Romulan cloaking device back on

We’re getting one going in the Barb forum, mostly to test it all out.

Does this apply to appealed forum suspensions that were later overturned? I only ask because I might have been forum-banned for a day back in early 2014!

For more context on what I did, in early 2014 I discovered a bug with the newly-added blackfeather cloak in that two players in PVP could bounce rockets off of each other infinitely. After stacking enough projectiles at the same time, the game code broke and became unresponsive (requiring forcibly closing D3 through the task manager). I had posted a funny (or at least I thought it was funny), video showing how to trigger the glitch since I thought it was mostly harmless. What I didn’t think of is that some pairs of players might have used this glitch to ruin other player’s games (by essentially crashing the server).

A few days after posting this video, I was forum-banned for a week, but I appealed it and apologized and I was restored access to forum-posting privileges after a day or so. Also, this bug was patched in the March 11, 2014 hotfix.

So to make a long story short, is there a way to expunge past forum crimes? Or do mistakes haunt us forever!?

Maybe WyomingMyst knows, given he has dealt with this software for more than a year, but from what I have seen, there is no clear answer from Blizz.

I know that people who were perma banned on the old forums stayed banned.

Were the account infractions recorded in a way that the new forum software can see them and therefore use them in calculating trust levels? The system is automated based on set actions and I can’t see how they would get the new software to see the old forum records.

I am going to wager …no. But that is a guess.

I am curious to see an official answer.

I was able to (temporarily, as I wasn’t interested in the ungodly grind to maintain it) gain access to TL3 on the WoW fora earlier this year. On the old fora I was temp banned for a post that was reported as “hate speech”, but it turned out that the person likely had a grudge against me for some reason because nothing I said was hate speech and after a review the ban was overturned (a day late and a dollar short, seeing as the ban was 24 hours and the review took 72 hours).

So yes, old infractions that are not permanent bans don’t appear to transfer over. Permanent bans do, as do any infractions on the new forum software.

For reference, the “hate speech” turned out to be whoever reported the post not liking the words “chocolate craisins”, which was overturned quite easily when I showed that those are in fact real snacks and I was eating them. They’re made by Ocean Spray.

Sorry if i ask, i didn’t find how to check my trust level, and also, are we notified somehow when we “level up” or we have to manually check?
Thanks

I just found, don’t worry answering anymore

Thank you for the help!

I don’t get it. I see the animated gif, but not the caption. :confounded:

I think the caption is used in place if the gif does not load.

Some browsers, or due to occasional connectivity issues that will cause gif not to load completely or even at all.

Okay. Thanks for the explanation.

I remember some old BBCode that used what was called an “acronym” tag. When used in the proper syntax the image would be embedded and when you moused-over it your “caption” would pop up. Kind of like a tool tip. (It could also be used on text, not just images).

Then I thought it might superimpose a caption just over, right under or even in a corner of the image. When I didn’t see any of the above, I was confused.

Ooh, that’s a neat feature.

I’m basing my suspicion based on the old html format in embedding images. It has a specific code that allows you to enter a caption in place of the image to describe what it is - this was widely practiced on most websites or pages back in the days of 56Kbps internet speeds.

When you posted your previous comments, I looked at the syntax again. The second syntax (the second line) does include “alt=” in it. Which I interpret as “alternate”. So, your explanation made sense to me. :+1:

Use this for an actual caption:

<img src="URLHere" alt="FallbackTextHere" title="SnarkyTextHere">

That’ll give you the mouseover text you’re looking for.

See:

Study Hard Leah!

That image now has both fallback text (the alt argument) and the mouseover text (the title argument).

Edit: Forgot the alt argument in my original post. Oops. It’s there now. Brain…so…fried…

Ah yes, the title syntax is something new (to me anyways), but thanks TheTias! Always something new to learn with these forum BB codes.

Thank you!

I don’t know if I’ll ever use it. I was just curious to the purpose of “caption” since I couldn’t tell any difference from just posting the image.

Typically, a caption is a title or description that appears just above or below an image. Thanks for clarifying.

Here’s one I found for doing the same thing with text:

<abbr title="Good Luck, Have Fun!">GL, HF!</abbr>

Which produces this: GL, HF!

I knew I had seen this before. It’s under “Text Formatting” → “Abbreviated Text” in this thread on the Europe Forums:

The old “acronym” BBCode I was thinking of earlier was something like:

[acronym="Good Luck, Have Fun!"]GL, HF![/acronym]

And it worked for text and images. But, it doesn’t work anymore.

I am kinda bummed all the old HC posts are gone. There were some great ones from years back that were still relevant. One of my faves was “the man (or woman) behind the machine” where most of the old HC players had pics of themselves. I know most of us are gone or mostly gone now, but it was still a fun thread.

This one ?

The posts are still there… still in Diablo 3 Forums. Pickup those you want to keep and copy-paste them to the new forum… before they are gone for good.

How do you underline text? “<u></u>_” no working for TL-1 grasshoppa
