer for Diablo IV. I would assume the D3 team is very small no need to cut it anymore for D2R.

That is my current understanding. VV is focused right now on D2R but will be working on D4 after that. Does not mean there are no options for D3, just that the main focus for the VV studio is D4. They have quite a few job postings for D4 on their website.

VV is also continuing to work out of their NY office spaces (or homes if they allow that).

If season 24 is planned to last for approximately 3 months, then we should be seeing the next ptr within the next few weeks.

As for whether it’ll be before or after D2R’s launch is anyone’s guess.

D4 and D2R consume resources.
D3 will be abandoned eventually. Perhaps current season is the last ever season. :+1:

MissC do you happen to know how many people are still working on D3? I know that some of the trolls like to say that it is just one intern. Which was disproved by Blizzard recently when they referenced the Diablo III team. :point_left:

Incredibly unlikely. Even in the event that they stop updating the game, they would continue to provide seasons, just as Diablo 2 still has ladder resets even when they receive little to no updates.

If S24 is ~3 months, that means the estimated end date is October 17th. So that means the PTR could start September 23rd and last 2 weeks, then 1+ week for internal testing and finalizing the patch, S24 ends on October 17th and patch out on the 19th.

It fits.

Maybe not in this season. It was obvious that they were now concentrating on D2R launch, so anything side project will be put aside.

I have the feeling that this season will run for at least 5 months.

I just started the season so no. At least 5 more months.

We have no idea. Frankie Lee is mentioned. Don Vu, according to his Linked In, is still on D3. Unknown why changes are so minimal and lackluster with two “senior” devs working on the game. With PS4, PC, and XBox all on different platforms, though, I’m sure it’s harder than we understand.

But not THAT hard to change numbers.

I only just finished the season this evening. You inpatient people that burn through it in a couple of days and then just want a reset after two months… honestly, go out and play football or something.

Are you nuts? I sleep wrong and ache for 3 days, let alone football!

If it goes on for 5 more months, that would make it the longest running season to date (at nearly 7 months). And I doubt that’ll happen.

One thing is certain:

Witch Doctor will receive more unnecessary nerfs and all current pets will be considered not-pets, with even more absurd reliance on Lakumba and Harvester.
