New wizard set idea

Given Blizzards’ recent post about a potential new set for each class, I thought I’d share what I’d like to see in the new wizard set.

I really love black hole. In reality, it’s the most powerful force in the universe. Sadly, this isn’t reflected in D3 where it’s damage is lacklustre. As such I’d like to see a new set based around black hole.

Not really concerned with the 2 piece or 4 piece bonus (4 piece would be the standard something t double eHP) so my idea is mainly around the 6 piece bonus.

I would love a set that would make Black Hole feel really powerful. Increase it’s cooldown significantly (to the point where even with max cooldown, it would still take at least 30 seconds to cast so base cooldown of 3 minutes perhaps) but also increase its damage massively.

The idea is black hole would feel really powerful when you finally get to cast it. This would also allow mirror image to have a use as your images would be able to cast black hole once per image (black hole would be increased to the point that even the black holes cast by images would do reasonable damage) and it would feel amazing when you finally get to cast your real black hole.

Further, teleport fracture with aether walker would allow for multiple black hole casts (from the images) in rapid succession. Other synergistic items would be Etched Sigil (for the bonus black hole) and Deathwish (to further buff the bonus black hole, may work with images casts as well, not sure).

What do you think of this idea and what would you guys like to see in the new wizard set?

Hard pass on longer CDs.

3 min cooldown?? OMG! NO!!!

I already dislike 1+ min CD.

Besides, BH is already widely used as a powerful utility. There are many unused skills that could use some attention first.

I would like to see an Elemental Specialist Wizard set, so a set that allows you to specialize in a single element, like a reversed Tal Rasha set.

For example:

  • 4 piece bonus: For example: When you have at least 4 skills of the same element on you skill-bar, you gain xx% damage reduction… or something like that…

  • 6 piece bonus: For each lightning skill you have on your skill-bar, you gain x.xxx% increased lightning damage. For each frost skill on your skill-bar you gain x.xxx% increased frost damage. Same for fire and arcane. — OR — When you have at least 4 skills of the same element on you skill-bar, gain xxxx% increased damage to that element.

Than things like a pure Frost Mage, a Lightning Mage, an Arcane Mage or a non-Firebird Fire Mage could become a thing.

Simple:
Increase all frost dmg by x% when using Frost armor, all lighting dmg by x% when using lighting armor, and all arcane dmg by x% when using arcane armor.

Since you can’t use more than one elemental armor at a time, it’d only buff one element. And since there’s no fire armor; it wouldn’t step on Firebird’s niche.

That is indeed an interesting idea, but you have to keep in mind that Firebird is still by far the set with the worst mechanic in the entire game, so that would leave fire Wizards in kind of a bad place.

But the thought of a set that revolves around the armors is indeed not too bad either.

They can also just lower the amount of stacks in firebird from 20 to 5 and the set would instantly be good and comfortable to use.

Regardless, we kind of already have a “frost set” in DMO, given that it’s usually played with frozen orb. And Vyr is usually played as Lighting archon.

I know it’s not the same as allowing any available rune of each element to be part a set; but it’s kind of how it was in D2 (fire Sorc did not have a ‘fire orb’ and frost Sorc did not have a ‘frost meteor’)

What I’d much rather have is more set and legendary support for Hydra, Mirror Images, and Familiar.

That would certainly improve it a lot.

Yeah, but as you say, that is more like a Frozen Orb set, rather than a frost set. Ray of Frost? Frost themed runes for Arcane Torrent, Meteor, Blizzard, etc? Nope, sadly not. DMO is at least for me personally not enough to qualify as a frost set.

I see, but that is also more of an Archon set, rater than a lightning set…

I also would like to see Hydra being more useful.

Hydra even has a potential to be a main mechanic in an elemental specialist set:

  • 2 piece bonus: increases the maximum amount of Hydras you can have active at the same time by x
  • 4 piece bonus: each active Hydra reduces your damage taken by xx%
  • 6 piece bonus: for each active Hydra, gain x.xxx% increased damage (to the same element that the Hydra is).

… and a legendary, probably the serpent wand, that increases the number of acive Hydras even further and also increases the damage of Hydra.

Sounds like you want to do an LoN-type build. That’s what I want to do, I want to combine an LoN Freeze type build, but I need Rimeheart and Winter Flurry to interact with Halo of Arlyse.

if Winter Flurry gave you all runes of Frost Nova, and Rimeheart deal 400% damage to frozen enemies, you might be able to build around that, with Halo freezing everything.
