As I replay through this current version of D3 - I have stumbled into a number of ‘odd’ items. Earliest example was the Black Mushroom. Holding these takes inventory space.
Is there any in game use of these items ? (recovered three so far).
They don’t appear to socket into things??

That is item for staff of Herding
You first need the Plan: Staff of Herding, which drops randomly from Izual in Act IV
Black Mushroom: Found on Cathedral Level 1 (Act I)
Leoric’s Shinbone: Found in the entry hall of Leoric’s Manor (Act I)
Wirt’s Bell: Purchased directly from Squirt the Peddler in the Hidden Camp (Act II)
Liquid Rainbow: Obtained from a Mysterious Chest in the Mysterious Cave in the
(Act II)
Gibbering Gemstone: Drops from Chiltara in the Caverns of Frost on Level 2 (Act III, Fields of Slaughter)
Plus those item take up 5 spaces. WOW If can’t keep that in stash you holding onto stuff really don’t need.

You can’t sell or salvage the Staff of Herding items. Keep one of each and you can drop the extras on the ground before you leave the game.
Staff of Herding is useful in Season at the late stages of unlocking the Altar. Using it in game opens a very weak version of the Portal that a Rainbow goblin opens.
