Are any of them actually good? I’m collecting a few, but I’m like a tornado with my Legacy of Dreams gem and all of my legendaries. I equipped the Pestilence set and my Bone Spears were barely tickling the mobs on T9.
Bone spear with the MotBC set is decent.
Rathma AotD is the strongest set build. You can play it as physical or poison, depending on preference/available gear.
LoD mages and poison scythe are the only other contenders.
I’m using LoD and the skele mage shoulders with the secondary boost scythe atm.
Rathma AotD is great for pushing but is very squishy and is also less suitable for T16 speeds.
MotBC Bone Spear used to be super powerful but was overnerfed. It needed a nerf but it recieved too much of it. It’s not so massively powerful anymore but GR100+ should still be easy. It’s also quite tanky as well.
Inarius, Pestilence and Trag’Oul are all borderline useless at the moment.
Blizzard was in talks with Netflix about a series, that seems to have entered limbo though.
Edit/ seems this ended up in the wrong thread.
Lord Fluffy - AKA MOST FUN SPEED BUILD ~~Now so under powered
All the sets are hmmm problematic?
-Pestilance (holds a dear place OG) very fun if you are just trying to do TX–>and after you get better gear you can get more damage using Captain’s set, but the that iteration was most fun…
-Trag: ZERO power…literally compared to any other, super squish…Collect it just in case they buff it?
-Inarus: Has Power…but both of the build - Grim Scythe, and Corpse Explosion - are much tankier and powerful using LOD (as in all Ancient with good rolls)
-MotBC: decent…compared to the way they 'nerfed" inna/firebird…wow this set got hit by a train, then a sledge hammer, then stomped on in terms of power. Nerfed the 6 set damage 10k-6, got rid of triple damage for sims. So…fun, but not competitive.
-Rathma: Most powerful now…but weird in my oppinion, it was suppose to be a “minion” redesign…and somehow they just added Army of the dead nuke (and that is the one skill that does damage)…so powerful…but clucky/weird.
You can checkout sites like maxroll.gg, Hope the next patch has a piece of pie for the Necro
Pesti should not be that weak if you have the right items.
-Nyrs+Corpse wisper
!!All necro need krybin ring to do damage
Pestilance as Season Start…Fluffy, not OP, but shouldnt be a struggle if you got all the supporting items
Pesti needs to work whit out Land of the Dead, and to be an over all better set, it needs a power, or have a lagandary, that passively generates corpes. No corpses, you can’t kill anything, can’t have more corpses, you can quit your run.
There’s Morbidung Gauntlets (or what’s it’s name) but you have better BiS items than that to consider.
Weird that for me the original reason to get the expansion was the necro playing lazy scythe with the Mirinae gem untill they butchered that for being too strong…
They made the paid-for DLC hero class initially really strong to encourage sales.
Then, after they’d sold enough copies, they could nerf it.
It’s entirely unsurprising in terms of marketing.
Everyone has been nerfed but the Necro has practically been at a standstill it seems. There is no good reason at all for it to have so many sets with such drastically outdated damage values.
The necro has some fundamental design decisions that really hold it back not only in relation to other classes in D3 but in comparison to Necros in other Diablo games.

The 2 minute cooldowns in an ACTION RPG. In typical Blizzard fashion they go out of their way to design items to address the cooldown instead of just changing the actual cooldown values.

Pets not doing any damage. 2 pet classes with pets that don’t do meaningful damage is absurd. It’s annoying on the Witch Doctor, but it’s crippling to the Necro. The class is based around generating corpses but too often lacks the tools to do so, counter to how the class functions in other Diablo games. So it’s back to the 2 minute long cooldowns again because the class is designed around a resource it has trouble otherwise obtaining.
