New Forum Guide - Syntax & Features

Hi insidious :

Most of the time, it does so for me…

Other times, there will be a slider on the right-hand side with a “Back” marker; if you click on the marker, it will bring you to the last post you read.

And, on rare occasions… the conversation opens at the first post and there is no Back marker… I then just drag the slider down towards the bottom until I recognize something I’ve read before. It doesn’t seem to happen too often in my case, however.

Using your screenshot as an example, also note that you can:

  1. Click the date at the very top of the slider to jump to the OP.
  2. And you can click on the date at the very bottom of the slider to jump to the last post in the thread.

I’m a little curious too.

Supposedly a bunch of people with ~5,000 posts or whatever got TL3.

I’m assuming they’ve had to alter them from 20,000 since our forums just aren’t that active. Most of the class section forums are dead besides the Barbarian one.

In the 60 days the new forums have been active, the US (English) forums have had 2500 topics (threads) and 27,900 posts. That’s an average of around 42 threads and 465 posts a day.

The original TL3 requirement was based on 50 days activity within a 100 day rolling window and required 500 threads / 20,000 posts to be read every rolling 100 days. That’s an average of 5 threads / 200 posts a day. So, the US (English) forums have more than enough activity to satisfy the original requirements, even though the requirements appear to have been lowered.

This may be a silly question, but even though I think I might be T2 which I would be content with, I cannot seem to post links? I actually feel like a luddite (except I like technology)… :expressionless:

There have been several times when some has asked something and I would have like to post a screenshot due to profiles being offline to assist. or give them a link to find what they are looking for. As I said I’d be happy knowing how far away from T2 I am or if I am already and I am technological putz :joy:

Not far away at all. You are currently Trust Level 2.

Yours can be found here: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d3/u/Bassdude-1227.json

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d3/groups/trust_level_2?desc=true&order=added_at
…shows you got Trust Level 2 on August 13th.

Another way to view your Trust Level is to use the Web application written by Pachimari, a MVP on Europe. You can access it here: https://bit.ly/trustlevel.

As far as posting clickable links and/or pictures… that is still reserved to TL3s. In the meantime, you can transform your links to preformatted text so that the people you are helping can copy/paste the link directly into their browser. To post a link:

  • copy-paste the link into your post as you would normally,
  • highlight the entire link, and
  • click the </> button in the formatting bar at the top of the Reply window. Your link will be surrounded by grave accents on the Reply window, and will display like this : https://bit.ly/trustlevel. The link will not be clickable but, at least, it shows up correctly.

Thanks Perusoe

Thanks Meteorblade

Thanks Boubou

  • Appreciated - to each of you.

But it still says I cannot include links in my posts which is why I questioned it.

Yes… you need to be Trust Level 3 to include links… see New Forum Guide - Syntax & Features

TL 2s can “Create links and video embeds to trusted websites like Blizzard websites, YouTube, or Twitch”

Ah - thanks - that is quite a way away yet. I am about to get busy again. Bummer.
I am content with level 2 - no complaints  Thanks people.

I suppose that… if we asked Nevalistis really, really, really nicely… Blizzard could reconsider the requirements for posting clickable links and/or pictures. Or, at the very least, add Imgur to the whitelist so we can post Imgur pictures…

Boubou, I appreciate the suggestion, but I actually think the way it is structured is good. It means people have to be active participants, basically be solid contributors more in a positive way (likes etcetera) and it limits the trolling as we have all seen.

I am patient. Sheesh I have been playing this game since Diablo 1 on floppy disk.
Outside of the obvious that I am no spring chicken, it says I must be patient (probably loyal as well). Cheers

EDIT: I am content to ‘earn’ my right to post links and piccies

You can posts links. Just not clickable links.

Boubou gave you instructions how (above):

Thank you, Tried it with success.

Heh. Apparently Blizzard’s implementation of Discourse is partially insecure. Main code hosted by Blizzard is processed via TLS, but images and videos that are embedded into posts are not. Pretty big security hole there…

Not only that, after looking at my own link posted above, anyone can see what country I live in and other details. Anyone that wanted nobody to know where they lived would probably be upset.

Technically, anyone can do this with any user. It’s not huge, but it’s not a great thing either. At least if people want their privacy maintained, it does not include their name I suppose. :expressionless:

EDIT for example:
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d3/u/TheTias-1192.json

Only you can see that info. I can’t see your country of origin there. That’s stored in the auth token and is only viewable to Blizzard and yourself. That part I’m not really worried about.

It’s been a while since I have been part of such a young forum. It’s nice to see things develop. It will be nice not to be part of a forum with over 5 million, members.

Can anyone confirm if the restrictions on making more than one reply on one’s own post lift when you reach TL3? I’m currently working on a WD compendium/new player guide as I’ve noticed there isn’t one, but I’m going to hit an early roadblock if I can’t make more than one reply to the master post without waiting for a second commenter - it’s going to turn into a massive, difficult to read wall of text otherwise :sob:
