I never understood why people get upset about “necro-ing”. The way I see it, if the information in the thread is still relevant, and could be of use to anyone that comes along to read it,what does it matter what the date is on the post? Could someone please explain to me the aversion most people, including some “Blues” have toward adding to older threads? I’m not trolling. I’m honestly curious. Thank you, to anyone that leaves a constructive reply, rather than flaming me for what may be a dumb question.
They have an issue when the Necro bump is to something that is no longer relevant, already posted a bunch of other times including current threads, or bumping for no reason.
Examples of things the Mods will shut down and that annoy posters:
-
Finding every thread about X issue and bumping it to flood the front page with the topic. Often these are old threads, scattered with a few new ones. That is both necro bumping AND spamming.
-
Finding a post about X from long ago, and bumping it when they are current threads on the topic. People don’t like to see old threads where the posters who were discussing it are long gone. If you want current convo about a topic, use a current thread.
-
Poster necro bumps a heated debate topic that has died down, just to stir up nonsense on the forums. Concern trolling as it were.
-
Poster just thinks bumping old threads with non-constructive replies is fun. This includes things like “bump”, random un related text, or rude comments.

Thread is actually very out of date and the information and discussion in it is no longer valid. This is especially true on the Bug or Tech Support forums. For example, a DC issue today, is not going to be related to the great Cox cable Sunday night outage years ago. Same symptom, different causes. For the game, that also means threads discussing builds or mechanics may be out of date because the game has patched and those things changed.
Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it.
