I thought the RMAH was removed because there were legal issues in some countries since it used IRL M.
Were you able to do item4item trades in the GAH or only trade for gold?
A purely i4g AH isn’t great, just look at how trades in D2R are handled at outside trading sites - it’s i4i.
The RMAH was primarily removed due to players being unhappy with it. They believed it was pay to win and thought that it was primarily taking away from the “go find it yourself” aspect of the ARPG genre of the game. As a secondary reason it was also to prevent legal issues in the future related to the real money currency and potential lawsuits but there has never been any openly available legal cases that they ended up losing or anything… that was floating around as the reason for a while but never confirmed.
GAH was purely gold for items, item for item trading was allowed directly between players but not through an AH system.
The AH system in general, was implemented initially to try and reduce the third party website trading that was rampant in D2. However websites like D2JSP were still commonly used during that time as well due to the RMAH having only a 250 dollar limit on individual items.
The most expensive item ever sold from D3 was an echoing fury with almost perfect stats. It sold for over 40 billion gold, which translated to over 14-15 thousand USD (However it was sold after the AH systems were removed, so they would have had to use a third party site to exchange it into real currency)
D3 was dying till loot 2.0, in case you forgot.
I mean it’s not like I think the majority of people are going to flock to this in the first place, but a niche group of players that enjoyed it like myself would prolly pay money to be able to experience it again. It’s not like I’m asking for the game to be reverted back to its original state, only for the opportunity to play it again.
Like once a great thinker said “You think you do, but y–”… Wait… Nevermind. Diablo 3 classic sounds awesome but there are a few caveats. Game changed so much in its first few months, that raises a question of what you deem as “classic”. Some liked version 1.0.4 and some 1.0.8; it’s actually hard to estimate the taste of entire player base.
Way back before some complete overhauls, the original five classes, had a wide variety in their elemental damage types, different utilities for resource management and inflicting crowd control. Each class, had some dedicated passive ability to counter or cover up for lacking crowd control impunity in classic; which either changed to something else or replaced completely, since they had given new skills with Reaper of Souls.
Some abilities and items completely changed along the time, or didn’t even exist back then. On top the lack of CdR%, RcR% and AD%; Topaz on helm granted gold find, Diamonds didn’t exist. While it was nerfed into obscurity after quite a few patches, Increased Attack Speed% and Life Steal% were overpowered and ChD% still appeared on weapons.
Most importantly, the flashy Set items you all loved so much was so weak, they had almost no impact on gameplay. There wasn’t Ring of Royal Grandeur, nor any legendary gems. Lacking in diversity, every class was equipped with Inna’s pants, Tal Rasha chest, Mempo of Twilight and sometimes Natalya’s ring and mask. Each effective build actually formed as if they’re LoD/LoN builds of today.
However, the idea was changing your entire build around as you upgrade your equipment. You found or traded something that is an upgrade for one aspect of your character? You are bound to test which weakness it covers, and shift your skill runes as you see fit.
General formula given by Jay Wilson was; one highest damage dealer upon a large area, life sustain, defense buff, crowd control and single target damage. You ought to follow this formula but have to mind which attribute you can cover better at a base level from your items, as you get better equipment while you shift your skill runes. This was actually a pretty neat idea but it was never communicated to the player, clearly, where they can be aware of this.
In short, grinding something was actually a slog as everything shifts so fast around your rather complicated builds. Everything enraged so fast and damaged you so fast that you can not survive without exploiting crowd control for a long while. That initiates a very slow grinding process for finding the right piece to complete your flow.
While it can be a fun experiment, reward system in classic was wildly imbalanced and non-existant. It was solely built on magic find and gold find, which was actually kind of worthless in classic mode besides buying stuff from Gold Auction House. At one point, we had Nephalem Valor system which slowly ramped up and rewarded us with magic find instead of a good item or a guaranteed legendary item of sorts. For finding strong legendary items, you have to farm lower level areas repeatedly because experience gain didn’t mean much .
On that gold subject; I don’t think Blizzard would be a fan of the idea of creating more third party markets, so ditch any hope of playing Auction House and avoiding taxes in case you have any.
So again, this raises a few question about which experience you like the best and which version you deem as “classic”. Because I’m willing to bet that nobody would want the buggy 1.0.0 version of Diablo 3 after a decade.
There are plenty of good games waiting for you to experience why nostalgia?
Absolutely, 100% AGAINST any such idea.
Vanilla D3 was atrocious. Reaper of Souls still struggles to escape the original’s reputation.
I would love a “remaster” of D3 in its current state, though, if only to showcase how far it has come, drum up some interest, and maybe get some new content in the pipeline.
I think Blizzard is working on a D3 remaster. I mean, why stop at D2R when you can keep resurrecting every Diablo game? Soon we’ll get to relive the joy of Error 37 in glorious 4K, but this time with ray tracing!
Because why fix the new when you can just remaster the old? It’s the Blizzard way™ - if it made money once, it’ll make money twice!
Without offline mode and RoS included I’m not interested in remaster
