Offline pc mode for people with intermittent internet

I bought Diablo 3 and have tried my best to enjoy this awesome game,I also own D1 and D2,However I am only able to get internet on my phone. this has caused me so much frustration as my phone will disconnect randomly . I will get 4/5 of a bounty or halfway through a rift and it will disconnect and it is making me miserable. I am begging Blizzard to release a offline version of D3 . I do not want to play with others and i do not need all the bells and whistles. I love D3but find myself not wanting to playin fear of disconnection. So I am here begging for a offline version or a home server .I know Blizzard Does not really care and no one will read this , but I am trying anyway.

So you have no way to pay for a broadband internet connection?

Are you still living with your parents and that is reason for poor internet?

I used to know people that lived in the country, that were miles away from any power or telephone lines.

Is this you?

I really want to know if you just don’t want to pay for it or you can’t.

What does any of that matter? How much money do you make, where do you live, what did you eat for dinner and can I borrow your cc, hows your life? I really want to know.

LoL you are not reading the words carefully friend.

FACT:
If one does not have a broadband internet connection available then one cannot play online D2 or D3 and in the future not able to play D4.

I showed many reasons in my first post why a person cannot play online.

And, I kindly asked OP to tell us what his problem is.

The only reason I know of to ask for an offline version of an online game is to hack it.

no I live in a place incapable of getting broadband I am dirt poor and live in a caravan park that dose not have any internet… and I am sorry for my position in life if I could change it I would. Oh I have never had an interest in playing any of the Diablo series online. I still frequently play D1 and occasionally play D2.

You are defiantly one person that would benefit from an offline version.

I wish you well!

Look buying a game that is online only and you knew it when you know that you don’t have the internet connected needed for stable play is not a good reason to give the PC version an offline mode. That is not happening at this stage in D3’s life. D3 is not the only game that you won’t be able to play due to no internet.

There are other games that you can buy that have offline mode or offline only.

Devils Advocate
If the internet connection works fine “for everything else”, how does one “know” that the internet connection is stable enough to play D3/D4?

It took me a bit to realize that the OP might have a cellphone hotspot for internet connection.
I wouldn’t try an online gzme with G4

G5 might work. But, one will still have to worry about “stable” connection.
Eg does the dynamic IP have a short TTL?

I read it, Blizzard does care, but it’s not happening.

There are numerous topics covering all the myriad reasons.

I empathize with you, but maybe this isn’t the game for you. I hear Wolcen has an offline mode.

Reverse Devil’s Advocate: Phone internet connections aren’t that good.

I know that. You know that.

But someone that doesn’t know the difference between a buffered connection (YouTube) and unbuffered connection (D3) isn’t going to know what “bad internet” is until it bites them on the a$$. (usually, post purchase of their first data-intensive online game)

Then again, it is up to the purchaser to read and understand what the minimum requirements are and decide if their system meets it.

I did know it was online but decided to try it anyway and why because I have been playing Diablo since it was released . I am a 50 year old man that has loved the Diablo franchise and still does, I still play Diablo 1 very regularly . that is over 20 years playing Diablo . Do not tell me that " maybe this is not the game for me".
I have never played online and have no desire to. and do not tell me blizzard cares , it was in part my money that helped them get where they are (warcrasft
2 @ 3 , Starcraft) , I have been a faithful blizzard customer for a long long time.
All I want is to play the game I love. and there are several ways Blizzard could both help and make money, for example I would purchase a completely offline version (quite happily (to stop online cheaters)) or a server that ran off my computer (also would purchase quite happily) and I am quite fine about never being allowed to go online. I would like to believe that there is more people than me who feel the same. Sorry if this got a bit heated but it was a great disappointment to see a lot of the negative comments . If it doesn’t happen then it doesn’t happen but I thought I would ask .

oh nearly forgot , it runs fine its just the sudden dropouts that are causing major frustration.

P.S thank you will look at Wolcen Lords of Mayhem as i am not prepared to buy D4 which makes me sad like when you break up with a partner.

Then the game is not for you. Move on.

Dynamic IP addresses could drop you on renewal.

I believe cell phone based IPs have short TTLs. (Moving to different tower might do it too)

Overall- cell based internet is not good for games like D3.

D3 is on classic"s support. I doubt Blizz will put any effort into an offline mode.

As far as D4, i can only remind you that blizz already said “no”. So, dont get your hopes up.

American internet infrastructure is nowhere near where it needs to be to really dive into this mandatory online policy that gaming is creeping toward. It isn’t just a matter of being too poor to move outside an area without coverage. It’s about ISPs looking at chunks of land and not seeing they’re worth investing in. What this eventually amounts to is pockets of third-world societies within our very borders, but instead of helping them out and understanding their needs, which honestly goes beyond internet connectivity, it’s a hell of a lot easier to just point fingers and say they should bootstraps themselves out of the mess.

Nonetheless, for all the chicken little’ing about how offline modes invite piracy or hacking, I’ve yet to see a compelling reason for why any solo-capable game should be non-functional without an online component, and otherwise comes off as regurgitating corporate spin on the issue. Gamer/consumer rights also go beyond this, but that’s another subject I’m not really in the mood for right now and can predict it’ll just be the same talking heads defending it all, anyway.

While they would make money off you, their big fear is losing a ton of money from people acquiring pirated copies and that is why PC won’t get an offline mode. Sorry to say, the only way you are going to be able to play D3 offline is to get the game on console.

Gonna tell you that. Franchises change and companies change their policies. D1 and D2 were games for you. D3 and D4 are not. Well, unless you have a console. Then you can play D3 offline.

By that logic, American computer infrastructure wasn’t where it needed to be for computer gaming to start when it did. More of America’s population have broadband Internet now than had computers at all in the mid 90s - let alone computers capable of running a lot of the games. But that didn’t stop companies from making computer games then.

I mean… there’s obviously enough infrastructure present for gaming companies to make profits on online-only games. Otherwise they wouldn’t consider doing it. And when you consider that some of the most profitable games in history are online, well… yeah.

I don’t even think we’re creeping toward mandatory online. The AAA companies might be, but that’s because they’re capable of supporting their own infrastructure to a large extent. Luckily for us, the AAA companies aren’t the only ones making games worth playing… and the vast majority of games are still offline.

Buy a console and enjoy your offline mode as much as you like.

On PC, losing people like you as a customer is NOTHING compared to losing tens of millions to piracy.

Stating plain logical things - is not “being scum”. Being scum - is when you support a “superior platform” misconception when they struggle with money already when there are cheaper options that are just as good in many ways and better in many others. suyre you don’;t get the graphics fidelity of a good PC - but if you already struggle for money, PC loses even that.

So you bought a game, didn’t care for the requirements and now you want to complain about it? Yes you are an american.

Grow up and take responsibility for your choices instead of whining about not living in a proprous and civilized region with proper infrastructure, which affects your ability to enjoy online commodities. Either get out there and fight for your right to good internet connection where you live or simply move to a better place. It is not the game developers problem, and it is written as a requirement.

4G works fine for gaming. It handles datapackages very well and has pretty low ping. Wouldn’t use it in an FPS like CS:GO or CoD. But D3 and LoL it handles just fine. And the speed is more than enough for gaming. Often however the issue is that your phone is not set up to properly work as a modem, so it causes delays. If you have a true 4G modem, it works just aswell as a phonecord, but with higher speed.

3G on the other hand is a tad too unstable. Too high ping for gaming in general.
