Which Necro build is the most powerful now?
I just bought the Necro Pack , coming back after a 3 year hiatus.

Legacy of dreams build has a few options. Too bad the new set is not as strong as most of the new sets out there. Big fan of necro myself. But started a DH instead.

The two best (or at least most popular), are the Grim Scythe and Corpse Explosion builds using LoD.
As far as I’m aware, none of the Necro sets compare to these LoD builds, including the new Masquerade of the Burning Carnival set. Though, it’s still new so you never know what crazy synergies people will find.
GS vs CE, which is better?
I think both are pretty good tbh. Try both before you commit to min/max’ing your items. They use a lot of similar gear so you have that freedom until you get to the higher tiers.
I prefer GS, but only because I’m not a fan of builds that revolve around LotD which is a massive 2min cooldown skill that only lasts 10 secs, giving you unlimited corpses for it’s duration (In case you’re unaware how it fits, seeing your new to Necro). CE, obviously, needs this to shine.
More of a matter of preference, I guess. 
New set ain’t that bad but it’s definitely lacking for pushing high end damage. I’ve cleared 110 GR with Bone Spear but 111 seems impossible. Farming for either LoD poison scythe/corpse explosion now. It’s missing like a legendary off-hand or bracer that unlock Teeth rune on Bone Spear + more % multiplier. You’re stuck playing with Blighted Marrow for the damage with a lackluster clearing potential cause its all narrowed down in a line.
Corpse Explosion is pretty fun.
I try a new class each season and this season I am trying the Necro.
Corpse explosion with the golem that breaks apart into 8 corpses is really powerful. I can’t figure out the whole land of the dead thing though. Seems it should be powerful, but I am not sure how I would use it. And I can’t seem to find really good passives either. Is that a big complaint from necros? Maybe I just don’t understand them well enough to get the full benefits.
Cannot say which is stronger between the two but I prefer the scythe cause I don’t need cooldown reduction on my gear so it should be slightly easier to find good items. It has also consistent damage, not only when land of the dead is up. I think the power difference is minimal (1-2 rifts).

CE = gather mobs and Do CE and wait for cool down and repeat
GS = Scythe all the way with left click for eternity

Finally figured out Land of the Dead. I didn’t realize you didn’t need corpses to use corpse explosion while it is on. It eats the bosses pretty quickly, especially the rift guardian. I am still at low GRs though, so I am sure that changes.
I am trying crimson’s with Inarius now and it seems to be working ok. Not sure how high my LoD has to be in order to make the switch though, but I am thinking it has to be at least 30 or 40.
I made a LoD Mages build, just like old Rathma Mages and have alot of fun with it.

the CE , is boring… you are sitting duck when “LAND” is on Cooldown.
I play with Necromancer short time. I try to play with only legendary items. I don’t have good equipment yet, but it looks good.

LOD mages ftw! The new buffed shoulder legendary is game changer. Now we can use the rune that gives our mages extra 2 seconds duration. I’m finally having fun playing necromancer.
“teleport” and Scythe all the way, feels like the D2 assassin
The new set plays nothing like every necro set before it. No long cooldown skills at all. Simulacrums that last forever and just throwing spears around. When your Essence gets low, swing Grim Scythe a few times and throw more spears. NumLock Voracious helps offset the cost of Bone Spear. Long hallway maps are great since the spears pierce and hit everything (and get stronger as they pierce).
I can’t speak to power, being casual player, but I’m having fun playing the new set. Want see how far I can push. But I expect from reports of comparisons that I’ll end on a ball bearing or a hunter for higher level. But, so far, so good! Maybe necro has been so low for so long, no one can believe
