When I get a second set item that I already own, do I a) salvage it? b) Skill of Nilfur it in the Cube? c) sell it? d) something else?
Thanks!
(I assume c would be the worst … )
In general, you want to just salvage it if it is not an upgrade.
No need to sell it as mats (especially forgotten souls) are far more valuable than gold.
Convert set in the cube isn’t very useful unless you are missing set pieces from the same set. The recipe won’t allow you to get ancients or Primals, so the upgrade potential is small.
In case it’s not part of a Set that require you to get a Set dungeon page to unlock an Altar node later, and it’s not an upgrade to yours, just salvage it.
speaking of which, according to maxroll number 19 " 4 Set Dungeon Pages" " Acquire 4 full unique 6 piece sets for different classes" - does that mean I need to create and level 4 different classes?
No, you can do it with one class. But make sure you’re collecting for the sets that have set dungeons. Each class has a “new” set that does not have a set dungeon. Also, to make life easier for yourself, if you wear/cube Ring of Royal Grandeur, you only need to wear five pieces of each set
You don’t need to do that. Just collect different Sets and keep them for a while. Remember, there are only five Sets per class and only four of them have Set Dungeon pages. So unless you use the only one with no Set Dungeons, you only need to collect three other Sets.
In case you are equipped with the Set that doesn’t have a dungeon then you will need to keep the rest of the Sets stored somewhere until you can pay a visit to the tome.
When you have all four Set Dungeon related Set pieces, cram them in your inventory and pay a visit to the Dungeon Tome in the Royal Quarters of Leoric’s Manor. Remember, there’s a scribe in a small room full of skeletons but a rather deserted library room houses the Dungeon Tome. When you located it, just wear 5-piece of each Set with RoRG in your cube then click the Tome, repeat as needed until you have all four pages of Set Dungeons.
To supplement the information given above about sets, dungeons and pages
Unfortunately the new Class Sets don’t have Set Dungeons: Horde of the Ninety Savages, Aegis of Valor, Gears of Dreadlands, Patterns of Justice, Masquerade of the Burning Carnival, Mundunugu’s Regalia and The Typhon’s Veil
Love these short to-the-point questions, this is the way to learn, well done!
- never sell anything to vendors, always salvage at blacksmith.
- page 4 of the cube is great for completing your first class 6-set bonus, so do use that if it will help you get the first complete 6-set bonus. So after you got the 6-piece set you want to play at first, don’t use page 4, because it cant give you good rolls (ancients), and it’s kindof expensive on souls that you can put to better use with page 2 a bit later on.
- As ppl said above, keep drop from all class sets (except the newest set, from the list above, that isn’t needed if you don’t want to play it) for the altar, but don’t use page 4 to complete anything but the first. You’ll get the drops eventually, you don’t need the set pages until quite late, and you will have all sets completed by then if you save the (unique) pieces. You’ll only need 5 pieces anyway, as you will have ring of royal grandeur at that point.

As others have said, Salvage it. You should never sell anything unless it’s something that cannot be salvaged and you don’t want to keep it. (Or throw it on the ground and leave it).
If the new one you pick up is better than the one you have equipped, keep it and salvage the old one. If you decide to play Hardcore you might want to equip the best one and Stash the other one in case of death.
Just to be clear, the Seal you’re referring to is the Reach Seal. It can be reached (no pun intended) as the 6th Seal depending on what path you take.
However, I must admit that it is always, so far, the 19th Seal that I unlock.
Correct.
The cost of unlocking nodes only depend on how many you’ve unlocked. Which node you’re unlocking doesn’t matter. So the order of the costs will always be the same.
So at that point you’ve already soloed a GR100 (I think?), and should’ve been farming T16 visions a fair bit.
Yes. But, if I choose to unlock the Reach Seal as the 6th Seal, then it would cost me 1 each of the Hellfire Mats. Not 4 Set Dungeon Pages.
That was my point.
I’m confused, who was talking about the reach seal? that’s the progress orb PUR one right? I think we’re just confusing each other here, and probably orcinus as well.
Everyone who used the phrase “19th Seal” and “4 Set Dungeon Pages” in the same sentence.
Yes, the Reach Seal is. But, you DO NOT have to unlock 18 Seals to get to it. Although, most players do.
Here’s an example of unlocking the Reach Seal as the 6th Seal:
If I choose this path it will cost me:
1 | Leoric’s Regret | |
1 | Vial of Putridness | |
1 | Idol of Terror | |
1 | Heart of Fright |
If I wait to unlock the Reach Seal as the 19th Seal it will cost me 4 Pages from the Tome of Set Dungeons.
Same Seal, different cost.
The exception to the Salvage advice is Hardcore Mode.
Having backup pieces is sometimes necessary.
Except people that pick a path with a different node as the 19th node.
Everyone will pay 4 set dungeon pages for the 19th node they unlock, independently what node that is, so those two will always come together, but not always together with the PUR node.
I’m so confused, you keep saying that everyone pick that node as the 19th, and then keep saying that you don’t have to. I think I picked reach earlier than 19:th, but really not sure, and who knows what path OP will chose. Anyway, doesn’t matter I guess.
You are correct.
My apologies to everyone.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me today. My brain must be on vacation.
Ok, ok, all good, no worries, happy we sorted it out. It was clear that one of us had missed something, I was just trying to understand if it was me. Sunday brain!
it would have. But I hadn’t read on the forums for hte past 12 or 13 hours, so saw your (Perusoe and you) whole discussion first. So all good.
All good, all good.
I’ve had worse.
Actually you have to do it with one class. If I remember correctly you can not mix pages from different classes to unlock the seal.
As far as the altar of rites goes the only things you can’t grind out in a short amount of time are:
- Challenge rift cache
- primal ashes
Challenge Rift reward only happens once per week and if you already used it, you’re waiting for next Monday to get another.
Of course primal drops are really low so getting all those ashes takes a long time. At least with my luck.
There really isn’t any wrong altar choices because by the time you’re done everything is selected anyways. Personally I go for all the QoL options first.
ETA: there are a few items like the (like the staff of herding) that take more time but you can plan for those in advance and they won’t be needed until later in the rites list. Ultimately if you don’t have one when you need it, that’s on you.
