New Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Driver issues

Just submitted this ticket to support. Thought I would post this here too to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar, and may have a solution.

Hello, I am having issues with BattleNet Games with the newer Nvidia drivers.

Recently, just before the beginning of Season 18 of Diablo 3 I was getting prepared for the season. I hadn’t played the game in quite some time, so I was just playing on my non seasonal characters a bit. Everything was fine at that point.

I am using a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 video card, and at the time I was using driver version 431.60. On August 20th, a new driver version became available (436.02), so I updated, and then I started to have critical issues launching Diablo 3 and all other BattleNet games. The game will launch and I can hear the sound, but no picture is displayed. I am unable to tab out or even reach the task manager to close the game that way, I am forced to manually power off my PC to restart.

I tried Starcraft 2, and Heroes of the Storm and had the same issue. So I rolled back my drivers to 431.60. This did not solve the issue. Finally i uninstalled the drivers and did a manual clean install of version 431.60. After this, all games were launching as normal. So i have stayed on this version.

Every so often I would have one issue specifically with Diablo 3 where the game would freeze when I first load a game on my character ( i see the image of me in town, and the picture is frozen). I have to manually shut off PC to solve this as well. It was beginning to happen more often, so I decided to try to update my drivers to the newest version, hoping the launching issue from before had been solved. At this time, the newest version available was 436.30. I had the exact same issue as before, where no BattleNet game would launch. So I again had to do a clean install of version 431.60.

So now I have just been dealing with Diablo 3 freezing on entering a game every so often, but I was hoping to find a solution to this problem, as none of the newer driver versions seem to be working with BattleNet games. I play many games through the BattleNet app, and I’m wanting to pre-purchase Warcraft 3 Reforged so I can start playing the classic versions while I wait for the release. However this issue is becoming more frustrating, and I don’t want to have issues with the game down the road, so I’m hoping you can help me find a solution to this.

Sorry for the long post. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide with this. I spend more time playing Blizzard games than probably all other publishers combined, and I’m really hoping you can help me. Thanks!

You could remove all versions of your GPU drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller, and then get the older version from nVidia’s website.

Oh yes, I did do that, and I have been playing with the older version. It’s an okay fix for now, but there have been like 3 or 4 new driver releases since then, and the issue still seems to happen with any version newer than this one. I would like to eventually upgrade my drivers. Hopefully they are able to find a solution for me. Cheers!

Sorry guys the anwer you had was propably just a bot that give preset answer from the algoritms. I am going to give you answer out of the box that they propably wont like.
Uninstall ur windows 10 and use 7 instead its still a good os and maybe even faster than win10 that takes more memory ect if you have like 8gt memory.

To play older games like sc2 and diablo3 just use drive that is something like 390 ect… starting with 3… no need 4 ect they are just for direct x 12 games. cheers m8

[Solved]
Hi all. Just wanted to say that Blizzard responded to my ticket and gave me a solution that fixed the issue. Rather than upgrading to the newest driver, they had me do a complete driver uninstall using a Display Driver Uninstaller. Then I installed the newest driver. Issue seems to be completely resolved. As for the random D3 freezes, I will have to wait and see, but so far, so good.

Hi there, bumping this as a friend of mine is having very similar issues on a mobile 1070. May i ask what version of the driver/date of driver you ended up using?

PS nVidia releases new drivers almost every month. Just go to their download site and grab it.
