With the sale on items, I opted to purchase the original Diablo-1, which I’d never played. When I ran it, it posted an error box, stating that it “required Direct X 3.0 to operate and if I needed help upgrading to 3.0 to contact Microsoft for assistance.”
Is there a workaround for this, or can I get my ~$8 back? I guarantee I won’t be “UPGRADING” to 3.0 anytime in the near future.
I have the original D3 on another account. It work’s fine, even after a fresh format and reinstall of Windows (Win10) last week.

Not D3. D-ONE. Did you mean D-1? Original Diablo won’t play at all on my computer.
D3 plays just fine, as does D2.

WC1, WC2 and D1 are not kept up to date so that’s not suprising. They are essentially sold as-is from the time of the last patch they received. They only way to get them working is through a handful of community made patches that you have to find and apply yourself.
It’s better to buy D1 (and WC1 & WC2) from GoG.com. They update and maintain it to run on modern systems.
Thank you for that info! I’ll look into a replacement version. I’ve uninstalled the current one, since it’s non-functional. Seems a bit… disingenuous… to sell a known non-functioning product, even if it was just under $8.

I suggested to Bliz that they at least put a disclaimer on those three games along the lines of: they are old and not maintained and are “as is”. But, they don’t seem to think they need it.
