Not very inclusive leaving Africa without a server

Crazy that they just leave an entire continent without a server. Not inclusive at all.

This is just nuts in this day and age. No excuse to not have a server for paying customers. We pay the same but get a lesser experience. Not great at all!

I urge any South African who sees this to come and post on Reddit. In fact I urge anyone who is interested in helping put the word out.

Help us all enjoy the future of Diablo :slightly_smiling_face:

Given the most likely data paths, it’d make the most sense for Africa to use the EU servers, maybe the SEA/ANZ servers depending on whether or not the data travels through a landline fiber cable or oceanic fiber cable. AFAIK Africa has no dedicated servers for any of Blizzard’s games.

you say that at the same time that less than 25% of the country has internet. Probably from one of the 20 air conditioned rooms in your house with running water and refrigerators.

Wonder how much difference could be made if those in Africa with wealth actually cared about those that dont. The reason the government is unstable is not because of the poor, it’s because of the wealthy and the corporations they sold out to like it that way. There’s no control over them. And there’s not much in the form of middle class in African countries. But hey, moneybags needs a fast ping to diablo.

I don’t think it has anything to do with being inclusive, but more to do with the infrastructure in Africa being less than ideal.

I’m sure that Blizzard isn’t the only gaming company to not have Africa dedicated servers either.

Not sure what the ping/lag is like playing from Africa to another location, but I play on the Euro realm from the US quite often and it works fine, even though the latency can be 200-300+ most of the time.

Absolutely awful idea. ANZ connect to NA so you’d be sending data across not only the Indian Ocean but also Australia (pretty big country, mate!) AND the Pacific Ocean. Pings of a few seconds might be problematic. :joy:

Also, this is the third thread created about this topic by the guy in a few days. I saw Leviathan give them a warning to stop it… Let’s see how that goes.

I bless the lags down in Aaaaafricaaaaa…

I live in a 2 bedroom home with no air conditioning.

I have a fan if that counts 🫣

No, what’s crazy is that you think constantly making duplicate threads about this is going to result in them suddenly standing up a new server farm for Africa rather than handing you a forum infraction…

This is your fourth thread about exactly the same subject. Pay attention to…

The infrastructure in the continent of Africa historically speaking has been an issue for a plethora of reasons largely due to the origins of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade in the late 1400s not only by EU but also from from within the deep indigenous regions as means of survival leading up to the bloom of the sugar cane, gold and cotton rush in the west.

So we all generally know of racism in America of course, well imagine… Sort of globalized systemic “continentalism” by the similar standard. Africa was simply the continent to pull the short straw in history regardless of race, creed, or religion.

EDIT: Addition* (This also saddens me)

Why they don’t put servers in Saudi Arabia?

North Africa would do EU, while the rest SA. The latency should be below 80ms for fiber in both routes.

I am pretty sure Wakanda has their own server.

Ooooo is this a new personality?

Are you fighting for the little guys against the rich now?

I look forward to seeing where you lot this is the rotation.

It’s going to depend on the route. That will determine which servers are better suited for play. Some of Blizzard’s games, primarily WoW, actually have ANZ servers in addition to SEA servers. You can change the server pool for D3 via the D3Prefs.txt file and a specific CVAR. This system was implemented to allow the player to find and stick with the server pool with the best latency possible. South Africa’s physical geolocation is why I mentioned having the EU and ANZ/SEA options. Sadly the SA region is going to get hit with higher latency regardless due to location and pathing issues.

Geopolitics and reginal laws regarding data transmission and censorship. More the latter than the former, but both play a role. Few people would trust a Qatar-based datacenter.

In an ideal world we’d have roughly equally spaced datacenters so no matter where you live you would have relatively the same latency as someone living somewhere else when using the best datacenter for your location.

You make it sound like they are aborigines.

SA are way more ahead in many aspects than people generally think. I am sure there would be a way to integrate a secure environment there.

It’s not a question of “not possible” rather resources Blizzard don’t want to spend.

It isn’t a matter of secure, it’s a matter of data control and their laws. It’s similar in nature to why US does not have access directly to China based servers and vice versa.

SA have strict laws, but far from the level of China. They are also way more open to business investments from outside world or making an exception whenever a good opportunity presents.

AU is part of US region, it gains no advantage for Africa to connect to AU vs directly routed to NA distance wise. AU get 180-280 ping on NA and 300-380 ping to SA. If the ping is not desirable routing to EU, then NA(AU) will not be much better if not worse. Asia server provides them no advantage either as its based in Taiwan/Seoul. D3 SEA is AU by default unless they are Asia region accounts.

If enough Africans buy it. The servers will come…

i was connected to an operation in Nigeria with canadian JTF2 in Nigeria back in the early 2000’s. I’m still close friends with some of the people there. Not much has changed. Do you know how much 1 billion from the $54 billion we’ve committed to Ukraine would help the people of Nigeria? But no, we just take 90% of their oil and keep their government in conflict. Those kids have never even known the feeling of something like 4 player split screen Goldeneye or a Steam summer sale or a Diablo sequel release night…

So “broken”? Fixed spawn points with a fixed rotation on which you spawn at basically meant the first guy who died lost.
